Maybe you can joing "forces" (hehe) with Matt3o and his X-Wing inspired set: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=52512.0

Or have shared novelties and make one set an "extension" of the other? Or keep them separate if the colourways can't match up, I'm sure true diehard Star Wars fans wouldn't mind having more keycap options.

<just had to add that I prefer the colourway on this set to X-Wing, so if they do merge, I'd like this to become the "base">

I had a quick chat with him already but I think we'll probably just continue with our own things for now.  I hope he does get that out eventually.

How about an A-Wing novelty cap?

I tried out other ships, but the issue I was having was that they were hard to make out what it was.  Here was a Snowspeeder I had:

The X-Wing seemed to work out the best because of the shape.  The other thing is, I'm not sure if I could even get them printed.

BTW, if you want to match the red, yellow and/or grey to what they used on the helmets and props in the movies, you need to look no further than Humbrol enamel paints - because those are what they used. The range was limited back in the 1970's, so look at the lowest paint numbers first.

These are the keycaps you are looking for.

I'd really like too, I know it would probably be pointless to try and contact Disney but I may try for the hell of it.

Also, while I'm here, how about some Aurebesh alphas?

Would probably be insanely expensive but always an option.  Maybe some Aurebesh novelties would be better.

Just a quick test:

I have no idea where to begin with this type of stuff.  This was done with a java app written by someone from /r/keycapdesigners.  Saying that, it's not 100% accurate to my set but it gives a decent idea of what it'd look like.

Another version of the Aurebesh alphas as well:

Would these be possible with dyesub even if the rest of the set is doubleshot?
Title: Re: [IC] REBEL - A Star Wars inspired set
Post by: Oobly on Mon, 19 October 2015, 07:36:34
Yes, if you use DSA or DCS you could make dyesub alphas with the rest doubleshot, but the dyesubbed caps would be PBT and the rest ABS. If you go for dark legends everywhere you could dyesub the whole set. Leaves more options for legends / characters, but limits you to DCS, DSA and Cherry profiles. Also, for DCS and DSA you have to use the PBT colours from SP: http://deskthority.net/wiki/Signature_Plastics_PBT_colours

I think Gateron can mix up custom PBT colours, but they seem to be slow with this sort of thing, I think this is what Ivan did for the Black on Black PBT GB. If you go this route, you also have to get them dyesubbed by a third party (like IMSTO), whereas SP can do everything in-house.

Interesting.  I guess the first thing I should do is figure out the profile.  I was leaning towards DSA or R3 SA mainly for personal preference.  Then I'll go from there.  Thank you.

Anyone have other thoughts on profile or should I get some type of poll set up?

If you do want a poll, just PM a mod to set it up.  :thumb:  And in case you aren't familiar, you can see which mods are online by going to the bottom of the homepage and seeing which usernames are blue/purple.  :)

I believe he was referring to the dark legend version of the "Aurebesh" alphas being dyesubbed and the "rest" (modifiers, etc) doubleshot. It would be quite expensive to make the alphas doubleshot since they'd have to cut legend molds for all the letters.

Correct.  I'm not going to worry about those for now.  I'm going to concentrate on the profile and getting the initial sets dialed in first.  Then I want to find someone to do some 3d renders and go from there with any additional add ons.

Patience my young keyboarder, soon your time shall come.

I updated OP with some new graphics and reorganized some things.  Also shifting gears ever so slightly.  My original ideas were based mostly off Luke Skywalkers uniform.  I've decided to just design it based around Rebel Alliance pilot uniforms in general to open up more possibilities.

Tweaked KLE renders and some new stuff coming later.

OP updated.  Check 'worklog' in 2nd post for changes if interested.

A lot of orange keycaps out there lately. First Skidata+, then JTK, and now possibly this and the orange mods in Green Screen.

This is not a bad thing at all.

I agree.  That's one reason I'm playing with some other options as I know Carbon had an orange alpha option, then the 2 you mentions.  I'm trying to keep it looking like other sets, while still sticking to the theme as much as possible.  I didn't cross check to see if any of these colorways had similarities, so hopefully they don't lol.

And on second glance, I could probably do the first 2 kits combined in to 1 set by offering an alternate alpha option if there was interest.

Nice keyset design! Any chance of being sued by whoever that owns the rights to SW?

Otherwise, the set looks good, if there are no legal issues. ^-^

The only way would be the novelties with the xwing and rebel logo, neither of which will probably make it unfortunately.

Thanks to everyone else that checked it out and left feedback.  New renders will be up soon.

I've updated the OP with a bunch of updates that I've been working on.  Also, after a quick email with Melissa from SP and a message to CQ_Cumbers, I will be adding a couple orange and yellow polycarb keycaps to represent the helmet visors.  I'm not exactly sure what keys yet, but I tossed a couple in the novelties kit for now.

I'm really liking the new colorway, not so much in-your-face with orange.  Let me know what everyone thinks.  :thumb:

Thanks to everyone that has showed interest, commented, left feedback or messaged me so far!

Oh and 1 other thing.. I hope to have some info back soon regarding the X-wing and Rebel logo novelties.

Thanks to everyone that has showed interest, commented, left feedback or messaged me so far!

Oh and 1 other thing.. I hope to have some info back soon regarding the X-wing and Rebel logo novelties.

Really diggin it - and love the polycarb visor idea too. I'd buy this is pretty much any profile but DSA personally :D

Personally, I'd like to do SA.. most likely SA R3, if anything to give it more of a 'retro' feel.

I saw a custom key in keypuller with the Lambda logo made by Signature Plastics, and I was wondering if Valve agreed to it. Unlikely that Disney would let you use Star Wars related images, but I'm curious how it worked for the Lambda key.

I think it's a new thing they are doing.  They printed the Nuka Cola dsa caps for 00zeRO and on his planned SA run they wanted permission to use it.  I haven't asked SP myself so he would know their reasoning.

Just a note about the polycarbonate keys. In 2.25u or 2.75u sizes the inserts (legend support grid / first shot) are a different size to the key, so they may not look quite as nice in polycarbonate as the 1u. Have a look at the underside of some SA profile Enter and Shift keys to see what I mean:

[attach=1]

2u Row 1 Backspace, 2.25u Row 3 Enter, 2.75u Row 3 Shift.

Note how the 2.25u has gaps either side of the support and the 2.75u has it shifted over to the right (left side when viewed from the top of the cap). I'm not yet sure what the Row 4 version support looks like, but should have that info soon.

Would that affect a blank cap as well, or just if the cap had a doubleshot legend?

Will there be an international kit?

I'm going to concentrate on getting the initial kits nailed down and enough interest going first.  If there's demand for it as well as ergodox kits and other layouts, of course they will be implemented.

