There are so many unnecessary keys in the base kit.
13 novelty keys, 2 scroll locks, 4 different caps lock/control keys, 2 iso enters, 00 key.
It may not sound that bad, but when you count all of them together it's quite a lot of keys that increase the. 'base' price.
I really want to get this set, but I'm not at all confident it will hit MOQ with such an expensive base kit. Modern dolch was just $145 and it sold really well, even carbon on massdrop is having a tough time at $169.

Samples won't get made until the order is submitted, but rest assured I wouldn't approve a sample until I'm 100% happy with it.
So does one need the pocket kit and spacebars kit to cover 2x2u spacebars? It looks like there's only one 2u in the spacebars kit, or possibly that the 2.25u is missing.
Yes you'd need both kits. Thanks for pointing this out, the spacebar kit render does appear to be incorrect, we've requested a new one from GMK. It should have 1 each of 2u, 2.25u and 2.75u.

Every time I see people buying 4+ sets for reselling purpose, I always feel so glad :). As long as they help us to achieve the MOQ and unlock the next price tier, I don't see that being any different than what a vendor would do. We need more of those guys in our community to help bring costs down for real, especially with all the price increasing trend with both SP and GMK :))

Right? If it's a limited number of sets available, then that would be a different story. But since these are all pre-production, the more number of sets get ordered, the better the price would be available for all of us. So hell yes, if anyone is interested in picking up 50 sets for flipping purpose, but all mean, help yourself out lol

Thanks guys I appreciate the support. I think we're around 70 base sold, which is behind where we'd like to be at this point tbh, but not dead in the water. I'll get solid figures off Jason probably after the weekend, he's crazy busy at the moment nevermind the fact that it's Thanksgiving.
In the meantime I advise everyone to take their Black Friday money and invest in this set instead of some unspectacular tech offer for some crap you don't really need that will only lose value anyway. :-*

I mentioned this in Discord, but I wonder if people are skeptical that this set will look good because of the low contrast between text and background on the mods in the renders. There is probably a non-trivial number of people who are relatively new to keyboards, for whom this would be a slam-dunk buy, but who don't have a good sense for how renders translate into ABS plastic, and are turned off by the contrast thing.
If people are worried about this I'd like to put their minds at rest. The mod colour is the trickiest to match to the Gameboy as it's based on the reflective screen surround rather than abs plastic like the rest of the colours, so I'll be erring on the side of legibility when approving that colour.

I know some of you have bought multiple sets as well so thank you all so much for going the extra mile. We're all stretching to help make this set a reality and it would be a real shame to fall just short. So yeah, anyone else still left on the fence about this, go get yourself a set before Friday. It's going to be a beautiful thing to have on your keyboard and if you don't get it now you'll either never get the chance, or you'll be paying a premium on r/MM. We can do it people!

So I'm like 80% going to buy this set (budget restrictions, and this set ain't cheap), but to make my decision more clear, could you please specify qualitatively what colors you are going for? I know you said you will send GMK a Gameboy to color-match, but since they come in different conditions and degrees of yellowing, I thought I'd ask. What I mean is, the renders show more "white" alphas than Gameboy DMG seems to be on google images. Are the alphas going to be lighter / darker / or about the same as your typical classic Cherry beige doubleshot alphas? Kind of cream beige or more toward gray? The schematic render calls them "gray", but they are clearly not neutral gray.
Also curious how the magenta will come out. Those magenta accents as well as the dark gray arrow cluster make up the majority of my interest in this set, but I'm still curious about the rest.
Sure. The Gameboy I've bought is in excellent condition and doesn't have any yellowing as far as I can tell. The outside of the case matches the inside of the battery compartment. I have another Gameboy which certainly has started to take on a little of that dingy DMG look and the one I've bought is noticeably brighter. Comparing directly here with my beige GMK under halogen lights, I'd say they're of fairly similar brightness but certainly less cream and more towards grey. I'd call it greige if I wasn't aware of how serious this stuff can get. I couldn't get a Pantone close enough that I was happy with for this colour, so I won't state one here. However I did find close matches for the magenta and purple, which were Pantone 235c and 2745c respectively. Huge caveat here of course as these were Pantones from colour cards, not from plastic chips, and they were compared to a plastic Gameboy, in a bright studio, and now anyone inclined to look them up will most likely be looking at varying results from a google search on whatever monitor they're using and however that's calibrated, etc, etc. Anyway, I hope that helps somewhat and, of course, I hope you join.

