This year is already turning out to be wallet hack. Way too many sets and other goodies from vendors and group buys in only two months. Critical mass is approaching. I want to say no to this but may not be able to. We will see. Major kudos for at least doing a real base set.

i'm curious as to why there are suddenly so many group buys going on con currently with very close deadlines, can't the organizer delay them so the are intervals in between where people can actually save some money and not have to pay so much in one go.. im very interested but i don't really fancy spending this much money within such a short period of time. i say delay this!! I'm being a bit confused with the many XXX on YYY options. Would it be possible for you to attach some pictures? How about bubble mailer? How many keys would it fit and how much does it cost? Not like tracking works with international anyways..

It would have to be a decently large mailer as the traditional ones only fit about half the keys a keyboard needs.
With lower shipping cost and thus overall lower value i could skip insurance. Also tracking is usually useless internationally (unless it guarantees faster shipping).
I wouldn't mind a bubble mailer with an extra bubble wrap inside. Say around 10.5x8 inch for around 100 keys.
You could do 1 mailer per set and probably still be cheaper up to 2 sets, at the same time enabling 1 set international participants.
Expensive shipping could still be optional.
edit: what's the threshold for expensive bubble mailers? also aren't there any alternatives to usps?

As the GB organizer, you can make the sets contain whatever keys YOU want. The sets, as you currently have them, are the way that SP has been selling them, but YOU can tell THEM which keys you want in which sets, and which colors. But you have to be very specific when doing this. These are things that are sometimes covered in an interest check.

I don't want you to tell how to make the keys but when you make a google image search with 'CCnG keyboard' you find the version with green f5-f8 and cc f5-f8. I'm not sure what looks better but i thought it is the same as in round 1.
With the 17keys set: The toxic set and DSA have the numpad set as a 27keyset. In my opinion an one colored numpad block doesn't look as appealing as a combination.

If you are waiting to fill out the form to see if the prices go down, just fill it out now because the prices will drop and your order form will help it. Worst case scenario is that if you don't like the final prices I can cancel it for you!
Alrighty so for a Pack of GH keys(CCoG and GoCC) it will be around only .60 cents extra if we get to 250 base/modifier sets ordered. The maximum cost it could be would be .90 cents for a pack. I will put these in with every order unless someone tells me they don't want the extra two keys for only a dollar.

I don't know where people come up with the numbers saying that sets from round 1 are selling for $150. I've seen multiple sets in the last few months selling for between $75-80 for the base set, which is pretty reasonable imo.

"CCoG Numpad Set" is the one in the mockup right? (because it has mixed colours) thus green on cream for the numbers and cream on green for the rest.

My main problem with the mockups hasn't been solved by Melissa, it doesn't reflect what's on the order form. It says very nicely what is normal and what is inverted, but once you look on the order form you see CCnG and GnCC. It would be easier to either add CCnG and GnCC to the mockups or add "normal" and "inverted" to the order form.I agree.

could you add previews for the two ISO options? iirc the original ccng iso kit was kind of a mix with the enter key being CCoG and the single keys GoCC so i am not entirely sure to which keys the two options refer to.

The closest matches are PMS 362C and PMS 7499C ...the 7499C is a bit more yellowish than the chip but it was the closest I could find.

They're actually SP profile, which is mostly close to cherry, except for the bottom row.

If you could get "kaporkle" to render a few images with the CC&G's in place within the TKL and 104 keyboard's, then get ready for an avalanche of orders.
Most people here would be 'noobs' who've just signed up and don't know what's happening, hence having the images with the key-caps showing them what they're buying, will help immensely. ;)

Although I'm crossing my fingers that we'll get to the cheaper price points, I've decided that even at the current higher price tiers, my risk is minimal, as I'll be able to re-sell anything that I end up buying for at least what I paid for it. Yeah, to my knowledge it won't be as bright as the ones in the renders. Now that you've mentioned it, I compared my set with the render and boy are the renders bright..
Is this the green that will be replicated in this groupbuy? The green in the renders looks way brighter (I like the darker green better).
The renders do look a little bright. The best thing to do is look at images of past CCnG sets for context. Photos will have different levels of light, etc., but it should give you a broader reference as to what shade of green CCnG actually is.

Ummm, I didn't like it BECAUSE you can't buy separate Spacer Bars at all. >:( Hence you needed to buy the whole key-set to get that single extra spacer bar.
Most Group Buys allowed you to buy mulitple individual keys like Caps Locks, Spacer Bars, ISO's and what not but the RainDrop was severely diminished by these fundamental lack of options.
I still maintain that Matt3o has set the bar this year 2013 as the most decent Group Buy by far. Not taking away anything from Gupgup's first effort here which has been brilliant thus far. ;D

While that *was* the plan, as it turns out everyone who ordered RainDrop will be getting at least two space bars. A white one with the alpha set, and another white one or a blue one with their mods. Wasn't planned that way, just how it turned out when I placed the order. :-/

lol I think it's still really nice, but I think I still prefer the conventional mod color layout. Kind of like blue esc, white F1-F4, blue F5-F8, white F9-F12, blue print screen/scroll lock/pause break, white spacebar..... etc. Having blue all around in a circle felt a bit too busy but like Elrick said it's still an amazing group buy though don't get me wrong.