Yes, unfortunately it affects both since they use the same final mold which includes the space for the first shot insert. I think 2.25u would look pretty good, actually, since it's symmetrical, but 2.75u may look a bit odd. Anyhow, was just a heads up about the structures.

Set design is looking very good, by the way. I like it a lot.

I agree. Really, really like the Aurebesh, but not sure how feasible it is. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too bad if it's dye subbed DSA, but getting SA legends cut for all of them may be too expensive. Not sure what that runs. Maybe having them front printed like the PETSCII characters on Retro would be a possibility.

They would almost have to be dye sub.  Custom legends would be astronomical. Lol

Got some PC colour chips in yesterday, I'll try to get a good pic of the yellow and orange clear ones for you. They're very close to the LEGO colours (although the orange is pehaps a hair lighter) in case that helps you decide.

I like the idea of front pad printed Aurebesh, like the PETSCII from Retro SA. You don't have to limit it to alphas, either, you can do a full set of Aurebesh like Ivan did (although I believe one or two symbols are incorrect):

Thanks Oobly, that would be much appreciated.  I know the pilots had at least 2 variations of visors, yellow and orange.  Well, the orange is more of an amber color so I'll have to wait and see what that looks like.  The yellow looked like a decent match.

I guess I'll wait and do a poll on the aurebesh idea.  If enough people want it, I'll go from there on either the alpha's or a full set.  I wasn't really feeling some of the symbols in full aurebesh.  I do really like the look of the arrows in that set, though.

We'll see what happens.  I'm still not sure if that is a trademarked font or not.  I'm waiting to hear back.

Not positive that's going to be an issue.

So you might need to be careful but so long as you're not buying a commercial package of Auberesh fonts, it seems to be okay.  Given the number of freely available versions online, it seems like there are options to use while avoiding issues.  Worst case, you end up running it by an attorney as well.

Curious to see if they actually reply or not, though.

Here's a quick pic showing most of the Signature Plastics clear polycarbonate colours (there's also a sort of pinky red / rose clear colour which isn't in the pic) along with the similar LEGO colours for reference. I couldn't get enough light on the scene so it's taken with the built-in flash, but it's pretty accurate to how they look in real life. The yellow is a very little darker than the LEGO one, but the orange is almost exact.

So some bad news and good news..

Bad news:  I've been attempting to contact Lucas/Disney about licensing some images and that's been darn near hopeless.  I will be making another attempt, but it's been close to 2 months since their last reply.  Regardless, I'm moving forward with or without them, which brings me to..

Good news:  After taking a bit of time to sit back and think, I've gone back to my initial colorway with a bit of a change.  I've switched to SP's 'ON' from 'OAS' for the orange, which is a deeper more redish orange and I've ditched the gray for a white/ slightly off white color.  These decisions were based off an image of Poe Dameron from Episode VII here (http://i.imgur.com/om8ozrI.png?1).  I plan on ordering some chips from SP to be sure, but personally I haven't been happier with the way the set looks so far.  I feel it really captures the theme I was going for.

Thanks to everyone that's been following along and providing feedback.  :thumb:

That orange cap / white alpha looks awesome.  That alone makes it look fantastic.

For Aurebesh (sp?), text can't be protected.  Of course, this is Disney we're talking about.  Personally, I'm not overly concerned about that as I'd want the standard legends but I'm sure a lot of others would love that font.  If possibly you might try to find a legal friend that can chime in on the font bit but given the availability of them on the internet combined with the US copyright office stating explicitly that they're uncopyrightable, there's a fair chance it's okay.  Still, I'm sure you'd rather a strong level of certainty on this.

As far as I'm aware typefaces can't be copyrighted in the United States at least, elsewhere I'm not entirely sure.  There has also been at least one other set done by Ivan that had the Aurebesh text on it.  Oobly posted that one in this thread, iirc.

Would there be a reversed option? So Orange mods and White alphas?

I thought about breaking alphas and mods in to 2 separate sets each, with white and orange being offered for both, I was just worried about MOQ.  If this set somehow draws a boat load of interest and that becomes a commonly requested thing, I will do that.

Looks like there's two sets working up here.  I see some orange cap / white legend fans and white cap / orange legend fans.  Not a bad place to be, really.  There's always the concern of MoQ with regard to running multiple options like that but I recall at least one or two sets doing something like that (didn't Penumbra offer two separate alpha options or am I not remembering that correctly?)

I haven't paid much attention to the Carbon set but it's good to know two sets have done that thus far.  I thought Penumbra had done it so I'm at least sane on that piece ;)

I tried that last night actually and I think it might be better to just do the Orange alphas but have a choice of either white/black or black/white mods as I think that keeps with the theme quite well.

Out of curiosity, what about flipping the modifier colors?  When I was playing around with an orange set, I recall several shades of gray for the caps looking pretty good.

I tried that last night actually and I think it might be better to just do the Orange alphas but have a choice of either white/black or black/white mods as I think that keeps with the theme quite well.

I'd be on this if it were SA or GMK.

Hmmm, you thinking of NN caps with WA legends?  That could work given the gloves/boots.  I was thinking more the gray as seen on the box along with the straps.  That could work as well.

Yup.  Something like this (http://i.imgur.com/njiU9Pm.png).  My v1 I had some black blanks for the mods, check that here (http://i.imgur.com/TBmIkfD.jpg).  Either way, I'd like to incorporate a bit more black somehow.  Be it shift/enter keys, spacebars something like that.

I used NN on everything up until this version when after looking over some reference pics I tried out GB.  GB works good for the chestbox kit but boots/gloves additions would certainly have to be NN.  I really just need to order some chips from SP and stop trying to guess.  :))

There's going to be an added cost associated with it.  You can read up on that in the Yuri IC thread.

I intend on making them happen.  How?  I'm not sure.  To be doubleshot, that's about $1400.  Now IF 100 sets sold, that's only $14 each added on [I think, I still need to figure out what's involved with custom molds].  They could be pad printed, but I don't know if that's possible with the rest of the set being doubleshot.  I'll work on that when I get the base of the set near finished.

Also @Niomosy, I was messing around a bit earlier and was thinking about doing something like this:

I think that would be a decent way to incorporate orange, gray, black and white options.  I would probably add in at least a 7u spacebar as well if I don't just do a seperate 'Bars' pack.

I have the SA Retro set with front printed PETSCII characters and they turned out great. That may be a less expensive option to explore. Doubleshot Aurebesh would be ideal, however, and I'm definitely in for that. I'm not sure how much of a pain it is to run it through Massdrop, but I suspect if you did it through them there would be enough orders to spread the legend cost around quite a bit.

I would honestly prefer the set to be doubleshot as well.  We'll see what happens.  Massdrop or PMK will probably be the goal.  I simply don't have the time or experience for a self ran gb, plus whatever is going on with the SA prices currently.

