Welcome to the GMK Dracula group buy thread! ▓▒░
Introducing GMK Dracula, a keyset based on the glorious Dracula Theme (https://draculatheme.com/) color-scheme. GMK Dracula turns the software aesthetic into keyboard keyset form, expanding the theme even further with add-on modules. The set features dark greyish blue tones with dark blue-purple-gray alphas. The default legend color is a contrasting neutral/cool white, which adds to the overall legibility of the classic text + icon legends. In addition, the Core and add-on modules include legends and accent keys in various pastel and neon colors, all based on selected Dracula Theme colors.

Colors
The colors are to be matched as close to the Dracula Theme colors as possible using custom colors, the base colors are very dark grayish blue. A GMK stock color may be used for the white alpha legend color.
The plan is to match the colors to Pantones first, then order plastic color chips, which GMK can then match their plastics to. I think this method allows for a great range of colors to choose from, but still retains the color matching accuracy with plastic chips from Pantone.
A color comparison with other popular/similar GMK sets:
▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ COLOR_COMPARISON.md ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓
├── The colors are represented as accurately as possible using the correct color codes, using neutral lighting.
└── The second version has a neutral background color instead of a stylized one for an even more accurate comparison, as perception of color is relative to the surroundings after all.

Is there a price adjustment according to Moq?
-
I'm so excited to get my hands on this. Dracula theme is the best :)
-
Considering the amount of GMK Sets running the past months, when is this expected to be produced? I am wondering, how long does it take GMK to produce one group buy run? :)
-
This is one of the best executed ICs/GBs I've seen in ages. Best of luck, altho I'm sure you won't need it! :thumb:

Oops, added the links now.

Stupid question but can someone tell me how purple the alphas are? I'm slightly colourblind and there's a range where I know I may have an issue but I (obviously) can't tell if it's really, really blue/grey or actually quite purple.

I would say it has a very slight purple tint- but definitely still gray!
-
Already put in my order at DailyClack for base, err, nightmode, and highlight 👍
I know I said this in Discord already but I think alphas + err + nightmode is going to be a very popular combo - perhaps if this runs again that could be made into a second base kit?

I definitely added those and Norde to my cart before balking at $300+

Love this colourway and the whole presentation of it. First GMK kit Im going in on for ages. Considering not getting nightmode but then I remember how I didnt get mono mods in Oblivion and ended up spending ages trying to get them aftermarket for a decent price/trade. Better to be safe than sorry I guess. GLWGB.

I’m sure I’m not the only person interested in ERR who wouldn’t want the f13 key? Can you split with someone on your side of the Atlantic?
-
Just noticed the ERR module's MOQ is 250. Is that because of the custom legends?
That set is like one huge novelty kit, huh?

I'm a simple man: I see a keyset that uses the same color scheme I've come to enjoy using in terminal and i3wm as well as vim style hjkl keys so I buy it.

Localisation kit is pretty pricey for just 4/5 keys I might use. Nearly 20 euros more than other GMK localisation kits?
-
Localisation kit is pretty pricey for just 4/5 keys I might use. Nearly 20 euros more than other GMK localisation kits?
That's because the MOQ for that is only 50, which is achievable. No profit is being made from that kit either. You could always find someone who'd need other keys to split the kit with.
-
In for Core, Nightmode, Highlight and Err. Super excited about this one. Great job on the IC/GB and excited to see how well this one does by the end.
-
wait, GMK has MOQs less than 100? and we still couldn't have Colemak??? 😂
-
in for 1 of each, except localisation
-
this feels like armed robbery
-
wait, GMK has MOQs less than 100? and we still couldn't have Colemak??? 😂
If you pool Git, regular, monochrome, and assembly, GMK oblivion sold 3000 kits, and colevrak sold 61 there. I think the 50 MOQ is still hard.
-
Anyone interested in splitting the Localization kit? Here's the keys I wouldn't need: https://imgur.com/a/1dhB4I4. Guess I could split the Highlight & Command kits too, I'd be happy with about 1/3 of the keys on those.

