[IC] The Danck - sub-$30 Planck layout keyboard kit
« on: Thu, 07 December 2017, 04:46:13 »
We were memeing around in Discord today and somehow decided to make a super-cheap Planck-sized keyboard kit for the heck of it. This went from meme idea to reality in less than four hours. Here it is.

Link to IC: https://goo.gl/forms/hpdLHCvL35Baw9Jl1

Cartel and its affiliates present to you:
Danck - The hella low cost Planck.
Just a PCB and a bottom plate (also PCB material), the bare minimum for a functional keyboard.

Features:
- 2U or split space.
- All through-hole parts. 48x diodes, 1x Pro Micro.
- Assembled with M2 standoffs and screws.
- Programmable via QMK.
- Nothing fancy. A very nice way to try out some switches, enjoy some DIY, or to test out ortho keyboards.
- Random crapposts/memes on the bottom of the PCB. Easily hidden when the kit is assembled, if they're not your thing. If you have a suggestion for another (acceptable) meme to add to the board, there's an option on the IC form to submit some.

Pics/PCB renders:

Top of PCB

Bottom of PCB

Bottom of base plate - can be flipped to hide logo. Reset hole(s) are added, just not in this pic.

Price: Sub-$30 USD before shipping - possible price breaks at 25 and 50 MOQ

Actual GB will be hosted on cartel.ltd.

to compliment the Assdrop

you should sell ones printed with either a "left hand" or a "right hand" then send everybody the wrong one

We're adding some stuff to the PCB currently and added a PCB-material plate to the mix. The kit will still be sub $30.

Would you mind adding shipping estimates? Sub $30 sounds great but if shipping is >$30 it's a whole different beast again.

We're considering proxying these for Europe to keep individual shipping costs down.

A big thanks to those who filled out the IC form / provided suggestions - we've made adjustments on the Danck, based off your feedback.

The following images are updated renders of the kit's 3 sections:

Top side of PCB

Back side of PCB

Back side of bottom plate

Top side of bottom plate (hidden by PCB)

We've also decided to include a top switch-plate in our kit.

Stay tuned for the GB launch. It's happening soon.

I know this is kinda a joke, but I feel like this is a really good way to test an ortho layout without having to shell out for something you're uncertain about.

Is the PCB holtite compatible? I also think it would be nice to test planck and would be a nice way to test switches for example.

There's a cutout for cherry PCB mount. Costar would fall through/not fit.

Random crapposts/memes on the bottom of the PCB. Easily hidden when the kit is assembled, if they're not your thing

What would be the best way to actually show off the memes?  Clear acrylic bottom plate with feet to prevent scuffing?

I see you put a place for the reset switch but I don't see the said switch in the included kit, do we have to buy our own? If we do, can you provide details of the switch? Another question, do we have to buy our own diodes too?

The PCB has a hybrid MX-Alps footprint and the plate has a hybrid MX-Alps cutout.

Working out the last few details for the mykeyboard page, it'll be up today at some point I believe!
