UPDATE: Added tested DSA profile Spacebar as well. Have fun folks!

Since we now have the MX Sliders available for everything other than the Topre Spacebar Stabilizers available commercially, we need more options for various keycap profiles on the HHKB/RF/FC660c.
Designed to be printed on Most FDM 3D Printers (no high end services needed)
Plan on seeing a DSA soon as well.

How does it feel?

How does it feel?
Sanded and acetone polished, feels like Thick ABS because well, it is! I used some 450 grit sandpaper to give the matte finish you feel on most ABS.
I made it a bit thicker up top to make it more stable. It's super rigid!

Pretty neat. But I uploaded this to shapeways to see how much it'd cost in their various materials and I got the following error message: "Printability Errors: Model is not manifold. Model failed during repair." Not familiar with this kind of stuff so do you know what that means?

Some services have specific requirements. I can tell you it works fine in Cura, MatterControl, and Simplify 3D as well as every viewer I have. So printability should be good.
Sometimes, they like their meshes more nicely organized or don't like OBJ -STL conversions and there are online tools that do this : https://service.netfabb.com/login.php
tools3d.azurewebsites.net
https://makeprintable.com
This should work great in an SLA printer like from Shapeways or Ponoko, but you can also price on 3Dhubs as well.

Thanks a bunch, netfabb did the trick.

Glad to hear it! BTW - what did the price come out to be? There is someone selling essentially the same thing on Shapeways for $12-13 each. I just have a nice 3D printer and wanted to use my own and some crazier materials.
-
Came out to $11.24 for their basic white Strong and Flexible plastic, so a bit cheaper than the $13 that other one goes for. But this seems to be higher quality, as apparently the other one needs longer stems and could benefit from using more material. And as you mentioned you can do with this one as you please materials-wise.
-
Yeah, I printed another one in a Metal-fil filament and almost done finishing it as well as painting one with Dark-grey holographic Glitter (which looks pretty sick). Planning on printing one in Bamboo and finishing with some stain. Also, was considering milling some molds for these.

This is with an aluminum-fill ABS that has been polished to a perfect shine, you can see the print lines from the metal deposits so its all shiny! Looks wicked and even better in real life as the shine shifts as you look around it.

Damn :) I've read of acetone vapor bathing but not of acetone polishing interesting

Yeah, just use a natural bristle brush to liberally brush on acetone and you will get similar results to acetone vapor or using something like E3D.
The metal fill one shown was sanded down all the way to 440grit, acetone, and then Novus 3 and Novus 2 plastic polishes.
You can use the micromesh for polishing plastic, but liquid is easier for non-flat surfaces.

Nice! I know Idea23 (/u/busgamer7394) is also casting some SA profile Topre spacebars as well.
Thank you!

Yeah, you can check it out here (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/6fx9or/tired_of_all_the_topre_spacebars_on_boards_with/).

nice, i have printed one. thx.
btw any progress for dsa?
-
DSA is now posted. Completely forgot about this and i apologize!
-
Cool! I think a lower profile spacebar could be really nice. Somewhat similar feeling to a flipped spacebar maybe?
-
Did you literally just tweak my existing DSA and SA models to have Topre mounts and upload them as your own?

I mean how hard is it to just mark it as a derivative
-
So is this not available anymore? :( The link pulls up a 404 error
-
I too would love it if someone can send the original files over

Removed for inability to follow copyright terms or even attribute derivatives

there is still this for SA topre spacebar http://shpws.me/Mnfp (http://shpws.me/Mnfp)
