GeekHack Key GIVEAWAY! Update: Winners Announced!
« on: Mon, 04 June 2012, 15:00:50 »
Much like Gilissant's give away this will be determined by Random.org. We are giving away two Red on White Geekhack keys donated by Reaper! (Thanks Reaper!) You must post how many keyboards you have, and how much (approximately), to date, you've spent on keyboards. Please post in this thread to enter the contest! I will keep a running tally, but if you don't see your name, shoot me a PM and I'll do my best to keep everything up to date.
This contest will end on Saturday June 30th at Midnight CST!

Congrats to Megnin and Luckyownz92!

I have three mechanical keyboards. More info is in my sig.

  • Topre Realforce 45g 87UW
  • Kustom Ergo Clear Filco w/ thick dyesubs and acrylic case
  • WASD V1 w/ blues and thick dyesubs

I also have a KMAC LE on the way which will have browns and some custom switches.

To date I've spent well over $1k on keyboards and related items. My current collection, KMAC included, I would estimate worth ~$1400 including various extra keycaps including my 2 clickclack factory 2nds and super rare vintage cherry corp red thick double shot esc key.

P.S. don't include me in the contest. I just like an opportunity to brag ;)

P.P.S. in the past I've owned the following (but sold)
  • Unicomp Customizer
  • Siig Minitouch with white alps
  • Dell AT101
  • Compaq MX11800
  • Realforce 103UB variable
  • Realforce 103UB 55g
  • Filco tenkeyless with browns
  • Filco Tenkeyless V2 w/ reds
  • Leopold tenkeyless w/ clears
  • Cherry G80-8113  with clears
  • Cherry G80-3494 with reds
  • Topre HE00100
  • Realforce 86UB variable
  • Various Keycaps and Keysets (mainly double shot)
  • Custom blue dyesub keyset from SP

I'm intrigued now.  I went to Deskathority and found a couple of webwit's posts but nothing about his keyboards.  What's he got?

Edit:  I don't plan to compete.  I think I have all the keyboards I want now.  I had all the keyboards I need two years ago.  ;-)

Not in for the contest but I probably own about 2-3 dozen keyboards, have sold a dozen others on ebay, have given away a half-dozen to friends, have donated at least 2 dozen that were junk to charity, and have probably spent at least $1K in total and recouped maybe $300.

Currently I have about 6-8 Model Ms, a Model F AT, about 3 working Model F-122s, a Chicony KB-5181, about 3 Dell AT-101s/101Ws, an AEK2, and around a dozen various good rubber domes (if anybody wants a good used Dell QuietKey, Compaq SK-2800, or IBM KB-8923 for something like $10 + shipping, let me know).

I have owned and sold a Leopold full-size blues, Cherry brown POS, a few Apple Keyboards and Extendeds with Alps, a couple of Chicony 5181s, a couple of Northgate Omnikeys, and I went through about 4 F ATs until I got one I really liked.

I also have several Model Ms and M-122 carcasses laying around.

Kind of disgusting, really.

I want nice 2 full-size Filcos or WASDs with reds and browns, which I will o-ring, but no hurry there.

I currently have:

2x original IBM model m
1x Lexmark (Ambra rebranded) model m
1x Cherry G81
1x Cherry G80 with trackpad
1x Cherry G83
2x Cherry black Wyse terminal
1x Focus (rebranded) FK-2001
1x unknown keyboard with super simplified alps keys
1x BTC keyboard
1x Razer Blackwidow
1x Razer Blackwidow Ultimate
1x KBC Poker (blues)

For a total of fourteen keyboards totaling around $260 Canadian. The fact that I had over ten different keyboards came as a bit of a surprise to me (although it shouldn't really have).

I plan on buying my first set of key-caps, a set of PBT caps for my poker, sometime this month.

For a whopping total of $131 USD ._. Hoping this list grows considerably in the near future, I'd like to star amassing a keycap collection and get another board (thinking a Choc mini or a HHKB if I can get rid of this pesky kidney) with either browns or clears.

Love that the spirit of giving is spreading a little. I hope to see more people give stuff away. My upcoming contest will be posted soon if I get the time. There is a long story as to why I haven't had time to post as much lately, but who cares, right ;).

I only have a Filco with blues, a Poker X with browns (my favorite out of the two) and a Goldtouch 0077 numpad with browns, but I am planning on getting a poker with reds some time in the future. I had to spend a fair bit on the Filco, but got the Poker and Goldtouch for a pretty reasonable price.
We shouldn't ever list how much we have spent on keycaps. That number is going to be painful for me at least xD.

I don't need the keycaps so I am not entering the giveaway =).
Good luck to anyone that enters =D.

Well, I could reduce the number you have by one. You don't really NEED 2 KMACs, do you?

I have two main keyboards currently: One leather Ducky keyboard and one Comfort Keyboard System. In the past I have had all sorts of modified rubber dome boards. My two main mods were coating / covering the keycaps in something soft (rubber, latex, grippy paint, leather) and cutting the rubber domes to make them softer.

So that is 2 current keyboards, with about $400 invested in the two of them.

I have mostly bought broken ones or found them in dumpsters, repaired them and either kept them or sold them. So not much spent up until the last month or so. A month ago, I would have said that I had a net result of zero. Today, it is more like 400$

I've added a Filco Linear R to my collection recently. I have to say red switches are incredibly comfortable to type on. No effort what so ever needed. And because of the red switches on my Linear R I had to get my wife a Choc mini with reds. I don't think she really notices a difference from rubber domes or even cares enough to notice the difference between the red switches and her laptop keyboard, but she did make it girly and her own, so I guess that's something:).

I'm still unsure of value, but I am guessing I've spent $600 on keyboards so far.

Sorry for the delay guys but I'll be announcing winners tonight.

I should present this thread to my GF as evidence that my keyboard fetish is quite under control...

Watch out for a reboot of this thread with EPIC giveaways coming soon!

So the winner please pm me your shipping address within 12 hours.  If I don't hear from you then it's on to the next person on that list.  Thanks.