This set really grew on me the more I looked at it. I went from hard pass (never had a great affinity for blueish hues) to in on Core + Nightmode + Highlight + ERR!

The MOQ of 50 will be hard enough to reach as it is :)) everyone who needs it should buy their own xD

All the colors on the Rama caps are matched to the keyset colors (as close as possible). The enamel infill on the Eye is matched to the keyset modifier color.

Yeah I guess so, I'm just finding it hard to justify spending 300 and only using 30% of the caps

If you pool Git, regular, monochrome, and assembly, GMK oblivion sold 3000 kits, and colevrak sold 61 there. I think the 50 MOQ is still hard.
the colevrak kit that ran with oblivion only had support for colemak and dvorak. it's not going to do as well as a colevrak+ kit like the one that ran with pulse. Pulse sold 650 kits and 20 colevrak kits. that's 50% more when you do the math. oblivion could have gotten 90+
also mt3 serika ran a colevrak+ kit and hit 70 with the 1500 alpha kits sold (if you include the katakana kit) 250% more than oblivion.
with this on pace for 1500 it'd be nice if we at least tried.
-

People also forget the lost sales to people who would buy all of the other kits along side of colemak, but buy none because there is no support. Even if you only sell 20 colevrak kits, that could mean another 20 base + whatever kits those people buy.

wait, GMK has MOQs less than 100? and we still couldn't have Colemak???
If you pool Git, regular, monochrome, and assembly, GMK oblivion sold 3000 kits, and colevrak sold 61 there. I think the 50 MOQ is still hard.
the colevrak kit that ran with oblivion only had support for colemak and dvorak. it's not going to do as well as a colevrak+ kit like the one that ran with pulse. Pulse sold 650 kits and 20 colevrak kits. that's 50% more when you do the math. oblivion could have gotten 90+. with this on pace for 1500 it'd be nice if we at least tried.
People also forget the lost sales to people who would buy all of the other kits along side of colemak, but buy none because there is no support. Even if you only sell 20 colevrak kits, that could mean another 20 base + whatever kits those people buy.

How late can I change a shipping address? There'a chance I might move before it ships and that's worrying me a bit.

Very interesting keyset design and renders are just nuts! I am considering to support this.

Man I would love to have a "Hello, World!" key like Oblivion did. At least it fits with the software theme.
Also in for Base, Highlight, Darkmode and Space.

Joined the GB, in for the Core, Highlight, and ERR! Would love to see more dev, or Linux, or VIM related. Nice work in creating such amazing kits! Congrats on receiving so many orders so quickly!

Ordered today! My first GB that I've followed through geekhack, really excited for this set! Bought one of the Core, Highlight, and Localisation. Now to settle on the right switches and case. :D

Hey everyone!
We are excited to announce that we will be adding 5 keys to the GMK Dracula Core Module at 1500 customer orders! We are currently over 1100!

GB open for three more days, until October 31st!

Don't want to be a negative nancy but I'm not excited by the "bonus" keycaps. What's the point of a stepped control key? Afaik the caps lock is stepped so it becomes harder to press it by accident. This also makes it harder to reach though. If I have CTRL mapped there, this is counterintuitive. And I guess the other keys are for a 65%? Whatever.
-
just to have a reference, what did they add for GMK bento and GMK motropolis?

For me stepped caps is an aesthetic thing. If definitely is less optimal but in practice I do not notice the difference after adjusting to it.

You know, they didnt have to include any extra keys. Dont act so entitled.

They added something for free that you don't need, how terrible this world has become.

It's not only that I have no need for it, I think the concept of a stepped CTRL is wrong.
-
just to have a reference, what did they add for GMK bento and GMK motropolis?
Bento had 3 novelties. Metropolis had a novelty, accent return and arrow keys, 2u shift, 1.25 tab, and 1.75 return

Yes, these blasphemous heathens and their mortal sin of stepped control. They will burn in the deepest depths of hell for their transgression against divine law.

no additional keys added would be better than useless added :p

Another example that “I don’t want to seem THAT THING but...” is always immediately followed by THAT THING.
I for one would love the stepped Ctrl cap because it’s perfect for my G80-11900.

