What's up!!
« on: Mon, 13 July 2015, 11:56:56 »
What's up guys. Just thought i'd show myself around.
I found the mechanical keyboard world when i decided that learning touch typing will make my job easier. Long story short, i went head first and bought my first mechanical. HHKB! Go big or go home!
Right now i can touch type Dvorak at about 40 wpm. Nothing to brag about, but considering where i came from....
I then got my youngest daughter a WASD ten keyless. It's OK. She picked her own key cap design.
Then i got the bug, i want to customize! So i got a Pok3r from Massdrop. White on white with MX Blues! Omg. The clicks and clacks. Love it. But it just made me love my HHKB even more.  And just had to get the Granite set as to show off my Dvorak setup. That too was from Massdrop. Still waiting on that order.
So, what's next?
Fully programmable on the HHKB.
Well, nice to meet you all.
I guess i'm one of you!

Hey man, welcome to GH (high five!)

I'm a new member as well, and looks like we're on the same boat.

I've had my HHKB JP for a couple of months now, andd yes converting HHKB to be fully programmable is also in my agenda.

Check https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=12047.0

and

for an alternative controller for the HHKB  ;D

Thanks! Those links are exactly what got me hooked into making it programmable.
I heard if we chose to go with the Teensy, that there is a way to install a usb hub into the board to get on "board" storage. The idea sounds awesome, but nervous about messing up my board!

Welcome to Geekhack!

There's a lot you can do with an HHKB, although most people don't as it is a lot of money should something happen to go wrong.  I'm keeping mine stock, apart from changing a few keycaps from time to time.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Doesn't seem to be having the desired effect.
