Inpiration

DCS ''Yellowed'', is inspired by vintage keyboards that are often found with aged yellowed keycaps. Typically, enthusiast restore their yellowed keycaps to their former glory, but... Why not embrace the yellow?

I made this set with the goal of retaining that vintage style we all know and love, whilst modernizing it to a point where it would sit comfortably in contemporary desk setups.

Why DCS

DCS profile is slowly making its return to the keyboard scene. I think there are already so many cherry profile keysets (I'm slightly bored of it), DCS offers an entirely different feel and typing experience. The DCS profile has a thinner profile than GMK caps, this means a slightly ''chirpier'' sound, you'll also be able to fully appreciate the finer characteristics of the keyboard and key-feel when typing. This leads to a distinct typing experience some can describe as ''raw'', or ''pure''.

You have some goofiness going on with your ISO compatibility alpha-wise. Right now you're halfway between two common setups.

Currently you have:

R3 '@

I recommend one of these setups:

UK ISO, which requires 6 alphas

R1 `¬ or `¬¦
R1 2"
R1 3£
R3 '@
R3 #~
R4 \|

Terminal Minimal US ISO, which requires 2 alphas

Windows Minimal US ISO, also just 2 alphas, though less recommended outside certain contexts

Unless you plan on offering the numpad kit at a high moq, it would probably be best to include it in base. Kitting needs a good bit of work, and I would like to see the quality of the renders improved a little to better represent what you’re trying to show. Personally think you should go with wyse or gorton legends for this. Finally target pricing would be nice, since it’s relatively easy to get quotes. I’ve listed all the kitting changes are immediately apparent to me below:

Base:
Add the four uk iso keys you are missing (not, mod not, 1, and 2) or just change to terminal
Move R1 end and pg dn to numpad kit or move numpad kit to base
Change the stepped caps to say double line “caps lock” instead of “caps”
Add mod tilde
Change 1.5u backspace and iso enter to text+icon, and would encourage 1.25u to be text only.

Numpad:
If you keep it separate of base: add equals
Remove second enter
Would encourage adding arrows and Nav subs
Change “num” to double line “num lock”
Add 1u + and -

Other:
Please add a spacebars kit
Please list what stock colors you are using

Fix the 1.25u shifts, it's supposed to be icon+text and not icon only. It is also sitting higher than the other icons. Also don't just include UK-ISO because of a very loud minority.

I'm a fan of the theme, but there definitely needs to be some changes.

numpad should really be in the base, you're missing a spacebar kit currently. Please use wyse on dcs, especially because it's a vintage themed set. not everything needs to use cherry legends.

Thank you for the joke, you just made my day. Jokes aside (heh), similar description of DCS.. yes. Do I genuinely feel this way about DCS... also yes. The F13 box, sorry haha. Likely, I'm going to render again with the kitting changes suggested and F13 as an actual key, with mod and alpha colors.

I will also consider spacebar kitting for the set. Thank you for the valuable input.

As much as I would love to also see the base kit price be $80, I could be wrong but even if this uses stock SP colors there's potential for it to be $90+ due to the price of resin being extremely high right now. After getting multiple quotes for DCS Rectifier no matter how small I tried making the base kit I was unable to consider any price point under $100 due to the prices SP quoted me. But then again I could be wrong, SP prices could be very different set to set. I'm down for this if you are able to price it at $80!

I will consider adding yellow, but I want to keep the cost low. Personally, I don't like how the yellow ends up looking when applied, I much prefer the RGB modifier WKL builds.

It’s probably very visible irl. I have some og doubleshots that in a vacuum don’t look that Yellow. But hold it next to a new set and it looks like the og’s have mustard all over it :P

Missed opportunity not to render this on a vintage board.
Most of render color choices don't seem to pair with the board / keyset well.
Consider A beige board > A soft green > A deep green > a yellow board.

This set reminds me of yellow teeth. Get the theme but not really into it.
If the spirit of the ic was "make your old boards look old again with something new" I probably would not feel so confused right now. +1 Wyse Legends

Hello project - ''Yellowed'' enjoyer,

I removed the RGB modifiers kit. Reason being, my GMK + DCS RGBYK 2022 GB is live right now, and features better compatibility, more keys included, and is an overall better package. Here's the GH link, please consider purchasing a set: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=118119.0

This is just a quick update to inform of the removal of the RGB kit, and the currently running RGBYK 2022 GBs. DCS ''Yellowed'' will continue its development and undergo suggested changes/feedback hopefully before the end of this year.

Here's a small list of changes you can expect to take place when development resumes:

- Major kitting revamp (I want to try my best to keep the set sub $110 pricing, even less if possible)
- Legends will be switched to OG DCS WYSE/Gorton, meaning renders will also be updated.
- Plastic stock and custom colors will be posted to IC.