Luckily for you it doesn't seem like a set that'll terribly difficult to hunt down on the aftermarket due to the sheer amount. :D

Having spent the whole month adding sets to my basket and removing them I finally crumbled and went for core + localization. Excited for my first GB.

No, that is not a typo. I'm at loss for words. Thank you everyone, I can't wait to see Dracula in use!
Some more good news, the color matching is under way. We have been hard at work for a long time already, and not to worry, we're not matching colors in bedroom lighting.

Those numbers are incredibly impressive. Congrats on the GB :thumb:

wish massdrop would actually run sets like this so customers could benefit from price drops. yeah, 3 keys is great, id rather have the price drop. vendors caking

Congratulations on achieving 3K sales on base kit.
"Error kit" also exceeded 1K sales, so do you have any plans to add a red Enter key in "Error kit" to celebrate?

So what doeas the final base kit with all the extra keys look like? Oh and will there be any extra keys in the child kits? There were 1k highlight kits sold!

dvorcol is actually right
some ICs have just been going on for an age, it's not the only indicator of how well a set will sell
and some sets don't even run ICs anymore, and they sell fine
it's hard to predict

most hobbies are like this. you get the circle jerk around the creators, designers, vendors. in the end every "favor" done for the consumer is just another way to make profits (which i can respect to a certain degree, im not saying vendors shouldn't be making profit for their hard work). people argue over putting 40s, iso, whatever else in the base kit to save a few bucks but when a set's numbers could have potentially saved the consumer 30 dollars (or whatever it was) they are busy jerking off the vendor and designer for adding in 3 keys no one cared about from the get go.
for all the **** massdrop gets, at least they are FAR more consumer centric in that respect. they own this forum but only run sets by the same designers which is a shame.
and to dvorcol, of course just page count means nothing but the sentiment within the pages is a decent indicator. if all 16 pages are **** talk and arguing obviously not, if all 16 pages are people basically nutting themselves its not an awful indicator.
i don't expect most of this forum to agree with me. there is far too much blind loyalty.

Well, that's what a premium hobby is all about.
Enthusiast are seeking the Hype, Color matching, Something rare, One time production and maybe Hard to get.
No one is forcing these enthusiast to join the GB.
Have seen many GB fails because does not met Minimum quantity as well for no specific reason.
There are plenty other option of Low Price ABS keycaps off the shelf with nice colors too.
It's just a preference for this hobby.
Stay Calm and Keep Clacking.

I freaking love [GMK] keycaps... I have 4 MX boards but I've lost count of how many keysets I have.
Unfortunately, this is probably my last purchase.
Initially when vendors stopped offering price drops I wasn't all that phased by it.
Yeah, I understood it was a pain in the ass for the vendor to go back and manually refund small amounts to hundreds of orders.
But this hobby has been growing very fast and keycap sales have gotten pretty crazy right now.
It used to be that you HAD to sell on Drop in order to hit big order numbers. This is obviously no longer the case and our community vendors can now hit numbers bigger than Drop.
Is it time the vendors figure out some system to bring back the price drops?
I'm not a fan of adding new keys, and it sucks that's the way it is going. The number of keys added is so arbitrary. For example Metropolis sold 1500 (with extras) and added 9 keys. Dracula sold 3000 (with extras) and added 5 keys.
It really just seems like the extras are just tossed out to distract everyone from the missing price drops.
If this set had sold on Drop with these numbers (not including extras so 2K sales), I guess it would be $100-110
There also would've been several drop points for half of the child kits.
That $20 price drop on the base kit @ 2K sales is $40,000.
Add in the price drops for the child kits and I think I know where the 938 extra base kits came from.
I think we've lost the spirit of group buys and I don't think there is any incentive for group buys to go back to having price drops, the current system works too good for the vendors.
-

