That's not always necessarily true. Audience plays a factor. But then knowing your audience comes into play as well.
Hmmm there was a time when Halverson would try and convince me of the mechanical keyboard ways and I thought it was sooo stupid. But he pestered me long enough over and over until one day I just thought to myself "Hey I have a little extra money right now" and bought one. I was the wrong audience at one point and ever since that day I have never had "a little extra money"

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. ... you can think of something to post in a thread with the title like: you know you are a geek when ...

really? i guess it's one of those urban myths then..

Although I don't find it impossible that an aluminum bat could deflect bullets.  I guess since they're mostly hollow, it probably wouldn't..

it just has to be thick enough... and you have to be very precise about hitting the bullet with the bat

you need to get the bat blessed by a shinto priest for +50% critical ...  that should improve your odds of deflecting the bullet.

I name my servers after Quake 3 characters...

When you name name our computer after a realm from a fantasy series and have your hard drives named after cities in said realm.  Especially when you take the time to correlate they type, layout, and easy of entrance to the city to correspond to specs on the different hard drives.  My large raptor drive is Ched Nesad, my small raptor is Menzoberranzan, and my large storage drive is Mithril Hall.

I name mine based on the periodic table.

I name my servers after Quake 3 characters...

I name mine based on the periodic table.
i named myself based on mendeleev's table
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

...you start an online community, primarily dedicated to computer keyboards.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

in the age of Windows 8 and touch screen devices you can still navigate windows 3.11 without a mouse with 100% confidence.  That was on my parents first computer and the mouse cord got yanked hard enough to rip pads of the mobo for the mouse connector so my brother and I got a crash course in keyboard shortcuts.  Sorry don't have much dos experience

You have more computer/electronics parts than car parts.

I am clearly NOT a geek then.  My storage locker is about 45% tools, 45% car parts, and 10% other stuff.

Don't worry it isn't a requirement just a possible indicator.

I've got some Windows 3.1 machines still running, hooked up to the Internet.

I felt like this when I was surfing using my old Motorola PowerMac running Max OS 5 or 6 or something and Internet Explorer 3 or something.

Power Macs don't have Motorola chips. They have PowerPC chips in them. And System 5 and 6 are not capable of running on PowerPC hardware. Those are designed for the 68k's.

When you're at the gym and instead of checking out girls, grunting, and listening to music that pumps you up, you stare at the weld joints in the machines and say, "**** thats ugly, I could make a better bead".

You're on the freeway, see a green Mustang braking in front of you, and think of Mr. Friday.
