Hi all. I'm glad I came across this site because you guys seem like the home brew savvy guys that may have the solution for me.
I have an HP A7217A (Sony GDM-FW900) 24" CRT that I acquired as new-old stock a few years ago for about $350. Yeah, that was a heck of a day. I had to help the Fedex guy carry it into the house.
Anyways, this bad boy has been nothing but beautiful, until... I had just finished cutting my nails and must have left a sharp edge I did not notice. While wiping the screen, I made a scratch on the anti-glare coating.
I've read around on the internet for possible solutions. One was getting a scouring pad and removing the entire coating. I tested this on a 14" monitor, but was unhappy with the results. It left too many micro scratches, but I think the scratches were on left over coating and not on the glass.
I've read of other solutions ranging from car waxes to toothpaste and nothing has seemed to work. At this point, I'm convinced the only real solution would be to take the monitor completly apart and fully remove the coating from the glass. I'm worried about taking apart the monitor, though.
Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, and anything else you guys can think of will be greatly appreciated.