It really just seems like the extras are just tossed out to distract everyone from the missing price drops.
If this set had sold on Drop with these numbers (not including extras so 2K sales), I guess it would be $100-110
There also would've been several drop points for half of the child kits.
That $20 price drop on the base kit @ 2K sales is $40,000.
Add in the price drops for the child kits and I think I know where the 938 extra base kits came from.
I think we've lost the spirit of group buys and I don't think there is any incentive for group buys to go back to having price drops, the current system works too good for the vendors.
let them make fun of you for 2 statements they nitpick and dont agree with but at the end of the day That $20 price drop on the base kit @ 2K sales is $40,000. is all that matters. rely on the customer to get the set made but won't invest themselves unless its a sure thing and then pocket the price breaks too. it is what it is.

40k is a lot of money but my piece of that pie is only ~20 dollars and for me personally I am fine waiving 20 dollars if I have some level of certainty that I will actually get what I purchased. To me that means having a vendor manage the logistics of the groupbuy because I have had too many geekhackers happily steal my money and pretend they either don't know me or that their group buy from 2012 is "shipping!".

wish massdrop would actually run sets like this so customers could benefit from price drops. yeah, 3 keys is great, id rather have the price drop. vendors caking
Who can predict which upcoming sets will sell this well?
this one was possibly the most obvious from the 13 page interest check
So a set with a 16 page interest check will probably do even better?
lol this has to be the only forum I know of that has this anti-consumer attitude.
most hobbies are like this. you get the circle jerk around the creators, designers, vendors. in the end every "favor" done for the consumer is just another way to make profits (which i can respect to a certain degree, im not saying vendors shouldn't be making profit for their hard work). people argue over putting 40s, iso, whatever else in the base kit to save a few bucks but when a set's numbers could have potentially saved the consumer 30 dollars (or whatever it was) they are busy jerking off the vendor and designer for adding in 3 keys no one cared about from the get go.
for all the **** massdrop gets, at least they are FAR more consumer centric in that respect. they own this forum but only run sets by the same designers which is a shame.
and to dvorcol, of course just page count means nothing but the sentiment within the pages is a decent indicator. if all 16 pages are **** talk and arguing obviously not, if all 16 pages are people basically nutting themselves its not an awful indicator.
i don't expect most of this forum to agree with me. there is far too much blind loyalty.

This is why the ideal MOQ exists. It's higher than the production (GMK's) MOQ. Dixie, NovelKeys, etc. set their goal MOQ higher than the GMK MOQ to offer lower initial pricing.
We are past having one, maybe two sets a month barely scraping towards 150 or 250 base units. Sets can easily hit 500+ if designed well and marketed properly as seen here and with many others. The lower price people pay is what the "dropped" price would be at 250, 500+ sets. Vendors are projecting to hit these larger numbers from the start and are regularly hitting them.
It's pointless to set a price at 150/250 with the anticipation of hitting 500+ anyway, it's extra work that's not necessary if the pricing is set for the higher MOQ from the beginning. Once you get into 1000+ units sold you can get into adding extra keys, etc. as Dracula did. It's also not as easy as you likely think to implement a Drop-like system where buyers are charged at the END of the buy, versus when they actually put in their order (the better way to do it, safer, you secure the funds, etc.). Manually refunding 170 orders sure, that's an afternoon - but 2000? - you're kidding me if you think anyone wants to do that buddy.
TL;DR The price drop is built in at the beginning. It saves time and effort on the backend once the buy hits the numbers that the vendor projects at the beginning.

I really wish more people actually shared this sentiment.
It's absolutely ridiculous for anyone to expect a business not to make at least a little money on products they sell. Especially a business where selling keyboard-related products is their main source of income.
That $5 more you spent on that keyset allows vendors to move our hobby forward. If you're so upset about the price, either don't buy the product or buy 1 less Starbucks coffee a week.

