Why hasn't anyone made this set already with GMK?
« on: Tue, 24 March 2020, 03:51:16 »
I was thinking about a GMK set lately that doesn't exist. Someone made a IC a while back for GMK key-caps that are just transparent.

It is possible claimed by GMK them self only problem was that there would be issues with swirls but that doesn't really matter if you only use it for lettering.

I am kinda surprised no one though about GMK transparent on black key-caps that let RGB/LED trough. I think that would look cool honestly. I think it would be dope to have high quality double shot light trough key-caps from GMK.

Have you looked at the back of a doubleshot keycap?  What you'll see is a grid pattern in the colour of the legend, similar to the pic below.  If the 'blue' bit was transparent you would see the grid and the legend would be unreadable against it, if the legend was transparent most of the back will be covered by the 'blue' so not much light would get through.

And just in case you were going to suggest it GMK keycaps are made of ABS so no, dye sublimation is not an option.

This is why no-one's done it.

Hmm I didn't think of it until suicidal orange mentioned... Maybe that's why they had pudding keycaps what top section are solid colors and the rest of the side walls are clear...

Tai Hao does something a little like this.  They have opaque keys with transparent lettering.