To get the Aurebesh set doubleshot, which is the ultimate goal, it's around $1400 in custom legends.  I would guess about $40ish per set with 100 sets sold.  I will find out for sure what kind of price it would be to see if it would make sense.  As to a drop/cost, no idea right now.  SP is booked in to June with SA sets.

Alright, so I'm trying to get the base details of the set finished up.  Would I be better off running a set like this?

This way would include some of the more common alternate layout keys.  I figured that would be better since I'm doing 2 different colored mods.  I'm trying to keep the number of kits down, but if I would be better off running a full set of alternate layout keys in each mod color rather than together like this, then I will.  I would also offer a smaller set of oddball keys with mac options and whatnot just to cover whatever else.

Oh and I had an idea to make the Rebel logo [or the X-wing key] possible as well.  A small pack of relegendables!  This isn't perfect, but I think it would still work out great.  The only thing is, would I have to offer just one color, or could I do a pack of a few colors?

I'm also working on some alternate modifiers and novelties that I'll be posting up soon™.

With 30ish novelties/new molds needed to make this a doubleshot set (you couldnt make this dye sub with the current colors) you are looking at about $1,500 just in mods for this set. That will significantly raise the price of the sets and make this one of the most expensive SA sets ever. Just something to consider.

That plus the SA pricing hikes.  This one with the Aurebesh and Yuri are looking to be two of the higher-priced sets because of all the added costs.  Hopefully both can round up some good followings to help balance that out.

They were looking to do a fundraiser novelty set for the font, which I think is a bit of a stretch in terms of feasibility.

Yeah but logistics for that are a nightmare. Either way the first set to run with it is going to be astronomically expensive.

I got some pricing information from Melissa regarding the Aurebesh alphas:

Doubleshot
25 sets                   $82.08 per set
50 sets                   $53.00 per set
100 sets                 $38.46 per set

Pad Printed
25 sets                   $37.21 per set
50 sets                   $32.47 per set
100 sets                 $30.11 per set

As long as we could hit the 50+ mark for doubleshot, I really don't think that price is bad considering it's 28 custom legends.  I'm waiting to hear back if that is the set price, or if they would be cheaper yet if the set was run through MD.

That pricing isn't too bad for the Aurebesh fans, it seems.  Should be a nice option.

Let me know what you want for a planck and I'll put a set together.

I got some pricing information from Melissa regarding the Aurebesh alphas:

Doubleshot
25 sets                   $82.08 per set
50 sets                   $53.00 per set
100 sets                 $38.46 per set

Pad Printed
25 sets                   $37.21 per set
50 sets                   $32.47 per set
100 sets                 $30.11 per set

As long as we could hit the 50+ mark for doubleshot, I really don't think that price is bad considering it's 28 custom legends.  I'm waiting to hear back if that is the set price, or if they would be cheaper yet if the set was run through MD.

definitely worth it for doubleshots. this is great news

I like the direction I am curious what it would look like with the black number key style you have in base set around the edges maybe even in blanks with the real symbol top left and right over white with a white space we should also include two 1 u of choosen color for the space since that is also a popular layout, 😀 another thought is maybe we can include standard 1u punctuation with Aurebesh or as a side option so we don't for people to have to purchase base set for those 4 or 5 keys.  maybe even Aurebesh punctuation if it doesn't add to much to the cost.

That's a good point.  I added standard punctuation in to the kit.  I'm not going to add anymore to the aurebesh kit as that will add another $200+.

Like I said, I'm not familiar with the planck/atomic layouts, so if you see something that I should add, I would be more than happy too!

I think I like your original layout better I a, gonna play around a bit in photoshop tomorrow to get so,e ideas typing from an iPad right it socks haha. The only thing I don't like on your original are the white raise and lower doesn't sit right with the gray for me haha. I'll let you know what I think once I get a better look. Great job BTW cool ideas and great quality work.

Okay so after messing around a bit with my horrible photoshop skills I kinda like white the best.

[attach=1]
[attach=2]
[attach=3]

What I was thinking we can do the mods in white the plank doesn't need any 2u keys aside from the space , but we should also offer 2 1u for the space since that is also a common config. I was thinking we could do either a white and orange space option or a white and blue .We can also do the ESC and DEL in blue .  Let me know what you think. Thanks for taking your time.  PULSE for plank is below for reference in terms of the keys we need, but I don't think we need to have the options for every row. I also made a list below for what i consider necessary. Also I am not against doing blank whites all around with blue options for the esc del and space

       Row 2
White 1u - ESC, TAB, DELETE, ENTER , BACKSPACE
Blue   1u - ESC, DELETE, BACKSPACE
       Row 3
          White 1U - TAB, " '
       Row 4
White 1u - UP, DOWN, LEFT , RIGHT, SHIFT , ENTER , CMD, CTRL, ALT, META, HYPER , SUPER, RAISE, LOWER , 2 BLANK
          White 2u - 1 BLANK
          blue   1u - 2 BLANK
          Blue   2u - 1 BLANK

lastly orange punctuation

Nope it is mirrored but not on purpose.  I think it is an issue with KEL but I am doing them all individually anyways to send to SP when the time comes so I didn't worry about it.

Nope.  Got anything you'd like to see added?  Just drop a message here.  Since you're interested in an ergo kit, would you rather see white or gray for mods or some combination of both?

So the KB for this build and custom Bro Bot arrive next week... We need to make this happen!

It will happen.  I just need to toss together some type of international kit and novelties.  Novelties I could use some suggestions on so toss those ideas my way!  Other than that, kits just need final color tweaks, mainly the ergo and planck kits and it's about done.  I plan on getting some 3D renders done as well then probably get it up for vote on MD/PMK.

* Forgot to mention: Planck kit was updated a few days ago and all the Aurebesh was fixed as well.

Just a question about white vs. grey keycaps:

Would we need to worry about discolouration more on the white caps? I can imagine that they look nicer new out of the box, but if they start yellowing early on, I feel like it'd make sense to just standardise on a more robust grey/orange/black set.

Are you saying you would want everything done?  I kept it to the alpha's and recently added the punctuation keys as I feel that is still reasonable cost wise.  Doing everything, it is $5k+ in just legend fee's.

Seriously here's what I want to just throw out there for you.  Mock up three different sets, your color schemes are fantastic.  Orange and white and charcoal are definitely the craze now and it will go excellent with a side project I am working on too geared towards the SW theme.  Run the GB through whatever channel you prefer.  Then when it ends, run the next theme maybe with legends, maybe not, completely up to you.  Own the GB!

Next run add a little extra, take a little out, people will go scrambling trading for the sets and options they wish they bought into and you'll have a better idea of what sold well and what needs to be set aside for another time.

