Guys,
I feel like killing myself right now.
I just spilled half a bottle of beer over my first and favorite keyboard.
A QFR which I modded with 65g vintage blacks.
This keyboard was my first mechanical keyboard ever and my daily driver for 4 years. I have HHKBs, SSKs, Novatouches ... but nothing could replace my modded QFR.
I'm so depressed right now ... it feels like a close friend passed away ... 4 years of 8h daily use ... this keyboard was my best friend.
I just disassembled it and will let the parts dry for a few days, but the inside smells burnt and I don't think it survived ...
I don't know what to do right now ... I don't know how to replace it ...
How do you replace the frist mechanical keyboard you ever had. A QFR ISO which you rarely find these days ...
It feels so weird ... the last time I was this sad was at a funeral.
I never could've imagined that a damn keyboard would make me feel so incredibly depressed ...

hrrmm... well as long as it didn't get into the switches,  everything else should be ok

Dry time will vary, but if you can suspend it over a heater or lightbulb on LOW setting.. that would speed it up dramatically.

Don't put it too close or else the heat could warp or melt something

The issue will be whether the switches has beer in them, that's the biggest issue.. because if the switches are gummed up.. that's extremely time consuming to clean.

Keyboards can generally be replaced - as long as no-one was fatally injured during proceedings.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

aren't there replacement controllers for these keyboards?? 3rd party ones?

if something did fry it is probably the controller.. ???  not sure what else would?

how quickly did you disconnect it after the spill?.. certainly while not ideal it may well be salvageable..

and of course in the great and grand scheme of things it is just a keyboard..

I have an ISO QFR and I need its case, but I can give up the circuitry, if you need it.

After 24 hours of drying near the heater, it seems to work again, but long term testing is required I think ...
Sadly, many switches got beer in them and are now sticky. Rest in Piece lubed vintage blacks  :-X
Not sure yet if I'm going to clean them, or just solder new switches into the board.
Anyhow, it won't be an easy job and I'm not sure if the PCB will be able to withstand another soldering job without lifting pads.
I hope I can restore the keyboard again, maybe I overreacted a bit yesteday, but it wasn't the first beer this evening, haha  :))

@TalkingTree A second QFR ISO circuitry would be awesome in case mine shouldn't survive the refurbishment

the switches just need to be cleaned.

But QFR boards are not very durable to repeated soldering..

It's alot of labor overall...

Just wanted to report back.
Took the keyboard apart, cleaned it, put it together - it's working.
I'm pretty sure the PCB won't survive another solder job, though.
