Have been thinking about the Planck add-on of the Borealis key set also.
Ideally of course is to also have the base set but then only the alpha keys will be used with a spending of another $90... So I'm still thinking.

Nice board! How does it feel as compared to a normally staggered keyboard?
It's better as its symmetrical , but still feel cramped.

I don't have a Planck yet, but planning to have at least 1 (or even 2 one for Alps, one for MX).
How can one feels cramped on a Planck? Because it's homing keys are separated by the same distance as in a normal full-size keyboard.
Or is it the mods are 1u small or that is a bit psychological / perceptual effect?

Wanna get a Dasher/Dancer modifier set together? Maybe I can even proxy it to you :p

... Wanna get a Dasher/Dancer modifier set together? Maybe I can even proxy it to you :p

I stared at the Dasher & Dancer set massdrop for quite a while mesmerized by its simplistic beauty and its blue color also matches the blue theme of the 40% that I want to build...
But I came to my senses quite quickly: Dasher & Dancer is going to be here at the earliest Q3 2017, and I'm already plotting to get another SA set: DT Round 7 for a 'gigantic' ortholinear board.

On the other hand, Borealis is real - it will be shipped within a month and it's blue also and even GiD. :D

My main keyboard is a poker 2 and when I switched to the Planck it had a small learning curve. You get used to reaching for certain keys which when using the Planck is the wrong key. After a full day of use though you get the hang of it. I have big hands so it feels a bit cramped when I switch back to it from the poker but I forget about it after a few minutes. Thinking about another Planck but this time building it myself and maybe my browns.

I was looking at the dasher/dancer keys but decided I'd rather finish getting the few parts needed to finish an ergodox build.

For the base set of the borealis keys, I thought about it but $90 for the alpha keys isn't worth it just yet imo. I'd really like to get a carbon set eventually for it.

$22+shipping isn't a bad price. Plus the cherry set was $10 so I couldn't pass them up. Haha

A JD40 & a Minorca, my first hand wired. I'm still not very good at scrounging keycaps to fit them but they type just fine.  ;)

Both have Gateron reds.

O key stem was broken :\

This is precisely why I get nervous considering a Lightcycle Alps set.  The argument is "well how often do you change keycaps?"  All it takes is a single  stem breaking and it's like someone backed into your new car.

Nopeee~ No programming here-- I'm an immigration attorney in the states so mostly word processing  :))

Heres my current layout (still a WIP) -- I used one that someone had shared over on the JD45 thread to test it out, and liked it!

The JD40 is great but it doesn't work with dvorak so I made my own 42%.  :thumb:

I'd love to see it next to a JD40 at some point!

Are you interested in making one of these for me-- I already have switches, keycaps and USB cable (I'd need the stabilizers). This is just the sort of rig I need, a 40% that's Dvorak compliant. In fact if you make it an ortholinear PCB that would be even better.

I don't have any extra PCBs but my friend who built one may want to sell it. There will never be an ortholinear MA42 unless someone else decides to design one, I've never been a fan of non staggered boards.

If you're interested in the layout I have a second board (MA52) that I should be making later this year.

Cool! Sorry, just seeing this now. Let me know, otherwise I'll just get a Planck kit. I'm not sold on the ortholinear layout, but Dvorak is indeed crucial for me.

Good one with the "number row", haha.

By the way, we can nix my interest in your friend's Dvorak board: I just discovered the JD45 layout and it's just perfect. The kit is available at Mechanicalkeyboards.com for $200.