Right. You guys are making it seem like I am saying the vendors don't deserve to make money, which is not what I am saying at all.
You guys make it seem like the vendors end up with no margin if they passed along the price drops, which is not true either.
Let me put it this way. I can't exactly remember which set it was that started to not offer price drops... but IIRC the reasoning for it was that it was too much work to manually refund each purchase. Which I completely understand and agree with.
Nowhere did I say that vendors should sit there and manually refund all those orders. I just merely asked, "Is it time the vendors figure out some system to bring back the price drops?"
Lets go back to the reason for getting rid of the price drops: It's too much work.
I totally agree, it is a ton of work and I wouldn't wish that tediousness upon anyone. However, what they are saying here is "It's too much work for me to pass along the price drops, so I'm just going to pocket the money."
$40,000 would go a long way to just explore the possibility of implementing a system for price drops. Instead, it is just pocketed because that's the easy (and profitable) thing to do.
You guys don't agree with me, that's fine. You guys can laugh at me and make fun of me, IDGAF. In the end, I'm just a drop in the ocean... little me not buying future sets will not affect sales at all and my opinion will be buried and forgotten about.

I just think a lot of people think there is some other pseudo relationship between vendors and buyers here. That's where the issue lies. This is a transactional business relationship. A buyer is only as useful as their wallet to vendors, and vendors are only as useful as the product they are selling. When you start trying to muck about some other pseudo ethics one way or another, things get spicy. The $ value is the only one that matters here. The vendors give the price before a buyer buys. Then the buyer pays. The fact that a vendor is pocketing extra dough doesn't matter because they set that price at the start, and the buyer is the one that acts afterward. When we all just realize this is nothing more but business everything can become really easy.

Question...
Do you go into Wal-mart and ask them what their profit margin is on everything you buy? Do you sit and try to nitpick with a checkout clerk at said Wal-mart because you think the price on that skim milk you're buying is too much? No, of course you don't. It's none of your business what their profit margin is, and the same thing relates to these keysets.
I'm glad these vendors are making $40,000 extra on these sets. If they take even 5% of that and roll it into the next project, then great. Even if they don't, great. Good on them for running a successful business. You should be grateful that there's businesses that allow us to purchase these products in a secure manner that offers you all the consumer protections. I'd much rather toss money to a reputable website instead of some random person that's just storing $40,000 in some paypal account that could be locked up at any time at even just a couple of reports.

Terms and prices are set beforehand. It was clearly fair enough for many people to buy. If you don't like it don't buy it. If you can't help yourself, and are mad you couldn't save a few extra dollars, then you have other problems that you need to sort out.
-
People that complain about lack of price drops can vote with their wallets and not join group buys. Perhaps they will enjoy the secondary market prices instead!
As far as I know, no one is getting rich off of this hobby. Very few people are able to make this into their full time jobs and, if they can, I very much applaud them because it means they will be able to devote more time and energy into producing higher quality products for us to enjoy.
We should be happy to see vendors going full-time because that's what's best for the hobby in the long run.
Do you think it benefits anyone if people complained hundreds of years ago that watchmakers were making too much profit and they were losing the spirit of the watchmaking hobby?
-
Very simple, for people whose upset about not getting price drop with higher quantity, DON'T buy or Join this GB.
Create your own Keycaps Design and Color Blocking, and run your own GB the way you want. Announce your GB to the community, and if the color blocking suit the community Taste you may as well get that 3,000, and you can set to the price you wanted when it reach the number.
Don't just complain, work it out, set your ideal example as a the benchmark for the community.

Who would've thought a bunch of consumers could be so anti-consumer?
Sorry for getting all of you riled up by saying I wanted price drops to come back so we all could save a few more dollars.
I wasn't even demanding it, I just asked if it's something worth exploring and pointing out that the capital to explore that option is likely there.
There will be no more from me on this topic.