Just some random thoughts tossed on my screen to see what sticks

Well, here was my initial 'goal' that I wasn't sure how I wanted to go about it.  Should I attempt each set separately, or run everything in one?  Individually would mean I could do a few set specific novelties and whatnot.  Altogether would be set up similar to how it is now except orange, white, red and gray alpha base kits with the white and gray modifier kits and all sets interchangeable.  Anyways:

I agree, and if this set does well enough and there's demand, I would be down for that.  If not, I have other ideas for a couple other possible sets.  These are really old and rough ideas that haven't been developed that well but:

Yep, but change the names on these sets.  After all, there is no resemblance expressed or implied with any keyset as these are simply colorways being applied to various keyboard types.  There can also be said that no novelty keys are suggestive of any theme or implied theme.  I would edit a few of the posts (#177).  Some more ideas can also be added for a super dark black with a dark gray modifier set to remind us of a darker era where untold huge star fleets could only exist

I'm not sure I'm totally following you.  You are basically saying to change the name and get rid of the Star Wars theme and have no Star Wars inspired novelties?  Why would I do that?

Well,
Yep, but change the names on these sets.

Well, if you look at the From the Vault thing that they were trying to do a few months back SP decided that since Nuka Cola was a Trademark of Bethesda's they would not make it, seeing as they don't want to get sued. Since Star Wars is quite a bit bigger than Fallout, I figure they would be more reluctant to make sets with things on it that obviously carry Disney's Trademark. But if you look at, for example, the Troubled Minds set, which obviously had an Eva on it, or the latest Granite set, which had a full Elven alphas set, if you design the legends and they are not explicitly from something (Just implicitly), then they will probably do it. So call the Han Solo set Smuggler or something.

Oh I'm aware of the copyright issues.  That's why I haven't posted up novelties yet.  I've contacted Disney a few times on the possibility of licensing a few images but haven't gotten anywhere in that regard.  Regardless, I do have some ideas that fit the theme but are different enough that shouldn't cause issue.  And yes, I obviously wouldn't call a set Han Solo, those were just listed to state what they drew inspiration from.

Its all good man and we are all 100% down on wanting this to run through, its just that we want to go to SP with this whole thing as a made up idea and that it in no way was played off any other known ideas.  Theres just an incredible amount of work that you have done already and that doesn't include your time spent putting all this together for us here on geekhack.  With much respect and appreciation for what you've done thus far, I'm just putting it out there that we would want to bring this to SP as a Pwner inspired keyset and that's all.  Any resemblance to anything fact or fictional is purely coincidence.

I get where you're coming from.  If it needs to be modified in order to run through SP, then so be it.  Aurebesh has been done before without any problems so I don't see any issue there.  Nothing was said when I got the price quotes for it as well.  SP has even printed the Rebel and Imperial logos before on a round of granite if I'm not mistaken.  I don't plan on using those so that doesn't matter.  We'll see what happens.  Like I said, I'm fine with modifying it if I have to in order for it to be done, I would just like to try and keep it as Rebel inspired as I can.

Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated.

Go all in dude, don't hold back on your ideas, just that they are Pwner's own work and inspired off colors and ideas he came up with for this buy.  I don't see you'll have any trouble as long as they come from your inspiration, doesn't matter that someone else guesses it came from something that it didn't.  Look at Troubled Minds, it was a well thought out and inspired kit that has novelties and a great colorway, same as Rebel.

One more thought, I'd put up the name of the keyset for the IC to give you some ideas.  Pick and choose.  Its just a name, heck I still get "confused" and I still call Troubled Minds the J***r set, just like we would call this one the R***l set. ;)

Most of my inspiration currently:

I'd like to have some 1u, but I'm not quite sure what to do yet.  Maybe I'll just have those relegendables so you can do the Rebel Alliance logo or something since they probably wont be printed.  The bottom row will be yellow polycarb caps to simulate the visor.  They are 1u and 1.75u with the intent to use them as 'windowed' caps [Caps Lock, Num Lock, Scroll Lock] with a couple extra in case someone wanted to do the WASD or arrow cluster or something else instead.

OP was updated earlier.  Trying to 'optimize' the kits to keep the prices good for everyone.  Gamer kit was also redone.  I took a suggested idea and did the Aurebesh WASD keys, works out perfect I think just in case the Aurebesh alpha's don't tip, at least we'll have another chance to incorporate some.

They'll be back.  I've just been tweaking kits a bit, I had a 2u in the planck kit but inadvertently removed it and forgot to put it back.

I just need to get an International kit done, finish up novelties and hopefully a 3D render will be done soon as well.  Speaking of novelties..

- Backspace is my favorite so far.  I thought about having each word on a 1.25/1.5u cap, not sure how cramped it would be all on a 2u cap.
- Red/yellow V, the tab and |\ wings and the enter key are based off helmet insignia.
- The star on print screen/pause is based off the Rogue Squadron logo.
- Scroll lock is a cut down version of the Rebel logo.  That one I'm unsure about.

Any other ideas, let me know.  None of them are final, just rough mockups currently.

The thing with the full logo is copyright.  If I remember correctly, Signature Plastics has printed both the Imperial and Rebel logos in an earlier round of Granite.  I don't know if they'd do it again without permission.  I've contacted the person in charge of that stuff at Disney a couple times, but I never got anywhere.

Would you also consider starting a poll over there on Massdrop to spur the interest for the set?

Also a post across the pond on reddit would definitely be a good thing too. You're attention to detail is spot on now time to kick it up full hype!

I wouldn't mind doing the legends.  Personally I think it looks more 'complete'.  The thing is, there are too many variations and I don't want to leave anyone out.

Way back when I started this set I wanted to do something like this.  This set was initially based heavily off Luke Skywalker and I had a Red 5 cap.  Since one of the novelties is an element from the Rogue Squadron, which coincidentally had 12 members that would be perfect to cover the F-row.  I could always change it to the R-row,  R1-R12?  I don't know how well that would be received.  If you have any ideas, drop a line.

Any chance for an ErgoDox kit like the one above, but either with all blanks, or aurebesh alphas + number row (or even better, aurebesh + remaining keys blank)? Ideally, I do not want anything QWERTY (or for that matter, anything "normal" alpha) on my keyboard. Symbols are fine...

I love the colors, the color layout, and the symbols, but captions on the keys are something I do not want. And if I must, something symbolic. Aurebesh is something I could live with, but would still prefer blanks in the same colour.

I love the colors, the color layout, and the symbols, but captions on the keys are something I do not want. And if I must, something symbolic. Aurebesh is something I could live with, but would still prefer blanks in the same colour.

Blanks will most likely be an option so you should be good.  Maybe a 5-10 pack of 1u orange blanks would be a good choice for that situation.

