Not trying to discourage, but fun fact, magnesium burns at ~5,000°F, and creates its own oxygen during combustion.  Water makes the fire worse.

Not trying to discourage, but fun fact, magnesium burns at ~5,000°F, and creates its own oxygen during combustion.  Water makes the fire worse.

Autoignition temperature is 473 °C (883 °F).  So it takes a bit of effort to get it burning.  But I believe its ability to burn efficiently has something to do with material thickness and exposed surface area.  Usually when you see magnesium burning experiments it's done with thin strips or ribbon.  The magnesium in fire starters is always shaved off of a much larger piece.

Hate buying from actual manufacturers without appropriate model numbers being applied because it usually becomes a "guess what's in the box type purchase", especially when it comes to these type of price tags.

Yep. Mg shavings make great fire starters. You can buy bags of it on eBay.

It is terrible to mill. I've never tried it, but if you look at CNC forums, you'll find threads about people destroying mills by getting magnesium a bit too hot...