Oh good! The pocket kit was a little pricy so I didn't pick it up during the GB, but I've been sort of second-guessing myself since -- it's nice to know I might be able to grab it from a vendor later on.

There's been a few reasons, it was slow to get started and the initial samples were sent to Jason at TKC in Michigan instead of to me in London. Shipping this stuff around the world and back takes time. Once I received them from Jason, I deliberated for a little bit. I knew Jason was happy with all the colour matches and that changing anything would cause a delay to this already slow to get moving production. But I just couldn't say ok to the mod grey colour. It's a decent match to the Game Boy glass surround but like I said in the IC, I knew this would be the trickiest colour to get right, that there was some leeway with it because it was being matched to glass, and that I would lean towards legibility with it. I think the sample provided is a touch too dark and that both legend colours could look slightly murky on it. I don't want murky and I doubt anyone else does, so I've asked for another sample. Current ETA on that is a little under two weeks.
All the other colours are absolutely spot on. We asked GMK if they could go ahead and produce all the caps that don't require this mod colour, to minimise the delay, but they've said no. Anyway, if this new sample arrives when expected (shipping to me this time) and is good then the June delivery ETA Jason stated in his last post should still stand.

The dark grey mod color was my biggest concern with this set from the start, so I'm happy that you're aiming more towards legibility than a true color match.

You might just want to grab it now while extras are available, honestly. Most GMK sets never sell second hand at or below the original GB price, and this set didn't exactly blow by the MOQ so there's only going to be 300 or so sets out there in the world to begin with

Honestly not sure, this sample has taken a while. Hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow and we can get it confirmed. If that happens then I expect GMK will give us a new eta from then. As soon as I know, you'll know.

Ok. So the new sample arrived and unfortunately it's not an improvement on the old one. This does obviously mean a further delay. I've been talking to GMK today and we'll be ordering another sample asap and have been quoted a turnaround of three weeks for that. GMK are aware that the GB participants are waiting to get their hands on the set and we are working to get this to you as quickly as possible.No complaints here. The level of detail is worth the wait.

There's the final samples. Just a phone pic sorry. I'm inbetween cameras at the moment so my phone is all I have. That blue is looking a bit too blue and not enough purple in that pic, but in reality it has more purple for sure. All quite hard to capture faithfully as always but the proof will be in the pudding and I think the pudding will be really quite delicious.
I got this mail today from GMK:
"Scheduled Cargo ready date for DMG is August 14th. That´s the date we ship the sets to the vendors."
Also the bandolier art has been finalised and print approved.
Thanks everyone for being so patient, I think the set will be worth the wait and I hope you'll agree when it hits your doorsteps. Not too much longer now.

Yeah, I think it was a cool touch but does complicate things if you don't have a standard layout board. I had to rebind several of the keys on my TXCP (above) to make it work, but think it turned out fine.

Also going to join up now after seeing it in person at Norcal meetup. I wasn't that into the set at all from looking at existing pictures/renders but it was so spot-on perfect in color to the classic gameboy in person. The set is a lot warmer and somewhat darker on the mods than I thought. The grey is perfect.

Thanks for joining. Yeah there’s very few pics I’ve seen that manage to capture the set colours well. I’m glad people are seeing it out at meet-ups and getting won over.

I can't recall if the artisan was shipped separately in my order, but my order was one of the last ones to go out (I think it was delayed because of the artisan, but I can't remember for sure). Did you get a refund at least?

Corona basically added 2 to 4 months to most GMK ship dates. Sometime after June, I reckon. You'll get more frequent updates on their discord.

I would also be in on an R3. I missed out on R2 somehow and feel it went by to quick. They did a survey I believe on Instagram asking who would be interested in a R3, so I hope that means that it will happen soon.

R3!They're likely re-arranging some things, dropping base kit novelties. Omni pricing it at $125 means it'll have numpad and some other very normal keys for very normal layouts. Second base kit will just be weeb legends vs normal legends, I reckon.