you defintely were not around when we were ****ing constantly getting scammed by people who showed up and ran like one GB and ran off with the money without us every getting a product
it's not anti consumer to want what you pay for to arrive, and to pay a premium to avoid the classic hassle that normally happens in GBs
i have the data to back up that vendors are good for the community, but i don't imagine i need to show it to you
you aren't incorrect in your assessment that yes, we're paying a lot, but if you can do the same job just as well, why don't you just do it instead of complaining on a keyboard ****posting forum?
and besides: drop gets better pricing from GMK than non-drop vendors
and non-drop vendors generally price with a certain MOQ in mind, which is why we're seeing a lot more sets at 500 MOQ lately, even though GMK's MOQ hasn't moved from 250 for sets with custom colors
but really, your argument that we should have more price drops isn't necessarily incorrect, just mildly uninformed

Dammit. Seriously last one because the random runner vs vendor argument came up again...
I wasn't comparing individual runners to the vendors. I'm sure we all remember the days when vendors did give price drops and that really didn't lower the level of service the vendors put out.
And you're right, I don't have all the data... I only see what is posted publicly... and publicly I see about $40,000 that could be used to, at least, explore the possibility of implementing a system to bring back the drops.
Like you said, I'm not necessarily incorrect. Which is where I think some exploration would come into play.
The end. For real.

you aren't incorrect in your assessment that yes, we're paying a lot, but if you can do the same job just as well, why don't you just do it instead of complaining on a keyboard ****posting forum?
and besides: drop gets better pricing from GMK than non-drop vendors
and non-drop vendors generally price with a certain MOQ in mind, which is why we're seeing a lot more sets at 500 MOQ lately, even though GMK's MOQ hasn't moved from 250 for sets with custom colors
but really, your argument that we should have more price drops isn't necessarily incorrect, just mildly uninformed
The end. For real.
So... The buyers deserve the 40k, not the vendor? Why would they moq price drops when profits are rocketing? What is a vendor's incentive to do that, especially when they almost break 2k base kits at the price they had
-
I don't care about saving 5-20 bucks and am happy to support vendors. But it was more fun watching the sales numbers with price drops. imo a good solution would be introducing extra keycaps per 1000/1500/2000... instead of price drops.
btw the extra keycaps we get from this gb are really disappointing. I know they don't have to add any exras at all. I guess very few will have a use for them. Was hoping for a simple accent kit, only esc and enter everybody could use. If they would have been introduced in the ic or from the beginning of the gb, participants would have had the chance trying to convince the runner to change these.
-
I don't see why it's such a contentious suggestion. The rebuttal about the vendors deserving the money rings hollow when this very practice is employed by the most successful keycap gb vendor out there (Drop). If they can have a highly successful keycap gb business *and* offer price breaks as the quantity ordered increases, then other vendors should be able to do that as well. One thing that really sets Drop apart is that they've invested more heavily than others in building their site, including the tools needed to handle price breaks. Dohmain makes a very good point that the windfall from a highly successful group buy like GMK Dracula could be used by the vendor to build the automation they need to do make it happen for themselves. It represents an opportunity for the vendor. If the vendor chooses to reinvest those profits in their business, then this could be something that would set that vendor apart from others in a very positive way on future group buys. I like Dixie Mech. I'm all in favor of them giving everyone more of an incentive to buy from them. It seems like it would be a win/win for all involved.
When I consider joining a group buy, part of the decision is how much I like the set. Part of it is how much it's priced at. Part of it is what I think of the vendor.
-
It's interesting to see the defensive response to a purely pro consumer sentiment.
Anyway, congratulations with a successfull GB.
-
Vendors ordered 1000 extras and took inventory risk. Maybe they will sell out quick. Maybe not.
Is $20+ cost drop at 3000 units justify the risk? Maybe. Maybe not.
In any case, I don't think anyone did this before. They took the risk. Let them enjoy the reward if successful.
5 extra keys at 1500 seem pretty good. 5 extra keys at 2000 seem pretty OK.
3000 is not worth mentioning since vendors took it there.
All in all, this GB was fantastic. It was really buttoned down from the very beginning. I don't think I've seen comprehensive color comparison before.
Don't let little glitch get in the way. Just have some fun!