That brings up another issue that I didn't really think about.  If some people only want the Aurebesh kit, they would be forced to buy the standard alphas as well for the remaining keys.  The Aurebesh kit is on the fence of being pricey as is so I don't really want to add more keys to it.  Maybe some type of non-custom mono legend keys would fit in.  I'll have to think about what to do here, although it hasn't really been mentioned, so maybe it isn't as much of an issue as I think.

Aurebesh + ErgoDox kit + blanks for the rest? For those who do not want full blanks, or prefer Aurebesh. (I may be interested in such a setup... but would likely buy enough blanks for the whole keyboard, just in case I end up not liking Aurebesh in the end)

Yup.  That sounds like it would be your best way to go.  On PMK's store, 1u keys are $12 for a pack of 10.  So I'll probably have at least the orange 1u in a 10 pack as an option.

I had thought about this, but I'll be using this on an Ergodox, so I won't need the space/Fn/arrows , and I don't mind having Earth-based symbols on some of my keys, so I'll be using the stripe kit to get my numbers. Not a big issue for me, as I have a solution. Others might chime in now that you've pointed it out.

I'd be interested in having the aurebesh kit just as complete as the standard alphas, but I understand if that's not feasible. I'd be okay buying the stripe to get the rest of the keys needed.

When is this R3 SA set going into SP's molds?

I hope you're not waiting for the Second Star Wars Movie release, for these to be available?

I'm not sure, how much pull do you have with the people from MD?  :p

I am nearing the finish of most of the kits.  I was hoping to have an email off to SP by now and a poll up on MD but I have been insanely busy at work.  I'm thinking of dropping back to 1 color choice for the modifiers, having 2 is just making it necessary to make multiple kits of every child set.  We'll see once I get the poll set up.  If it's a landslide towards white or gray, I'll probably cut one.

Also, International kit was added to the OP.  There is probably quite a few mistakes as I was just going off a few other sets kits so feel free to chime in with input.  New rough draft of novelties was also added.

The pipe is getting crazy full especially for new SA kits.  I'd start with shortening the color options you're looking for in this first round and give a list to Melissa soon so they can start working on what all its going to take.  Keep in mind there are about a half dozen or more sets in mind for drop or group buy already and SP typically can only put about 1.5 sets in production at a time and production tends to run about 3 to 4 weeks straight (excluding delivery time, material shortage, etc etc).  So realistically this could happen but the drop schedule could be some time out before the set is submitted to production.

Plus you need to consider timing between drops.  Back to back drops can tighten the budgets for everyone which limits the buy potential so while the interest could be immensely strong, there can always be the risk the buy is not as successful as it would otherwise be.  Plus we still need to get a go on the novelties, whether SP wants to do them and also whether they can do them.

Take your time, cross check your files for accuracy and lets see what SP can come back to you with :thumb:

The new novelties look great.  Definitely more of what I would expect from something titled "Rebel."

Just as an idea, I think the silhouette of the Nebulon-B Frigate (http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/5/50/NBfrigate.JPG/revision/latest?cb=20061215024715) could be really cool as the 1.5u key.  I'd consider myself knowledgeable about Star Wars, but for the life of me I can't place the current 1.5u design.

Still very interested.

Keep up the great work!

I know it will be a while.  I'm in no real rush.  I still have plenty to do and with the hours I'm working, I'm finding very little time to do any of it lol.  I will use the Massdrop poll as a guide as far as shortening options and whatnot.  I will get back with Melissa as soon as possible and get the poll set up whenever my job will let me.  Maybe I'll take a vacation day so I can knock this stuff out.  I could certainly use one!

Thank you for the continued feedback.  I appreciate it.  :thumb:

I really don't have an issue running both.  I can't choose between the 2, that's why I did both.  I just wanted to try and cut some of the kits down so there wasn't so many choices.. which saying it like that doesn't necessarily mean it would be a bad thing.  I just didn't want to have to do 2 of every kit.. mainly with the novelties.  I could do black/ white legends like the stripe kit for them, that way they could be used for either modifier set. I'll have to see how that looks.

Also, regarding R3.. This is not 100% set in stone.  I think it makes the most sense in order to have the best chance of the Aurebesh alphas to be done.  All layouts would be supported in the least amount of keys possible.  That being said, those alphas have over 100 votes alone and going on the quote I got [before the number row and punctuation keys were added], if each of those who voted actually bought the set it would only be about $38/ea.  I would assume with the few extra keys added it would be in the $45ish range.  If this set is a success, I will have no problem running a sculpted version sometime in the future.

I wanted to wait until the 3D render was done, but my brother and I just haven't had enough free time to get it finished.  We are already at nearly 300, so once the render is done I hope that will increase the interest even more.

Personally I would want full grey modifiers, but that is partly due to the fact that this set would go on a white keyboard (also, white keys can be a pain to keep clean). I agree with the fact that all R3 would offer greater compatibility, but it would be interesting to see the amount of people that wouldn't purchase this set because of the uniform profile, versus the amount of people who wouldn't purchase due to the sculpting (if it was sculpted that is) not being compatible with their layout.

A gray option could work.  It would probably need to be seen but it has potential.

R3 is something I'm still contemplating.  I haven't actually tried it, though am currently typing on sculptured SA (Troubled Minds) and have finally started to get used to that.  A run of both R3 and sculptured certainly has potential to spark buyer interest from both camps.

From what I've heard on timelines, sounds like getting anything onto MD will be rather later in the year so it seems like there still may be time to figure out which way you'd like to take the set.

Like this version only because you've added a vital "Gray" tint which is needed in this Colour-way.  Remember if you're trying to capture the true "Rebel Folklore" they are a messy, rag tag fleet of rejects, wanting to break free from the Unified Structure of the Empire.

As I'm getting older in life I now see the advantages of the Empire and it's absolute Control over the Cosmos, we need that more than any so-called Freedom Fantasies.

Huge thanks to csmertx (https://geekhack.org/index.php?action=profile;u=54632) for doing this!

Sculpted does work really well even for planck.  I haven't finished soldering my ergodox so I can't comment on how the profile would look on a dox kit but I definitely can add a +1 for a fully sculpted 40% board.

Apparently reading is hard for me today and I completely missed the gray option linked.  That actually looks good, though my wallet's sighing a bit at the admission.

This is true.  Given what we've heard regarding timelines on Dasher/Dancer, this set will probably be a bit.  Still, with all the stuff I want to pick up, I'll need to make good use of that time to ensure the wallet is sufficiently stocked for all that stuff.

Is there any possibility of inverting the colors on the alpha? White with orange aurebesh legends? Im looking for a set to go with another set of ergodox mods I have and I absolutely love this set and I will end up getting the aurebesh alphas anyway when this drops but it would look better inverted...

I've had this asked a few times.  The real issue I have is that I feel it will take to much away from the theme.. that and I personally don't want white alpha's.