Actually, we didn't find this out until after the GB was closed, but the white base kit is going to come with those F1-F4, F9-F12, and spacebar, so you could have had just that. :)

If you use a credit/debit card, there is an additional processing fee (from CC processor). If you pay from a bank account/paypal balance, that fee doesn't happen as the transaction doesn't go through a third party.

It's not a mysterious key, but rather a set of keycaps for the GB organizer.
It's fairly common in community group buys for the organizer to pad the invoice by a small amount, so that the organizer gets a set of keycaps for free, paid for by the participants, for the effort of organizing the GB.
I wouldn't think even the thriftiest of us would have a problem with providing that for Gupgup.
I'll see if the organizers can ship it in a bubble mailer and if not I guess I'll just have to buy one in the classifieds.

And I don't think managing group buys is a worth wile side-job. TJ and Gupgup would be better off, if they worked the same hours at McDonalds. They do it because they have a passion for keyboards and not for profit...

As long as the amount is reasonable i don't care. It is a lot of work to read all those pm's changes, talk to sp etc. and i wouldn't do it only if nobody other would do it and i wanna have that special set.
You still have to package it, print the lables, replace sets or resend keys.
If you think this is a great way to earn money, just do it, it will only extend the range of sets. The risk and work and so on will be still on your side.

I agree with Lechner, there should be no fixed rules as to how much a GB leader is compensated. As for stating what the amount will be at the beginning of the GB, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Let's say I run a GB, I might decide at the very end to tack on whatever I thought would be a fair compensation (enough to cover a free set for me, $500, whatever) and then divide it up amongst the orders. I think it's very likely that after the effort of organizing the GB I would want more, after having to wipe so many socialist backsides.
And really, was anyone 'surprised' by a $2 additional charge? Holy crap, I guess I'm eating white rice and crackers for the foreseeable future. If and unannounced $2 charge on a bill sends you reeling from your computer and ricocheting off the floor, find a new hobby. And yes, other culture's are worthy of consideration, including our own! If soulfree comes from a keyboard community that has outlawed groupbuy leaders from making a profit that's fine, but here at geekhack I don't think it should be a requirement. To me it seems like groupbuy organizers are required to scrape and bow to this idea that non-profitability is a virtue. In my mind (my culture) it's not a virtue. Groupbuy organizers should realize a profit as they define it. If they want to be altruististic non-profits, fine, but there's a subtle tyranny at play here that irks people.

I've seen guys get a free set or two for running a GB..but isn't this a bit too much? Don't get me wrong; I appreciate everything that you guys are doing here.
Just a bit worried that folks will start thinking this is a worthwhile side-job to do. How about we limit it to roughly two full sets (~$150) per person? I've dealt with soulfree, and I can assure you what jd says is true. He didn't mean anything negative.
But then I saw how many orders there were and as you multiply that number by $4, it became a big number although maybe still not that huge of an amount. So I thought if this becomes a trend in GH, where folks keep increase the gift little by little, it can become out of control and all that extra cost falls down to the newbies that want keycaps badly and the group buy leaders that can charge however much they want for their effort.

Got my invoice, will be paying on Apr 26. Can't wait to put these great looking keys on my new keyboard! Only recently got my first mechanical keyboard, good timing with this GB.

Maybe we just can't co-exist here. U definitely think making as much money as u want on these group buys is OK. I think the opposite: the leader should be compensated for his time but there should be a limit to that (or at least a rule of thumb) since the keycaps don't become a value-added product or service by going through the leader. It's simply a "GROUP BUY", nothing more, nothing less. Signature Plastics is doing the value-added work/business, not the group buy leaders, to make the raw material turn into nice looking keycaps. If you are running a retail shop with keycaps, who cares how much u're earning? U're providing an official sales channel. But the concept of a group buy should be distinguished from simple vendors & business.
But maybe u'll take this wrong again and say that I'm lecturing u or something. So, I'm done here.

Is this argument still going? I could care less if I get keys or don't get keys. I like hosting group buys because it lets me interact with other people that love keyboards, as I've said plenty of times before, this is my favorite part about GH. I don't do a couple months of very enjoyable "work" to get free keys.
And also, with the money that people donated to my cause for running this group buy, I've put in an extra order of 40 GH key packs to randomly give to others that weren't able to participate in this group buy due to money situations (all the group buys that have been going on).

