Color combo is so appealing, with a macro column as a bonus! Definitely interested. Just a small suggestion- location of name name is awkward imo, might look better aligned against the plate edge. Or move it to the bottom:I think aligned win the plate edge would look good. Not sure how I feel about the bottom.
Also, please make the pcb QMK compatible.

3 main questions:
- MAO. Can we have it WHITE or eventually a dark purple? (both are very popular colors when offered). I'm searching for a nice keeb with MAO White for a while now.
- Brass weight engraving. I'm not really into that elephant (yeah i know is the name of the keeb, but still...), reminds me of the Gradle elephant. Would it be possible to have it BLANK or custom engraved (for extra money maybe?).
- Not really much important but nice: Type-C?

Honestly Gold/Yellow or rose gold (since someone mentioned it) is not good if these colors excludes other popular colors. Even if someone requests it, these colors never ends up to be a popular choice in a GB. Light green is unique (we don't see this color usually) so it might actually work even tho is not a top choice (popular choices are silver/black/dark grey).
I'm not sure what colors you can do, but I suggest to go for MAO Purple/Dark Purple (not magenta pls!). Every set around or incoming is purple, too hot right now to skip it.
MAO white is another one you might consider since you are not offering the silver version and many sets have white/light alphas and mao white is rare, so it's another color that might end up to be popular.

This might come off weird, but silver is a very standard color. What really impressed me with your design and color choices is that it all stands out, and I feel that having silver as one of the options takes away from that big draw. With that in mind my personal suggestion for colors would be:
Navy Blue
MAO White
Lime Green
Pastel Blue
I know there are two blues in there, but the logic being one more standard fare color with hue to it, and 3 kinda more playful "fun" pastel colors. Though I do get the feeling a lot of people will not necessarily agree with that color list.

You're right, a lot of people won't agree with that list. But you know what a lot of people will like? Silver. you need standard color options to run a succesful GB IMO. in addition weird colous are harder to anodize well. Also I don't think you read the thread well because MAO and Navy blue are already both going to be options. Light green too.

I like it, as long as it's customize-able. Maybe move it slightly down and to the left (ie. give a bit more room between the nametag and the top, and line up the right side with the far right keys)

It's like a 60's baby blue. It's from the Norbauer Realforce case drop. I think it just fits so well into the design of your board, it's just perfect for it.

I would cut it off. The overall board look is so perfectly clean, don't ruin the aesthetics by putting a tag on the top.

I think the point is that MAO (the technique) will not produce a pure white color as seen in OPs MAO (what he incorrectly refers to as a color) render. It is the closest you can get to white, but it still does have a grey tint to it, and depending on the quality of the factory/their MAO process, this can range to barely noticeable grey to a more pronounced gray. Unless the OP and his factory have found or improved on the MAO process, I think it's very misleading to show a pure white case in his render.I think Mao is little grey not like silver

For those of us that know MAO does not produce a pure white, this is not a big deal. However, I can imagine new enthusiasts in our hobby to be led to believe that they will receive a pure white case as per the render.

No offense, but I think you went with the easiest option, something you know that can't really be screwed up by the factory. Mao can't be screwed up, because there is no standard expectation for mao. The only way mao could be screwed up is if it came out black or another pigmented color. I feel that by not getting it anodized and then promising 95% similarity (what does this even mean? 95% on what scale of measure?) is a shady way to get everyone on board only for them to be disappointed me they receive their boards.
Good luck with everything, I was excited for this, but I'm definitely sitting it out now.

I agree, purple can go a hell of different ways, mao is mao.
I guess I’ll just wait out until the GB opens to see if it’s dark enough to match phantom, if not, I’ll just wait out for another board with a dark purple.

I disagree with you. Whether he went with Mao because some people (me included) asked for it or because he wanted it, is no reason to call it the easy choice.
I do agree on the fact that, in a perfect world, every color should be shown before the GB, and he will do that on Alu sampler as he said it. I actually wanted to see Mao because the render in the OP showed a white board, like, way too white to be Mao, but I had a hard time picturing the board in Mao. I would have been fine with any board color for the prototype, of course, as I'm more hyped by the layout than the colors themselves, but my first choice when ordering would be Mao and my lack of imagination is really grateful he picked that one.
Hopefully you'll change your mind and still join when this launches :-)

Calm down? It could just be me, but I don't particularly see anyone in here getting overtly worked up for there to be a need 5o calm do2n. We're having what I think to be a very healthy discussion regarding an integral component of design for this case a la anodization/mao.
You do raise a valid point about anodization chip (or rods) samples being provided at a later date. I understand that it's not financially advisable for all color samples to be provided on a prototype, nor do I expect it. But seeing samples on a chip/rod may only speak towards color accuracy, and even then the color will likely come out slightly different on the case. What the chip/rod sample does not speak towards is anodization quality on a final production case, which is much more complicated than a simple chip/rod. By quality I mean things like streaking, visual surface smoothness, color variation from one part of the case to another, etc.
As this is an IC, I think these discussions are very instructive towards the development and soon approaching GB.

