So you ever thought to yourself, "Self, I'd love to hang out with some other GeekHackers but I'm far too lazy to leave my house and the comforts of GeekHack.org"? Well, I have the solution for you. Why bother leaving your house when we'll bring the party to you? After all, the party don't start til I walk in, you know?

But in all seriousness, we have car and are willing to meet up. Dorkvader and I are flying to Los Angeles and then driving from LA to Cincinnati/Virginia. LET'S HANG OUT. Ideally, we'd like to spend a night at someone's place each night so that we can visit with people and not have to spend on a hotel. If you don't want us to sleep on your carpet/couch/garage floor, then come out, talk about keyboards/unicorns/life with us and we'll leave you alone when things wind down.

Anyone want to meet us? Wanna hang out? Live between LA and Cincy/VA? Post here and let us know!

Right now here's our time line:

-Info from the OP on 9/21/13: Week of 10/16/13, we'll fly out to LA on Tuesday night or Wednesday. Spend a day or two there, then drive back. If we have more people to see, I think we'll leave earlier. If not, we might spend more time in LA. I am (CPTBadAss) am trying to fly out a bit earlier so I can have an extra day in LA. So I would fly into LA Monday of that week if my plans work out.

- Update 9/26/13: I'll be in LA 10/13 to 10/16. And then we're (Dorkvader and I) driving starting on 10/17. Dorkvader flies into LA on 10/16.

-Update 10/3/13: Ok here's the plan tentatively, all times in EST for now
  • 10/13/13 Sunday - 10/15/13 Tuesday: I fly into LA on Sunday and hang out with some LA kids
  • 10/16/13 Wednesday: Dorkvader arrives, we do car things and then hang out.
  • 10/17/13 Thursday - We leave from LA around 8 am and drive to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Looking like a 12 hour drive. We won't be stopping to visit anyone since there's no one on the way.
  • 10/18/13 Friday - We're stopping in Odessa, TX to meet with JD for lunch (Noon-ish). Then staying in a hotel in Dallas for the night. We'll be shooting for an arrival time in Dallas at 6 pm. We'll be spending the night there and we have all evening so this is probably the best place for a proper meetup.
  • 10/19/13 Saturday - Leaving Dallas at 8 am at the earliest and then driving to Nashville to have dinner with Mashby. Aiming to get into Nashville around 6 pm and leaving around 8 pm to arrive in Cincinnati by midnight.

My plan is to fly in to LA early on 10:16 (like 10AM or so) spend the night, then leave somewhat early the next morning (as 10/16 will be a lengthy day, flight leaves at 5AM eastern!)

People who have said they might want to hang out with us:

- jcrouse, hashbaz, hoffmanmyster, the_beast, MKULTRA, prdlm2009, mashby, Wildcard, aggiejy, TheFlyingRacoon, Melvang, meiosis

People we're definitely seeing:
- demik, mkawa, carter, Halverson, jdcarpe, tjcaustin, Sherryton

Get your name on the list now! I literally got a text an hour ago from Dorkvader so everything is subject to change since he'll be the leader of this roadtrip. Unlike my userID, I'll be his co-pilot and not the captain :(. I will of course write a huge writeup about all our adventures and I'll probably have my KMAC with me. Because baby goes everywhere with me :D. Oh and my Epsilon Theta too.

More details will be posted as dorkvader, myself, and mkawa figure things out.

Dorkvader's Edit Section

10:56PM eastern 9-22
The second post will be the current "idea" for itinerary, but I figured I'd post a bit here before I made that start.

It's great to see all the people who want us to visit! This is rapidly becoming the First-Ever GH rolling meetup! I might mail some keyboards to California so I'll have more to show people
I'll see about keeping this post updated with a list of what we plan to do and what we'll bring, etc.

I'm originally from NY, I might be going to NYC over Thanksgiving or Christmas break. If the NYC meetup happens, I might make an appearance. Otherwise, I might have an impromptu meetup in NYC at like a ramen place or a restaurant to get food and chill.

I want that NYC meetup to happen. My keyboards are getting bored of each other.

If not, swing through southern Texas, and we might have to get a couple people in the area together, if you know who I mean.

I don't hate anyone.

Ok, well, anyone minus maybe 2.  But you aren't part of the two, tfr.

I think if you're stopping in Odessa for the night you should probably plan on at least one more overnight stop in TX, depending on which interstate you want to take to leave Odessa.

Get to see moose and tfr taking I-10 and me and some less loud members (I think there's 1 in Ft Worth and another in Dallas) taking I-20.  Or we meet somewhat in the middle in Austin.

Well, Mission District burritos + hanging with the hash, might lure me to N. cali.  I'm not so sure fast food hamburgers are a big drawing point.  And this place, Babita (http://www.babita-mexicuisine.com/) might just get me to go back to LA.

This cross-country road trip reminds me of the book Travels with Charley, with dorkvader as John Steinbeck, and CPTBadAss as Charley.  It would be better if they had a camper truck, though.  And lots of expensive whiskey stored in the camper (like 'ol Steinbeck had.)

You ever read Blue Highways?  Another great travel book, and the author did not make stuff up, like Steinbeck in Travels with Charley.

ok, i have to make one correction here, when you go to the mission, you get tacos, not this burrito bull****. you go to la taqueria on 25th and mission and you get a carne asada taco w/ everything. if you're hungry you get two of them. I see that everyone wants you to stay south (TX), but if for some reason you wanted to shoot north for a bit to Minneapolis, you could hang out with me.  And probably flynn.  And all the other people around here.  But it is a bit out of the way, so it's your call.