The difficult part about switching up colors is trying to keep this set different from other popular sets that use similar colors.. ie. Carbon, Hack'd & Nostalgia off the top of my head.  I certainly don't want to step on any toes and I'd like to keep to the theme as much as possible & keep it distinguishable.  If you have an idea how to do it, I'll gladly take a look.  Keep in mind, orange is the most prevalent color, then white/gray and followed up by black.

Quite honestly, the orange caps with white legends is a bit more unique.  I think 7-bit did an earlier round with those colors but it's not a combination I've seen a lot but is one I've wanted.  Thus this set stands out to me in terms of orange while being different from other orange sets.

Anyways:

Let me preface this by saying the following: please be gentle.

This is my extremely amateurish mockup of potential replacements for the 1.5U key.

Obviously I wouldn't expect the Neb-B to be so intricate in actual production, but it's just a jumping off point in case people thought it was interesting.  The Y-Wing is more iconic though and would fit more with the X-Wing silhouette as well.

The only other idea I had would be CR90 corvette.

Don't mean to step on anyone's toes with this.

My ultimate goal is to get this current set run first.  I would love to run the other colorways either as 1 big round afterwards or even broken up in to seperate drops.  Once REBEL is done, there will be no additional cost on the Aurebesh so every set after can also have it as an option.  Personally, my body and keyboard want this:

Like I said above, I want to run all the sets.  I would like specific novelties for each set which the Y wing would be perfect for its respective set.  Whether this happens is probably pretty unlikely although not impossible.  I have yet to hear a peep from MD as of yet regarding the current set even.

And no, you aren't stepping on anyone's toes.  I encourage everyone interested to give me ideas!

Thanks again to everyone who has voted.  We are well over 500 now!  I'm not sure what the goal really is, it's clearly more than 200 before MD shows interest.

Having each starfighter set have its own "outline" novelty would look great imo. Maybe have the X-Wing outline be orange, A-Wing green, etc. to give it a bit more pop?

Speaking from experience, have you checked with SP if they can do the sharp corners in some of the Aurebesh legends. With double-shot legends, you can't get perfect corners.

Have you considered including non-homing versions of the "F" and "J" aurebesh legends in either the aurebesh alpha or the homing kit?  I think some people prefer to have a uniform feel throughout, and if this set ends up being made in DSA or R3 SA, then it'd be easy to swap around the keys without messing up the correspondence of the legends.

Yes, they are supposed to be there I just forgot to add them back to the kit.

Have you considered splitting the modifier kit into a 60% kit and a "TKL" kit (F row + arrow keys + navigation modifiers)?  I know a lot of people are partial to the 60% layout, so this would help them get into this set without having to add a bunch keys that they'd never end up using.

With having 2 color options for modifiers, I feel that it would be a little more overwhelming than it may already be.  I may revisit this idea and see what I can come up with though.  I can certainly see the appeal as 60% are quite popular.

From what I've found looking online about the Aurebesh alphabet, there are some legends that correspond to punctuation (http://www.omniglot.com/images/writing/aurekbesh.gif (http://www.omniglot.com/images/writing/aurekbesh.gif)).  Have you tried replacing the standard english punctuation legends with these, or is it more confusing if that is done?  Alternatively, there are the legends from this font (http://boards.theforce.net/threads/new-aurebesh-font.50009464/ (http://boards.theforce.net/threads/new-aurebesh-font.50009464/)), which deviate slightly from the original, but look more in line with standard english punctuation.

I am aware that there is punctuation but the thing with that is that it adds another $50 per custom legend.  That is the reason I chose to go with single centered punctuation.  It will keep the cost down and still give it a unique look over the standard alpha kit.  If there were to ever be any subsequent rounds of this set, I will gladly revisit this idea as well since the Aurebesh alpha molds will have already been done.

Well.. spoke with Yanbo sometime last week and it looks like this wont be dropping this year unless something comes up.  I'm still not sure if there is even a guarantee that MD wants to even drop this, but I guess it will be a waiting game.  Unless another vendor wants to help out but realistically MD is the best option I feel for this set.

I have some changes I've slowly been making that I'll update soon.  Also working on a few other things that I've talked a bit with another vendor but that is very early yet so we'll see where that goes as well.

Thanks for the support from everyone.  Nearly 700 votes on MD.. I honestly was stoked just to see it make it over the 200.

Unfortunately, for those keeping an eye on the Dasher/Dancer thread, the noted time frame isn't a surprise.  I believe zslane had coordinated things a good month or two ago and was looking at late 2016 for a launch.

It sounds like MD wants to run it if you've got info from them but they've likely got a big back log of sets to get through and want to avoid problems of having too many keycap buys going at the same time.  There's a DSA set up right now and likely several that are already have estimated time slots.  That and they seem to be spacing the buys out a little bit, possible to help wallets recover for the next round.

Yeah it's not all bad, really.  I've got the money but wouldn't mind being able to spend some more elsewhere for the time being.

Is the backlog due to MD or to the popularity of SA sets in general?

MD is the greater backlog from what's been mentioned in the Dasher/Dancer thread.  MD is balancing buys that include more than just SP sets and seems to be trying to keep the premiere sets (SP and GMK predominantly) spaced apart from each other to avoid these sets eating into each others sales.  Or at least that's what I'm getting from what's being done right now.

I'm fairly new to all this MD stuff about SP backlogs and all that, but would not doing the set in an alternate key profile like DSA not be an option?

Agreed.  It's the unknown that sucks in these types of situations more than anything.  The wait isn't a huge problem so long as we've got a decent idea of when the buy will launch even if it isn't an exact date.

With the popularity of SP and SA, specifically, it's not too surprising.  It is frustrating though.  At least it gives everyone ample time to set their wallets up for this.

Very true, wouldn't hurt to wait a little longer for this set to drop. Definitely don't want to miss this out after losing out on IMSTO'S Aurebesh.

Aww. Sadly, there goes my interest, then. Didn't look at the renders good enough, I guess, I have not noticed it's all R3. Oh well, wallet saved, at least!

(Still a beatiful set, but same row-profile across the board just doesn't work for me)

If you ever tried DSA before this is basically the "tall" version as it's uniform R3.

Uniform R3 still isn't 100%.  I'd personally like that at least for a first run because of all the options there already is.  Sculpted just means I'll need to add even more.

Also, OP was updated a bit.  Nothing huge, just some small changes.

I've yet to try R3 SA though am typing on sculptured SA right now.  I'll say that I like sculptured SA though I could see giving R3 a try.

The one limitation I see with R3 is that you'd only be able to mix/match with other R3 sets.  The importance of that will vary from person to person, though.

Dasher/Dancer was submitted to MD in March.  It's a maybe for this year at best.  I'm wondering how far out this one will end up.