Great idea! Few more extra keys to celebrate 3000 would have a perfect finishing touch. :thumb:

This 'loyalty' is only relevant when there are more than one vender per locale per set. Just because a vendor can do something doesn't mean they should or will. Their only obligation is to take your money and ship you a kit. If sets are sold at multiple vendors per locale, that's when buyers and vendors both need to start getting picky. Until then, they don't have to do anything
-
I've been a member of this site for like 10min but look... I assume we're all adults here with absolute free agency over how we spend our money. At some point we looked in the mirror and decided to buy plastic keyboard caps, added all the bits to a cart and looked at the price point. $150.00 $200.00 ... $300.00!? We clicked the buy button.
A choice was made.
Now it would be nice if someone out of the goodness of their hearts decided to refund some of that cash so we can live the dream with a little extra jingle in our pocket, but we are absolutely not entitled to such. We agreed up front with no guarantee of any adjustments on the back end. If its too rich for your blood up front, don't pay the cost. Abstain. Eventually when enough people feel the same the prices will have to come down in order to meet the market value of the product.
That's how I see it anyway.
That said its too bad we're all ****ting all over OP's celebratory mood. I'll be excited to see my set show up. First GMK buy in more than a year for me. First one period that I found through this site. As long as I receive my product I'll be happy.
-
Everyone who things lack of price drops is anti-consumer is being myopic.
Vendors and designers making money is a good thing for super niche hobbies like this. It allows them the take risks and bring projects to life that otherwise would never happen.
We know what prices are up front. There is not fraud. There is no trickery.

Nope, you've missed my point. On some group buys (not this buy, and not this vendor -- I like this set, I like Dixie Mech, and I ordered GMK Dracula), my thought process is "Do I want this set? Yes. Do I want this set enough to buy it from an annoying vendor who seems to have fulfillment problems every time and who I will once again regret giving my money? No, not this time." There are vendors who make me less likely to buy a set I want, just because the vendor is annoying to deal with. There are vendors I will not buy from under any circumstances because they have done something particularly egregious in a past buy. So even when there is only one vendor per locale (or even just one vendor period), who that vendor is factors into whether I'm buying any given set. I have stayed out of multiple group buys that I wanted just because of the choice of vendor, and I'm sure I will do so again in the future.
-
Prices are what it is, and we knew there was a slim-to-none chance of price drops before it started.
Like some others pointed out before, the extra key choices are more disappointing. Extra accents (like Metropolis) would've been nice; it rewards the early buyers with extras that they can use. Extra compatibility keys are essentially worthless to the early buyers (they wouldn't have bought them if their keyboards are incompatible), and its purpose was to get more buyers to buy in.
-
So any updates since the group buy ended? It's been crickets on this end.
-
Yeah same, would love to hear how it's progressing. Especially for us first-time GB'ers.

Bruh, it's been less then a month since GB ended lol

*edit
There aren't as many production milestones as in keyboard GB's so not much to update about.
-
Yeah same, would love to hear how it's progressing. Especially for us first-time GB'ers.
They won't start colour matching or production until Q1/Q2 next year, there's a big queue ahead of Dracula at GMK right now
It's gonna be like this for a couple more months, better get used to it brother
-
No worries, thanks for the info. Good to know what to expect :)
-
Yeah I don't have an issue waiting just wanted to know whats up/what to expect/when, etc.

Hi so i recently got into customs and am building my first right now.
I completely fell in love with this set! Will there be extras made for people who missed thegroupbuy or is there any other way to aquire the core set without mechmarket?
BEST SET EVER
-
There are likely a decent number of extras. When you find the time they are listed, even if someone tells you theres a lot of them, you will buy in the opening 30 seconds of their listing. These things go faster than youd figure.

Every vendor is going to have a ton of extras and people will also be selling on mechmarket. You'll be able to get one without too much markup.

Highly appreciated if someone is willing to help me out ;)

We are still waiting for R2 color samples from GMK (getting R2 of modifier base, pink, purple, yellow, and green). Taking much longer than usual due to other delays and the situation in general I'm assuming.