In fact, now that I think about it, this would be super easy.  Just hop on I-35 and take it right into town.  It's only one road, it can't be that far.

In n out and hanging with the hash are two musts when coming to cali

Well, Mission District burritos + hanging with the hash, might lure me to N. cali.  I'm not so sure fast food hamburgers are a big drawing point.  And this place, Babita (http://www.babita-mexicuisine.com/) might just get me to go back to LA.

This cross-country road trip reminds me of the book Travels with Charley, with dorkvader as John Steinbeck, and CPTBadAss as Charley.  It would be better if they had a camper truck, though.  And lots of expensive whiskey stored in the camper (like 'ol Steinbeck had.)
ok, i have to make one correction here, when you go to the mission, you get tacos, not this burrito bull****. you go to la taqueria on 25th and mission and you get a carne asada taco w/ everything. if you're hungry you get two of them. THAT'S IT. THAT'S HOW IT WORKS. VIOLATE THIS ONE SIMPLE RULE AND YOU RISK MY WRATH

eta: WITH EVERYTHING. TELL THE NICE WOMAN YOU WANT EVERYTHING ON IT. OTHERWISE, WRATH

Well, you'll have to excuse my East Coast ways, but you see here in beautiful, cosmopolitan NYC we have excellent tacos.  If you come here, I will buy you some goat tacos that will blow your mind.  Literally, your head will be gone.  (and they cost like $2)  But you see, for some reason nobody in this town can make a half-way decent burrito.  There are two guys who moved here from San Fran who make an imitation mission burrito, but it's not the same.  (I think they moved here just to open their mission burrito business, tbh.  And due to the lack of any other competent burrito-competition, they have been able to dominate the market and have expanded to 5 locations already in only 2 years.)  Anyway, a mission burrito is what I really want when I go to SF.  But, I take your point, and I readily admit that on the culinary scale of greatness the burrito is inferior to the taco.  The taco really is the ultimate statement of culinary delight.  So simple, yet so great.  It's like 2,000 years of Mexican cuisine distilled into a masa tortilla and filling.  The burrito, on the other hand, is a bloated, sloppy mess.  The burrito is too big, too loaded with fat, has too many extra ingredients that don't really belong in there, and it makes you f@rt like a sunva-beach.

Well, anyway, this whole trip is going to pass me by so it doesn't really matter.  Maybe CPTBadAss can come to NYC, and we can do a roadtrip westbound out to Cali, like Jack Kerouac and Neil Cassaday in On the Road.  [most kewlest book evar!]  Or if that's too much trouble, I guess we can just head out east to Sag Harbor, NY, and get drunk in front of John Steinbeck's old house. [and eat some taco's?  There's a not too bad taco place/ Mexican grocery store in Sag Harbor that I know.]

YESH!  This is my kind of burrito.  Wait, is that a burrito?  Or chili cheese fries?  I like the lime on there to make it authentically Mexican, w/e it is.

If you feel like driving 7 hours north before starting east you can hang out with the hash.

Not sure we can make it to SF because it seems like it's out of the way. I need to talk to Dorkvader though.

If not, swing through southern Texas, and we might have to get a couple people in the area together, if you know who I mean.

Yes, come to Texas! We have Moose, JD, TJ, Pixel, and some other members I'm sure. We could probably organize a meetup.  :D

Yeah, we might do that moose as well as a mini-meet. Jdcarpe has said we're welcome to stay at his place. I'm not sure how far everyone is from Odessa but please let me know and help us plan.

If your coming across 70 you are welcome to crash with us in Columbia Missouri. Great college town and good food. Everything a growing boy needs.

John

I'll add you to the list of possibles John :D.

If you are going through Des Moines, IA for some awful reason... you can stop by my place.

I'll also add you to the list of possibles Ivan.

Halverson is going to Salt Lake City October 9, for two weeks....maybe more. I also have a house in mesquite Nevada.

You guys wanna hang out and stuff? I'll have access to vehicles to meet up places as well.

Halverson, Mesquite looks way better than Salt Lake. Let me know if you can swing by Nevada.

Make time for the Indy meet up dude!

If you guys wanna sleep on the floor of my dorm, be my guest.

I second for stopping by Indy.  I have no place for you to sleep, I would love if we had some extra room, but not at the moment.  So perhaps just stop in town for a meal.

Guys, I live 2 hours from Indy. I could have dinner with you this Tuesday night if you really wanted. I would happily drive to Indy again (I was there this previous weekend visiting mistakemistake). I would love to throw together an Indy meet separate from this later. But let me talk to Dorkvader.

If your course sends you my way, then I humbly suggest...

NASHVEGAS!

Three reasons to stop here:
   1. Visit MechanicalKeyboards.com on the way into town

   2. Crash at my place

   3. I'll cook you dinner

What Up Shoney? (ツ)_/¯

Wonder if we could swing that...

Not sure if we could swing going up north but I'll add you to the list.

Cpt knows where I'm at. I have 2 couches and would be more than willing to make some amazing pulled pork sammiches! (maybe not as good as mashbys, but it'll be free!)

I'll add you to the list mang. I'm not sure what the route might look like, just wanted to see if anyone was interested in hanging out.

it's not a might with demik and i. demik is viet in disguise, so when we go to westminster, demik and anson gonna viet it up. dv's coming to pick up my car, so if he avoids me when he's here, i'm gonna be an unhappy camper ;)

Hehehe, ok Ming, we'll fix the OP in a bit :P.

I am 8 hours away from Odessa. I don't think my 04 Explorer can drive that far without breaking.  :))