I may revert back, I'm not sure yet.  The novelties are always a work in progress.  Trying to capture the theme while staying away from any copyright issues is a struggle.

In the grand scheme of things 2017 isn't actually that far off.

As for your mini survey, I'm definitely choosing uniform R3 with white mods considering all my boards are 65% so I need uniform keys for my right hand mods.

I think at the rate we're going, 2017 is when it would drop on MassDrop.  That would put production in late or very late 2017, potentially 2018 depending.  The SA train doesn't seem to be slowing as people still keep coming up with new sets and have started looking at vendors other than MassDrop as MD seems to be chock full of cap sets to run and tries to keep them separate from each other.

Still, this set will be sure to please once it's in hands.  Great combination of colors.

Not in the slightest. They have a much different feel to them since the SA are very thick ABS and the DSA are a bit thinner  and (usually) PBT.

No updates on any sort of time frame yet.  Regardless, we are closing in on 1100 votes on MD, so thanks for all the support!

I've been working on the set in my free time, I have quite a few tweaks & changes coming.  I've also been working on a cleaner 2D render, not quite as nice as T0mb3ry's, but I think it will look much better than the KLE renders.  Here's a small preview:

The 2D render looks great, I love the Aurebesh alphas as I've previously stated and am really holding out hope it sees production soon enough. 2017 will be a busy year for MD and SP, tons of cool SA/DSA sets in both the massdrop and production queues.

In terms of profile I rather like the sound of the r2 - r2 - r3 - r3 - r3 profile used in the capsule Cockpit kit of Godspeed. Not completely flat, not profoundly sculpted.

I own both flat and sculpted sets and find the former much easier typing experience, but the overall difference wouldn't stop me buying any particular set.

Kind of curious about that profile as well.  I tried my brothers R3 Ice Cap set and I found it quite nice.  I guess we can wait and see what the verdict is on the 22333 profile.  I'm assuming that will be in peoples hands before this set even drops.

I like r3, I have an ice cap set too and it feels great - I don't mind sculpted either though, just not as much my cup of tea for the most part. I think 2-2-3-3-3-3 will be a nice compromise and I definitely see more sets in the future offering an option similar to Mito's Cockpit kit.

Hoping this set and Miami Dolch come up on Massdrop as soon as possible come next year, SP's back log is gigantic.

Sorry, by "alphanumeric" I meant the punctuation keys as well. The punctuation keys look like they have regular legends in the renders.

Ah I thought that's what you might've been saying.  It was like that at one point.  The thing is, as it stands, the Aurebesh option already has 36 custom legends.  Do we need to add 10+ more?  I'm not sure yet.  Maybe there wouldn't be a significant price change by adding a few more.  I was trying to keep a balance of look and cost factor and that was why I went with centered mono legends.  I'll revisit this when it gets closer to drop time.

I like the full Aurebesh layout but if adding the extra 10 drives up the cost like crazy it may not be worth it, have novelties and stuff to play around with regardless. If not then I'm definitely all for it.

I just find it more logical and aesthetically pleasing for all the keys that type characters to have either standard legends or Aurebesh legends.

What process are you going to be using to make the legends? If they're going to be dye-sublimated, I don't see how they could cost much more. If they're going to be double-shot, they might, but I have a feeling that any additional costs will be rendered insignificant by the popularity of the drop.

They will be doubleshot.

Quote
25 sets                   $82.08 per set
50 sets                   $53.00 per set
100 sets                 $38.46 per set

That was the quotes I got back in February for the Aurebesh set with 26 custom legends being A-Z.  I've since added 0-9 and adding punctuation would bring it up to 22 or so more custom legends, nearly doubling that price.  Would Massdrop be able to get better pricing?  Probably.  I'll mock-up and few options and get quotes when the set has a drop date.

Anything under like $60-70 would be a win in my book if you get every single legend in Aurebesh, $40~ (even 50) at 200 for the ones you currently have would be awesome because it's basically the same price as one pays for standard Latin and the MOQ would be hit with absurd ease.

ISO kit, standard alphas and numpad kits will certainly be included.  They weren't added to the MD poll because I wanted to gauge interest in the other kits I wasn't sure about.

is it possible to add aurebesh punctuation keys as additional pack?

I will be looking at getting quotes and different variations of the aurebesh kit.  I don't really want to break it out in to another kit, if anything they will just be added to the aurebesh kit.

I hope you are going to stick with the Alt Gr layer on the inernational kit. Most GBs have been avoiding it recently, which makes a set less desirable to me.

Im restructuring some sets as I work on the new renders but Alt Gr will be staying.  :thumb:

This is a really sharp looking set.  Could you please look into adding a 6u space bar?  The Danger Zone had one so it's not unprecedented for SP/SA, especially with Massdrop's weight behind this.

Yeah I definitely would have liked to see it in 1-1-2-3-4-3...I was thinking about picking up a set with aurebesh, and then picking up another set of standard alphas to mix and match with SA Dasher (blue and orange are my company colors and I think those would juxtapose quite nicely, especially with the light blue in there)

Anyways, I have never owned an R3 keyset so I can't say, but I can tell you that I've avoided purchasing them thus far, if that means anything.

I guess I see why a flat profile might be chosen because of the non-standard alphas, uniform gives it a "sci-fi" look...but with how bright this keyset is going to be with the orange, I feel like a super bright keyset would look a little better sculpted. Don't ask me why, I just have a feeling it would.

Then again, I've never used R3 so what do I know?

R3 is good.  I like the 'retro' look of SA but I don't really care for sculpted.  There are a ton of sculpted sets out and that are in progress already and I know there are plenty of people like me who enjoy R3.  Ultimately, I'm not going to design/get a set made that I wont enjoy.

While there's definitely a lot of sculpted sets there's also plenty of all R3 sets people don't think about like 1976, danger zone, ice cap, and upcoming kabuto to name a few. I agree with your last statement, maybe run a sculpted set moq and if it doesn't meet moq then it's dropped, don't think that would really take away from your R3 at all.

Off the top of my head:
R3:
Nuclear Data
Dangerzone
2x 1976
Rebel
Ice Cap
Industrial

Sculpted:
2x Jukebox
2x Penumbra
2x Hyperfuse
2x Pulse
2x Commando
Carbon
Modern Selectric
Nantuket Selectric
Retro
Godspeed
TAC
Troubled Minds
Dasher & Dancer
Hackd By Geeks
Calm Depths
Oblivion
Grand Budapest
Camping
Photo Studio
Round 5, 6, 7
Valentine
RetroBlight
Green Screen

It wouldn't hurt to have another R3 option.

