Traxsys Roller II Its Huge!
« on: Sat, 16 June 2018, 09:07:45 »
Starting to realise a new passion for Track balls. Ive been using a Ltrac for 6 months as my daily work device, brilliant, love it. But as with all these things I wondered what else is out there.

Got this because it uses Cherry switches and a massive ball, and with a hope I might transplant it into a new case at some point.

First impressions. its massive and dwarfs my Ltrac
Its crunchy, Opto mechanical. and steel rollers on bearing should be smoother than this i think.  I'll be seeing what can be done.

Partly the reason for the thread, no scrolling at all, there is a middle button but its a latching left press so cant be remapped as far as I can tell.

Otherwise though, its a beast of a thing and once in Fast mode, very usable even on a ultrawide

Any help with the latching much appreciated.

Prob nee dat Lubrikat.. !!

HAHA Dunnit :D much better.

What gets me though is that these are "designed" for people with difficulties and probably cost £250 or something new, and its **** really and doesn't work very well needs modifying OTB to make it work smoothly, some people cant handle noise like that and have enough trouble with fine motor skills without barriers like this, they should be better more accurate, not just put in a massive box that can be bolted down.

I paid £50 for this new old stock and maybe its worth that Just.  just looked it up they are $240.00 in Canada ..maybe too much rant :/

Hmm, you just gave me an interesting idea... Start with a Logitech Trackman, make a new case and use Cherry switches instead of the micro switches it uses, it would be great for Cad work and video editing.  :thumb:

My plan is something similar for Cad with a 3d navigator in front of the ball

Interesting.
Not sure I need a 3d navigator (though the more I think about it the more I'm considering it), but I certainly want to add a few hotkeys. I've been thinking about building a small 5 or 6 key keyboard and this would be a convenient place for them.

I think both of these are getting close to commercial video editing rigs I've seen, but hopefully without the price.
