Trackball - PS2 pin-out?

So I'm trying to follow a pretty old thread about modding the Marquardt HEROS military keyboard from DIN connector to PS2 (or maybe two PS2...) connectors.  I can follow the pin-out chart okay, but it just seems to map the connections between the DIN connector and the PCB connector.

So how do I tell which wires to solder to a PS2 connector?  Probably some information was included in the pictures, which are completely missing.

I also can't tell from the text if the OP used a single PS2 connector, or two; one PS2 connector for the keyboard port and the trackball signal on a different PS2 for the mouse port.

It appears that I can use two PS2 connectors for the mouse and keyboard.  Time to find some spare PS2 connectors and test it out...

The original thread I linked above mentioned a broken bit in the trackball housing, too.  I suspect it's an easy area to damage, as the trackball protrudes above the case and the keys.  I'd bet someone stacked two or three of these 8-pound boards on top of each other at some point in the selling/shipping process.

Btw; I couldn't figure out what the black ball icons were on the top number pad keys.  Then I was re-reading the old Marquardt thread, and a light dawned; these are the trackball buttons.  Yep, I'm kind of slow sometimes...