That could be an option, but then there would be a ton of issues I foresee with that.  There's 2 alpha & mod options, people are going to want both included.  Then there will be those that want X key added for X layout.  It's basically a never ending cycle haha.  I chose R3 not only as a mere selfish option, but one that could please everyone.. well, in a sense anyways.  There's no need for even more options like cole./dov. kits as well as 1 or 2 keys here and there for this and that layout.  With trying to get Aurebesh done, that is going to be expensive as is.  R3 seemed like the easiest option to keep the cost as low as possible all the while supporting as many layouts as possible.  A sculpted set option might still be a possibility.  As I said, the last communication I had with MD was around August and they said they wanted to make this set happen on 2017.  With the amount of sets out now and waiting for a slot, I have no idea if that is even still going to happen.

With a Star Wars set, you definitely have timing on your side. If this hits massdrop fresh on the heels of the latest Star Wars movie, it should be a mega hit.

I personally really enjoy typing on uniform DSA keysets, I've just never tried the same for SA. I'm definitely interested in giving it a shot, and would probably work best for this set tbh...I'd just love to mix these alphas with Dasher mods, but that's not a very good reason to change a set :p

I have been meaning to pick up an r$ SA set one day, and this might have to be it.

Funny thing about star wars is you actually dont need to line it up with anything, the hype runs all year since disney got rights, and star wars collectors go nuts over anything perceived as niche or limited. Anyways I have plans for this on the rama65-a, blue/whiite LEDs on the base, dark grey, star wars theme here I come.

You could always run R3 for one round and sculptured for another round.  As a mild curiosity, I'm wondering if the company that does XDA could handle this colorway.  Isn't that somewhere between SA R3 and DSA in terms of height while being non-sculptured?

That is an interesting thought.  And with it being a Chinese? company, I wonder if novelties wouldn't be an issue with them.  Regardless, I have no idea on who to even contact to check that process, and getting in touch with anyone from MD is practically hopeless.  :))

The MD lack of communication gets me.  You would think that they'd want to keep in better contact with the community given their willingness to throw money at the screen on a regular basis with cap sets.  Instead, we get crickets and then, surprise!  Buy is up or at least coming soon and even the set creator had no idea.

I understand that they don't want to give out time slots for buys well ahead of time as things change.  They've extended some buys and others have ended up pulled.  That's understandable.  A basic confirmation would be helpful though.  Something like, "okay, we've got the info and everything's set.  You've got a slot and once we get closer to launch, we'll confirm the time frame for the buy."

As was said I believe Lunarisdream should be able to figure something out, he knows a lot about XDA and as far as I know the profile's creator/responsible, though his name escapes me right now, is fairly involved in the community - hopefully you'd be able to work something, as a huge fan of DSA I'm all for more XDA sets.

What's the status on this?

Also out of curiousity, is there any chance of the Novelties pack including a 1.75 keycap and perhaps a second 2.25 one?
I'm asking because that would allow truefox owners to buy the nolveties only without having to buy the Compatibility pack for 1 or 2 keys only.

No update.  I messaged Yanbo from MD probably 2 months ago and haven't heard anything.  I'm going to assume that since SP is booked out for the year that this set isn't even in the pipeline or else I probably would've heard something by now.

I agree, especially since it's closing in on 1800 votes on the MD poll and hearing last year that they wanted to make it happen in 2017.

I have the OP mostly done, I probably won't update it until I hear something.  Not a huge deal regardless, I'm working on some bigger non keycap related projects at the moment anyways.

Which ones?  The ones that MaxKey has in GB status with pictures are renders.  AFAIK there were issues with the molds that MaxKeys received from SP, basically BACK SPACE and SHIF T are some of the most known issues but I believe there are others.  I'm on the fence with MaxKeys until we see some actual photos of their current work.  There are reasons I'm sure besides SP's blatant upcharging with why Maxkeys would sell for only $75 when the typical cost from SP is at least double that estimate.

My 2 cents which are worth... exactly $0.02

Most likely not for two reasons.  PBT would most likely mean dye subliminated and the colors will most likely not match the OP.

I have actually thought about PBT.  A simple swap to black legends would still look alright I think.  In doing that, since white is pretty important to the theme I may drop the gray mods and maybe do some type of gray color pack for those that still want the gray option.

Also with dyesub, the Aurebesh Alpha set should be much easier and cheaper to do.

Maybe I should just skip Massdrop and see about getting this in a 'set of the month' from PMK.

I won't be in on this as I don't like all R3. But you should check to see how well they can recreate that orange on pbt, and also know you'll be losing that nice shine to the keys.

However you decide to go, I'm in.

I always find the orange/black color combo very Halloween-esque.  It could work but I wonder.  The other option might be orange legends on a lighter cap like gray or white.

Count me in. As long as those Aurebesh alphas are around, I'm in.

I am fairly new to the mechkeyboard community in general, but I was wondering if you had considered going with the company that does the MT3 keys that are currently on MassDrop atm?

They do dye subbing and it's thick PBT. I'm not at all sure of what that company has in store for their future considering their very first drop is still in motion, but it seems like something that is worth checking. Especially so considering SP seems to have trouble producing sets quickly and Maxkeys seems to have quality issues (and doubleshotting a new alphabet sounds... expensive).

MT3 uses a process called dye sublimation for the legends which is, more or less, a printing process. So you can't print legends that are lighter than the base cap color. In this case it means you couldn't do the white on orange. They could do the dark gray on orange, but that would probably change the feel of the set more than the designer would like.

Could you add a "Ç" cap to the Int kit? It's the only key left for my PT layout and almost no keysets have it.
Other than that, I'll be all over this like hotcakes when this out (ç or no ç).

If it's dyesub, the legend colors would need to change.  If they can add doubleshot capabilities, it moves to MaxKeys, or stays with SP then the colors can remain as-is.  There's a Chinese maker doing reverse dyesub but the quality's not fantastic at this point.

Oh I'm sorry. I wasn't aware of the limitation of dye subbing. Thank you for explaining.

Very interested in this for the uniform R3 orange alphas for my POS board. Any chance of 1x1 unit orange blanks being made available?

Loving the set!  How about two long novelty keys for the ergodox thumb cluster-- something like the yellow cation key shown in the 1.25U novelty set?

Out of curiousity, have you considered releasing this in another profile while you look for someone to make it in SA?
**** I'd buy this in XDA just to tide me until SA gladly.

Maybe. ;)

Things may or may not be in motion on this set, I just have a few bigger projects in the works at the moment.

Is this still happening? I have a friend interested in them, might be his gateway to mechanical keyboards  :D

Yes, it's planned and most of the work is done but I'm more focused on custom keyboards at the moment.  No ETA at this time.

KAT Auresh

I was working on that for KAT Monochrome, but copyrighting seems to be a problem, even with Keyreative. I assume aurebesh alphas would be ok, but it would be a little lackluster w/o novelties imo (I was working on both aurebesh alphas and novelties).

The geek inside of me would die for that to happen though!