I guess I’ll just wait out until the GB opens to see if it’s dark enough to match phantom, if not, I’ll just wait out for another board with a dark purple.

From the looks of the plate no.My 0.02: Material and thickness of plate and anchoring to the case make infinitely more difference to switch feel than switch cutouts. Once the switch is soldered in, it is not moving location. If you're switch has wobble, then it wobbles. Plate does not fix nor change switch wobble.

It should not cause to move side to side any more than a normal switch plate.

The top and bottom third ish of the sides of the cutout are widened to allow for a tool to be inserted to remove the switchtop. But that still means that the switch itself is constrained in both the x and y axes along two lines, leaving it fully constrained the same way that a normal plate is. Unless I'm missing something there should be no difference between the two from that perspective

Wobble or crocked switches may depend from other reasons:
- Holes for switches too big.
- Multiple layers. More layer are supported, more the plate is a ****ty cheese plate.
- Plate mounted instead of pcb mounted (which is ok because many switches doesn't have the pcb mount version)
Since there is more space between the switch and plate to allow switch top opening the more chance of the switch to move to one side. Thus, causing a crooked switch.
This means you have to be extra careful versus a a plate with no switch top opening. So it is an extra hassle for me at least. I just find building with plates with no support for switch top removal easier.
I also used "wobble" in the wrong way. Thus, the misinterpretations. :)
That's wrong, you simply had a plate with holes bigger than the size of the switches (e.g. maybe its a kbdfans plate) and this is one of the cases listed above where a switch might crook a bit.
To reinforce this, I have right here 2 unused plates with switch top removal and a plate with normal holes:
- The one with normal holes is the only one where the switches can move a bit (not much) and this is simply because the dimension of the holes on this plate were made slightly bigger than what should be.
- The 2 plates with switch top open were made tight and the switch can't be moved in any way.
Just an example to let you understand that the switch doesn't move because of the switch-top removal feature, but just because the the red lines on the PhantomTaco photo are larger on your plate.

I did not mean to spark such a debate haha; it's just that I have no (de)soldering equipment but I want to lube the switches I will put in there and that would have saved me the hassle of sending it back to my budy, who does that soldering part, for him to lube the switches.
If this is not supported, no problem, I will live without :D
Yeah the switch top feature it's pretty good. A good standard to have nowdays with basically no negative side

Personally, as much as I’m a fan of weird, large-bezel ~65% keyboards as a genre, I do find the original to be a little underdesigned. I like the concept of curving the profile of the case, but something about the way it’s applied to the front seems sort of arbitrary or half-hearted, maybe—it doesn’t do enough to refine the aesthetics of what’s otherwise kind of an inelegant slab of aluminium (not that chunky slabs can’t have charm in their own way).
On the other hand, I’ve no industrial design expertise so that’s just armchair criticism, and judging by the discussion on colours and plate stuff there are a fair number of people who are into it.

Haha touché. I unfortunately didn't do it, it's a friend that does renders for me. That said he is busy with exams right now, so not sure he can get it done soon-ish.

I know I'm a little late to the party (haven't checked up on this IC in a bit) but I agree with the others, the first design is what had me sold and it really set's itself apart from other boards in terms of design. Sad to say but I'd be out if the second design was chosen. On a positive note although purple/magenta isn't my thing, the photos from the anno'd prototype look amazing.

I know it's a trending aesthetic these days but I'm not a fan of blockers personally. In regards to the side bezels, I believe the heft really adds to the overall look and that slimming it down would not do the board justice. In general I find your first prototype to be perfect and would jump into a group buy immediately for that design.

Maybe it was late in the night for me but I didn't notice the revised design appeared slightly shaved off on the sides. Looking back at the prototype I can now spot that it does actually appear a bit more wider and I'm in agreement; I think the original design without name badge and blocker with it's proportions, as it materialised in the prototype, were already perfect as they were.
