Yeah, I guess Dan was a special case. He got the springs and stickers before anyone else could, also.
Supposedly he got his first because of his self imposed ban, not really sure why that makes it necessary though. Not like his address was going to change or being forced out of a shipping area or anything.

I thought I got mine early because I ordered early, and additionally purchased some springs/stickers/rgb set, and asked for combined shipping even if it meant a delay for the springs and such *shrug*

So it's come to my attention that Originative is shipping sanc leftovers ordered from their website before us GB participants.

Where did you see that? Link?

I know of at least one person whom wasn't on the list but has posted pics of the set on their board. It wasn't the dyesub either.

Communication, wouldn't it be nice?

Cheers,
I definitely understand real life and delays getting in the way and appreciate all the time it takes to put together a GB of this scale but like OJ says a little communication would be nice. Thanks.

there was an update (general? It doesn't make any sense to me but whatever) on March 6.

Quote
Sorry for the past week.  I was very busy, and I had undergone many family problems.  In the past week, I had a meeting with some keycap businesses, picked up boxes from uline, and talked to some manufacturers.  Many good things coming soon.  Pushing all international shipment this week.  I am sorry for the delay, but the boxes was needed.  Priority mail was overpriced, and the prices are only increasing.

Remember, I am only one person!  I have to get friends (and family) to help set up the packages.

Orange Dolch will release on Monday.  PBT Dye Sublimation RGB with Esc will release this week.  Dolch will release in another 2-3+ weeks.

Is it possible to get a refund?  I feel like if I get this set I'm going to burn it.

Guys I understand your frustration, we've all been waiting a long time, but that's a little rude. I'm not saying you shouldn't express your discontent, but you could at least try to be civil about it. Hurting his feelings isn't going to make him move any faster.

Exactly Niko. Politeness costs nothing.

On the flipside, I'm sure a regular status update (at least twice a week) would be much appreciated by most of us. It doesn't have to be a novel, even something quick like "did more sorting, did more packing, 45/150 posted" is immensely better than silence.

You may not offended by the lack of professionalism, but I am. I didn't say "1-2 weeks" for shipping almost 3 weeks ago, he did:

Sherryton,  Received my two sets today.
They look really good.  Very happy how these turned out.  Thanks!

What's your plan for missing keys?
One of my sets is missing an F5 key. Also 3 iso singles I got seem to be all row 4.  Shouldn't they be 1 x Row3 & 2 x Row4?  Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks again.

I'm a little confused.  Let me check back with you.  Is your set really missing a F5?  I checked these all twice :(

I'll shoot you a PM!

Also, I put up an update. http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=40315.0

All keysets are going out in the next 2 weeks.  I might have to change all International orders to First Class because of the increase in shipping.  If you guys want a small flat rate, then please also shoot me a PM!

Without any explanation as to why there has been a futher delay, nor what the current status is of GB orders. Additionally, it is a fact that leftovers have been received before even the GB sets were all shipped. This is the reality and it is an affront to those of us who participated in the GB.

These are my personal feelings given the facts of the last two months. I don't feel like I was "rude" given the circumstances.

To give an update from a "customer", my keycaps came in earlier this week. I'm in the US though, maybe the delay is with international orders? I know international prices went up not too long ago, maybe that's playing into the delay? I received an email a couple days before they shipped, so that's something to look out for I suppose.

Neither do updates. Shipping leftovers before GB sets isn't polite either and not explaining why it is done makes people angry.

Maybe he has to sell extras to make profit to pay for the additional shipping costs of international orders. Or he could just ask everyone international for more money. Which would you prefer?

While it isn't his fault shipping prices went up, he should probably also give some updates.

afaik He did increase the shipping costs for international orders. Can someone confirm?

I'm not going to speculate about what's going on. I'm a little too pissed for anything other than a long, honest update from the organizer explaining exactly what's happened over the last 3 weeks. But if/when I do get the keysets I ordered, I for damn sure am never buying something from Originative if this is how things are going to be done.

Cheers,

I thought there was an update where he said that new boxes had to be ordered because flat rate shipping is actually more expensive in most cases than custom boxes. This post was probably a general post in the originative vendor forum and should have been repeated here.

If international shipping has increased I wouldn't be opposed to paying more. The idea of a GB in a community is that the participants share part of the associated risk ( at least I would interpret it like this) as opposed to a business where the price is increased in order to cover the risks. Either way communication would resolve a lot of the anger issues. Posting updates which ignore the questions raised here does the opposite (correct me if I am wrong but he has updated his general vendor thread right?).

Part of what pisses me off is that we agreed to share the risks of a GB and pay up front and are rewarded with service which is worse then the service of those buying the leftovers without explanation as to why.

