DCS Vert

Story&Concept
More
Imagine reading in the 21st century -_-.
I was in Discord with my friend, and we were just chilling, talking to one another, until we had nothing to do. We sat there doing nothing listen to music bot "Rythm" (RIP) for like 30 minutes. One of my friends said "Let's make a keycap set, and see how far we can go. I don't think it's that hard to make a set. And let's compare your set to one another." So, I made this. I said to my friends "This will actually hits MOQ, if it is GB." They disagree with me, so we bet. One of my friends saw this clip of people doing a wax mold of their hands. So, if this set actually hits MOQ, they have to send me a wax mold of their pp. If it doesn't, I have to send them mine. Just a normal thing for us. (please help me t—t) You don't have to believe that this story is real, I might made this up.

I want to make a simple dark green set.

You guys who are worried if SP is actually going to make this or not. I've asked SP about the sublegends, and they said they are totally fine with those sublegends and they can make it.

This is an explanation of some of the sublegends that might confuse you. QOCK - If you put it in Google Translate, it sound like cock. (I cannot find a meme word that starts with Q.) EYES - refers to Simon's eyes, and also that E-Y-E-S joke. Juan - refers an image of a horse standing on a balcony. This is hilarious to me idk why. ZOOM - refers to Zoom Meeting related jokes. (I cannot find a meme word that starts with Z.)

About those red sublegends. My idea is that those sublegends says "GMK BAD BUT DCS GOOD", as I want to express that don't buy GMK their MOQ system is bad, their lead time is awful, they don't really care about customers. I wanted to make them pad printed because eventually they'll wear out = by the time they wear out, that's the time I hope GMK is good again.

10u Kit

Renders by Izeri
Considering the first idea of this set has a sublegends, Izeri cannot use Fooblitzky's DCS models for all of the caps.
So, Izeri mixed KRK & Fooblitzky's DCS models together to make renders for this set.

As you can see the color of this set is really similar to GMK Taiga. I've asked the designer GMK Taiga (Oggi)
if it is fine for me to use this color scheme, and he said yes.

Deskmats
More
No. We already have enough deskmats, find one or make it yourself.

Q&A
More
What's up with the name
DCS Vert = DCS is DCS Profile & Vert is green in French. Why French? idk it just sounds good. French is sexy.

Why DCS?
I love DCS. It's good.

Can we have pics after GB?
NOOO.

Collab?
No, sorry. I’ve contacted some designers to collab with them, but as I think more about it. I decide not to do any collaboration as this is my first big project, I am trying to make things simple, so it can go as smooth as possible.

I might be legally too old to buy the novelty alphas, but I like the base set and will buy.

Some day I hope people will add windowed keys back in. Maybe they'll be useless when Caps Lock isn't a thing or indicator LEDs are built into every  Case/PCB.

There's actually been a decent uptick in Windowed inclusions & Relegendable kits from some of the bigger manu's throughout the past year or so.
I mean; I'll always accept more of either with open arms, but since The Times are what they are with raw-materials at the moment, we might be in for quite a sizeable wait until the majority of these sets are actually fulfilled & build porn is passed around the community before we start seeing wider interest & demand...
*(which I can totally see being revived into the Big Kitting Fad of 2029, once the Instagrammers & r/MKers catch wind of these "new" GMK Novs they can justify their Trance-Rave underglow builds with)

Even SP's non-SA queue is starting to flex from the weight of influx orders - and they have tooling for some of the more interesting & throwback window-styles, and for multiple profiles.
ePBT is another one without the risk of having a GrayMK-beard by delivery. Buuut then again, when I stop and remember that KBDfans seems to add 30 new ePBT IC's every 12-hours, they might not be the best way to scratch an itch, either...  :'(

unless something has changed recently they have molds for offset and centered 6u, but it is expensive and not many people need it

Ahh, good to know. I know DSS had a 6u option, but I was under the impression other profiles did not. Regardless, I understand why they would be excluded, just wish it weren't so. A uniform dark green is an elusive kit.

SP DCS 6u Bars are not standard 6u spacing. I have confirmed with Melissa at SP that they only have one option for 6u which is centered and the posts on the end are only compatible with some vintage boards, POS boards and the razer black widow.  You can see 6u gmk on the left vs 6u DCS on the right here: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/897835673518747698/898004759842279444/20211013_202542.jpg

I'm hoping then they redo the small bars to be convex, they redo the 6u mold as well.

That'd be ideal.

I know DSS has a standard 6u centered bar, which was encouraging to hear. They just ran a set with Sencillo and first 6u bars were pos DSA before they remade them as DSS 6uC.

i think they had offset in a different profile maybe? i've definitely seen it offered before but maybe not in DCS

Way better texture, thinner than gmk but refreshing sound.

and ofc what BasedCopper said is in the "Why?" section of https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=116286.0
Code: [Select]
Why

DCS: Aside from the relatively short lead times, I genuinely love the profile and typing feel of these keycaps. For those who are still stuck on the mindset that thin keycaps are inherently bad, I would argue that's only the case when it's paired with the low quality materials and OEM-tier manufacturing processes those are typically made with. The thinness of ABS DCS attributes to less dampening of switch feedback, even going as far as making tactiles feel more tactile due to this effect. Moreover the unique "chirpy" / thin sound profile, albeit polarising, further adds to what makes me and many others love it.

ABS: Not only is DCS PBT far more expensive than ABS DCS and thicker (thus losing a part of what I love about thin DCS), it's also just not possible for this design due to the white on pink keycaps as they require reverse dye-sublimation; which Signature Plastics can't do as of yet.

Wyse Legends: I personally enjoy the unique aesthetic this font provides and think it works well with the profile. I understand there are those who may prefer I use Cherry legends but this will not be a possibility for this set. If this is a dealbreaker for you, there are plenty of other wonderful sets that make use of great pastel pinks  ;D

seconding this

thickness does not always equal quality despite what some may tell you

the current schedule is the end of march.
regarding color matching, this set uses the same green color as SA Skyriter. i'll ask SP to send us what they already have, and i’ll send it to Nebulant for him to do his science thing. if it comes out good, i’ll use it. if not, i’ll request a new attempt from them. this is my plan, but i'm still waiting for a response. it sounds like they are going to put off working on that until it's a little closer to production.

unfortunately, i have no updates as of now. we'll keep asking SP every few days until we do. :(
on another note, dcs vert will use the thinner " " key.