I can write a whole new article about what can happen (real stores, not my abstract opinion..) if group buys head in that direction, Krogenar. There are also some real "side-job" cases and behind-the-scene stories that become really complex when the money gets big and tax issues come into play, mixed with quarrels among ppl. But I won't bring such things up here anymore. lol
Besides, there is no guarantee that things that had happened in some other community will happen the same here.
I do agree on your point that GH has been doing well so far with the current GB rules. And I certainly hope it stays that way since I like this hobby community much. Made great friends around GH and been enjoying being sort of like one of the evangelists of Korean custom keyboards.
Thanks folks for tolerating such an unexpected, heated discussion so far. I would like to return the favor by distributing some new keycaps back to GH through Boost. I cannot reveal the full details yet, but Boost will post them within a month or two. All I can say now is that I am working on two color schemes and one actually has a new custom color. There will be a limit to the quantity though due to several reasons.
Also, not sure if this will help anyone (maybe the ones who ordered the tsangan set?), but if possible, I would like to change/increase my order to:
16 base sets, 16 mod sets, 8 keypad sets, and 16 tsangan sets. (Btw, if anyone sees Tsangan, please ask him to contact me lol)

No worries, we've all been there. :))
Here's a quick overview:
1. At the payment deadline if everyone is paid we're good to go.
2. If we have a lot of outstanding payments, then we wait while the organizers go looking for deadbeats. ;)
3. Order is submitted and the collected money is paid to Signature Plastics
4. Signature Plastics puts us on their production schedule and they provide the organizers with an estimated ship date, this is rarely shared with the group because things change and there can sometimes be a delay
5. Once the production run is complete, they will ship the keys to one of the organizers.
6. The key caps come in bulk, so they will need to be sorted into sets and packaged, labeled and shipped
7. You receive your keys and verify that you received a complete order and that no keys were damaged, or missing.
8. The organizers will then wrap up the GB getting people replacements as needed.

About compatibility. I read that the Costar stabilizer inserts do not match exactly to SP key caps and people use workaround like plastic bag pieces to tighten them.No, there are only those inserts. It's a "problem" because the inserts are matched to OEM caps.
Can I buy the 'correct' type of inserts that would match well anywhere on the net? Or any more elegant solution?
Is this type of problem present because the keys are usually matched to Cherry stabilizers and those are thicker?

Sherry is selling full 110 key set that's made by GMK for $95. He's buying a huge quantity (I think 400 sets) instead of piggy backing off a GB and selling them cheaper (it's a preference thing, but IMO GMK caps are better than SP caps in quality). I also remember people *****ing about the $130 price that sherry was asking at first.
I also think it's interesting how it's ok for vendors to piggy back off of GB MoQs, but it's not ok for GBs to piggy back off of vendor MoQs (the whole BSP set situation)

Thank you Mashby for the clear explanation on why being in Group Buys really will pay dividends. The ONLY reason to be in Group Buys is to get the absolute lowest price out there for a brand new key-set.

Klaxon took ~ 20 hours to print shipping labels, print invoices, pack boxes and get to the post office, but this is smaller and I know what to do, so let's call that another 15 hours, which means I have a total of 26 hours 20 min left to be finished with these.
I want to reiterate that for those that don't think I give enough information. Twenty-six hours and twenty minutes of actual work time to go. Not only does this mean I still have a lot of work left, even after doing a majority of it already, this completely throws the "$20/hr" rate that was thrown out there into the biggest trash bin imaginable.
Including the work already done and even if I were seeing actual money from this (I'm not and half of that $4/person went to gupgup for his keys and his time), that means I'd be making about $5/hr when all is said and done.
Again, to reiterate, most of that $300 or whatever my share turned out to be was spent on shipping supplies. Labels, baggies and printer toner alone cost $170. So for giggles, let's say I did see the $130 extra go into my coffers, that means I did effectively a week and a half's work for $130 or $2.17/hr.

If you're going to call people names, get your facts straight. I wouldn't exactly say it's for free. There was a $4 fee on top of each order. There is about 160 orders, so a little over $600 right there. Gupgup threw the GB over the TJ, so I don't think Gup deserves half of that amount. TJ should take all that for himself and maybe give Gupgup a set if he's still into mechanical keyboards.
So if he does this for an hour a day for a month that's about $20/hr. Not exactly bad for sorting key caps TBH.

Does the postage have tracking number? If yes do you share it? Depending who delivers it I have some bad experience with certain companies, regular post delivers everything fine but some courier companies are worse... they assume no one has a job and tend not to leave a note sometimes... real frustrating.

If you get two sets, plan on doing the same as you've proposed for your extra keycap. If I don't need them, you can sell them and either keep or donate the money to geekhackers.

USPS has no precise tracking outside of the U.S. It just shows the last point where the package was before it boarded a plane and flew out to foreign customs. It only tracks within the United States and sometimes when it's in the destination country. You may not see any updates at all until the package is delivered, or not even then. That's normal and most common with USPS 1st Class International "tracking".

Exactly. After it processes through the International Service Center (ISC), you have to check the customs number through your own country's postal service for any kind of updates after that. And sometimes, they never update anything until after the package is delivered.
I've finally stopped getting replies saying they have keys missing so soon.

My keys haven't made their way from my permanent address to my current address, so I haven't had a chance to check them for missing keys - you may get a late request for fulfilling missing keys from me, sometime after this coming weekend. Hopefully that doesn't create additional issues.
