Keyboard Keycaps / Re: Suggestion for a ISO keyboard with Teal color
« Last post by G on Fri, 29 March 2024, 01:07:47 »
If you can pick up a decent Peacock Blue Lynn Montage around $200-250 (perhaps $300-350 if it looks great in pics) I would consider that a fair deal. I wouldn't pay more since the qc isn't the absolute greatest, the anodization can have splashing/banding on the bottom, top/bottom mismatch and so on. Mine is cerakoted and while the finish looks fine, the board has a few machining dings, one of which is visible inspecting from the side as well as a bit of acne (pitting) on the back :'( I'll excuse it for the time being since the price I paid for mine was good for a 3 Kg TKL despite the flaws making it a C-Stock, or B-stock if I'm being extra generous.
Matrix has a much nicer Peacock finish, but good luck finding a 1.2 under $700, especially with that finish.
The Zoom65 also has a teal color, but it seems a lot different than the finish you mention on the Iron.
A Suave Blue KFE is also something to consider.

I think Rhienfo has the right idea, get an affordable board and cerakote it teal if you can't find any teal boards you like within your price range.

Scratch all that, just saw you posted on the Cycle8 which also has a Peacock finish, it might just blow everything else out the water in terms of price/quality ratio, especially if you value finishing quality.

There should be more 80%s with a numpad instead of the nav cluster and arrow keys. You would get access to all the keys on a full size with the press of NumLock.
Kohaku is a mid board, pretty weight but that's about it to me... I also don't enjoy 65% layouts so I guess that's probably part of the cause as well
Have to agree, never got all the hype around it. The Jaguar is a far more striking board from the same designer yet seems to garner less attention. All due respect, the Kohaku is borderline uninspired to me. From an aesthetics POV, even the simplest seamed two-piece wedge design seems more appealing. The back is cool and all, but that's about it.

Keyboards / Re: Holee Mod & Tape Mod to a HyperX Alloy FPS Pro

No wonder. In a standard gaming board's low profile assembly, anything between the pcb and lower case isn't going to impact sound much with there being so little empty space, the bottom basically wraps around. You're basically just hearing the switches, metal switchplate and keycaps. The other keyboard is roomier, thus there is some echoing in the bottom case to be dampened. Guess you don't really need to put much consideration into this type of mod though, it's quick and easily reversible. I think the M71 sounded a bit better before tape, it constricts it too much, but it's all a matter of taste.

Some updates!
Adjusted enter novelties to use the blue to purple gradient instead of just the dark blue and yellow

Currently waiting for Pantone plastic chips before moving onto the next round of samples (I ordered them late February and only 3/7 have arrived)

Added a fun matching illustration! Not sure what I'll do with this illustration. I might consider adding it as a print or sticker?

Why is the special edition twice the price of the "regular" one, is it just the PVD?

Also this engraving:

(Attachment Link)

Is hilarious and feels completely antithetical to the rest of the design: Downbeat hand-drawn craft aesthetics vs. Functional, sci-fi industrial

We have discussed with the studio, and they can remove this engraving during GB.
It would also great if the little gold badge that says "Winter is coming" on the back of the Winter edition can be either flipped around to hide the text or also have it removed, because I feel like it isn't very "universal" since Winter has already passed.

It might be a bit tricky to hide the screw, and changing the structure of the main part is quite a task in software (because of the organic look). But honestly, it's a fantastic idea; I wish we had heard this earlier.

Nice job, acoustics greatly improved!
Desoldering these gaming boards can be a real pain, took ages to harvest the reds from my Corsair... Wonder what the point of the tape on the back of the pcb is in this case? I thought it was for reducing resonance in large, open boards. Does it impact the sound of the pcb itself making it sound "thicker"? I don't know if you would even be able to hear that through the top plate...

In this case, the tape mod is not appreciated. I think it is because of the top mounting of the PCB with the board.
I've done it on other boards and it sounds more poppy in conjunction with the PE foam mod.
On this keyboard it is more noticeable.

That is one very low front height :p Gaudy and pretentious, sure, but at least it isn't another gasket 65 with top-right blocker ;D
Unsure if this is going to appeal to the gh crowd, but I do think you'll be able to find SOMEONE who likes it, maybe try Reddit.

GLWB!

Wild.

I love it.

Not just another plain rectangle.

Very intricate! Will be interesting to see more as real prototypes show up :O

Waiter! One of everything please! :p I love it I need it I love it

I could be in an earthquake and Aftershock and feel nothing for these dampeners... Lol

Yeah like it, it's original and a massive show piece

Interesting mounting system and interesting designs, love that Nooir is trying new stuff with this and with the K1

my very first comment since joining geekhack. my jaw dropped when i saw this. even my husband is excited about it (he doesn't use computers) because he loves the engineering. innovative designs in this space are why i am here!

Color me impressed. This is a really really cool design. If I had six hundo (+switches and caps) to burn I'd be in.

Really really love seeing new design languages coming into this hobby. Just awesome. Bravo.

Can't wait to see the eye-watering price...

Finally, an extremely interesting design that’s different from what’s released on the market. I’m in for this one!

Thank you, all of you. It's wonderful to see that you like our design, and it makes the design work much more enjoyable ;D

New Members / Re: keyboard spreadsheets... anyone else?
« Last post by G on Thu, 28 March 2024, 22:39:38 »
I have a couple keyboard-related text files: boards I would like to own someday, ideas I try (and fail) to make. In any case, not nearly enough to warrant entire spreadsheets, that's HARDCORE! I would probably be deeper into vintage boards, if I were interested in anything tactile... MX is good enough for linear. Never really understood the MX disdain some have for anything but clickies and more pronounced tactiles, might just be too young to "get it" :p Not super close to anyone who's into keyboards, guess your generosity facilitates that, but I don't get to know many people who are too into computer peripherals (or really tech stuff in general) to really care for mechs at all. Gifted a mech to a close friend once, but never talked to any "IRLs" about keyboard stuff beyond surface level stuff like where they might be able to find cheap colorful keycaps like the ones they see on YouTube or whatnot, or which gaming keyboard they should get.
Meetups and the internet are where it's at.