Yup. Pretty much sums it up. We dealt with what amounted to a shady character. I should have learned after seeing the debacle that was the KMAC 1 gb, but I figured that could have been different. Boy was I wrong. Shady then, shady now.

Thanks for the sage like advice. I did read it, I do wear glasses. My point went beyond that. It was intended to imply that the communication is not just a matter of appreciation from our side, it is also very VERY impolite (understatement of the year). Maybe you should have read the rest of my post. But then again you probably did and just chose not to reference it in your post..... KINDA LIKE I DID. Either way I wasn't attacking your statement so you can chill out. I was simply saying that what sherry is doing is beyond impolite at this point. Especially since he IS on GH posting updates to his vendor thread and is apparently simply IGNORING us. And we have already paid.........rude doesn't begin to cover it.

An update isn't enough. I want a meaningful update with a breakdown of statistics and an explanation of what went wrong. Additionally I want to know why leftover sets are getting priority shipping over GB sets.

Cheers,
Probably because someone purchased a ton of stuff so why wouldn't you include their entire order when they purchase something. Honestly though he should have finished all the sanctuary shipping before launching originative. He sat on enough stock of everything for long enough a little more time wouldn't hurt. I think it was literally months that he had the springs, stickers, and maybe even the key pullers (he posted a teaser video at some point unboxing everything). Then at least a month that he had sanctuary and some of the GMK items before the originative launch.

I love ya dan, but you're wrong on the "huge" order thing. I know at least one person who didn't order much else besides the sanc set leftover. So your theory is just speculation. I'd much rather have it straight from the horse's mouth :-/

I do agree he tried to do way too many things at once. And you've only convinced me further he's simply a bad businessman and that I should never deal with him again.

Other GB take longer, 7bits for example has been runnning longer but the sets aren't even all produced yet. Duration is not the issue though. We all understand that often real life interferes with stuff like GBs and that is something we need to accept when participating. But it needs to be communicated. What pisses us of is that he is shipping leftovers before GB sets and not communicating AT ALL with us anymore. He updates his vendor thread, essentially telling us that his business is more important then the GB WHICH HAS ALREADY PAID HIM. This is simply unacceptable.

That's so messed up. So what is everyone planning to do? If this doesn't get resolve in a timely manner which hasn't seem to be I'm gonna call PayPal and get it refunded. And if we all do that then sherry will get stuck with 472892 sets. Maybe that'll make him rethink his priorities.. This is just getting outta control =\

I'm curious, if paypal does refund everyone (I'm not sure on the length of time allowed to pass before they will not), doesn't the person that started the group buy get stuck with the merchandise? Thus allowing them to set a price at whatever they like and selling it anyway? Although, he/she would have to pay out of pocket for all those cancelled orders. I'm not really seeing a 'bad' side for the creator/starter of this group buy besides the negative emails and messages they may receive. People will buy these extra sets regardless I'd think. So in a sense, should EVERYONE cancel their order, the creator essentially got temporary funds (someone said it's been like 6 months, so that's like...6 months to save up and cover initial costs) to fund this set. I dunno, like I said, curiosity and this is a very faith/trust based system.

I'm hoping not all of these group buys are so chaotic though. I'm still new to this site and do not know all the bells and whistles concerning these group events. I also see many items I would like to be involved with and buy in the future. So I hope this pans out for everyone  here.

You have 45 days to file a dispute with Paypal.

The person who received the funds has up to 60 days from receipt of payment to issue refunds.

I received my GB set already, so at least some have shipped. :(

Yeah, I figured there was a small window (in comparison to length of time it seems to take to distribute these) to file.

We can't dispute. You have 90 days if you did goods like I did or something like that.

All we can do is basically qq until we get some form of update, or we just assume we've been screwed and then exact revenge in some other way on the forum.

It's too late to get refunds, but if enough people dispute it, PayPal still investigates it and potentially freezes his account. I'm not disputing it or anything, just saying. An update would be nice indeed..

isn't it already frozen, because he did gift payments with a business account

it's not only the delayed shipping and lack of updates.
He is claiming one lysol gmk GB favourite after the other without even having finished this one.

I noticed this too. He's seems to be derailing interest checks for gmk caps when he himself is no where near ready. I think he mentioned he is to supply the KBD builders in South Korea stock of his GMK caps but it looks like they haven't received theirs either, lol

As said before, I find it bizarre that the leftover set were put up on Originativeco before all of the original GB sets were shipped out.

But hey, as long as original GB sets were/will be fulfilled, then I don't really see a major issue in a timley matter. With that being said, I still haven't received my set (nor a shipping/tracking notification) despite sherryton saying that all of the sets will be shipped out by the week of March 4th.

I second this observation.

I just want to get mine so I can sell it, cause I don't even have a spare keyboard to put the set on anymore.
I hate how the money from it has been tied up for so long.  :(