Not crazy. I see what you are talking about. Perhaps we will see more sample pictures in the time coming

Looking to buy an extra set of these if anyone wants to sell

Alphas and mods are not right. Mods and alphas have too much saturation and value (brightness). I took HSV values of the colors listed in IC and increased both saturation and value by 10-20 -> got colors like in the received samples.
Also red and green should be more "washed".
-
If any EU buyer wants to part from Base, Err und Highlights - just let me know.
After getting into programming Dracula really got into my heart ;)
-
That lights pretty bright to make N9 grey look that light.
Yeah agreed. Also Oblivion looks way more washed out than it does IRL. I took a shot of my boards with Oblivion and Nines (N9 based set) in natural daylight inside to compare if it helps.

It's been so long, I even forgot I was in on this GB ;D

dailyclack still has the core set available. i think they marked the core up a little, but you can still buy it. https://dailyclack.com/products/gmk-dracc?variant=30267216461866
prices are in AUD. converted to USD, with shipping, it's $180.
daily clack is an AU reseller, but they ship to the US for a very reasonable price. i'm in the US, i'm thinking of buying the kit from them.
-
Yes they marked it up because they are their extra kits.
GB price is available for the GB, pre order price is slightly more and available until it ships, and then in stock price is slightly more again but is immediate availability, if there are any left at that point.
Its just a different method for selling extras, rather than waiting until the GB ships to everyone they allow you to purchase extras in advance.
I think at one point they had most kits but seems like most are gone.

Other kits will likely be available, but having base kit out of proportion to the other kits relative to the number ordered is probably fair to say. If I was a vendor I probably wouldn't want to have to be stuck with just child kits...

Any news on Dracula? We are already on mid May and hope that OP has some new for us by then, its already been 6mths since the GB.

very normal for extras of child kits to be ordered in smaller quantities
cannot give a definitive answer as i'm not involved, but yeah

there's a pandemic on and GMK wasn't producing for a bit (afaik) so that probably threw a delay in
i'm sure there will be updates soon

Color matching for other sets has taken months for one round of it where it used to be much faster pre-Covid. I think it's been two months for GMK crimson cadet. Meanwhile, the new GMK trays have plenty of issues, and GMK shipped sandstorm to Krelbit and left out the child kits and didn't mention it. I'd expect delays at each level of logistics. Generally, I think the time between info from GMK to set designer or vendor and then transmitted to us is under 48hrs. That there's months between updates, not a day or two, is on GMK and asking here isn't gonna get you new info.
-
New GMK trays?
Nevermind, just found them myself. Oh well, so long as the caps don't get damaged that's the important part to me.
-
New GMK trays?
being discussed here: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=102364.50
relative to many users having keys fall out of the tray during shipping or the tray breaking. Unclear the number it affects, as I assume if you had nothing wrong you probably didn't post a picture of your tray working perfectly...

Sorry for the ignorance, but I have some questions:
1. What does it mean to wait for extras? Where are they going to be sold?
2. What is the approximate time frame for them to be available? about one month or six months?
3. What should I do if I want to get this set (was not part of the group buy)? Should I just Pre Order the Set from Daily Clack like solomonshv have suggested?
-

1. When the vendors are done fulfilling orders from the group buy phase, they will sell extras that were ordered.
2. Time frame is generally right after fulfillment of GB, so within a month of that.
3. Wait for extras/mechmarket, or if DC is the vendor for your area try through them.

In Color Matching Phase
I reached out to GMK asking why these were taking so long and they said they are waiting on two more samples and then they will send them to us.

Lets see if we can break a year in color matching

I think GMK has too many in the queues

Hello people,
I wanted to pop in for an update on the color matching since weve been in this phase for an abnormally long time. I post updates every single week on every project on our news page which is linked under my profile pic here on GH on the left. However weve been getting a lot of uncertainty from people thinking something is wrong so I want to clear that up.
We have only received two rounds of color samples since October. These samples are only supposed to take 3-4 weeks for each round. They are taking 3-4 months. There is no more of a delay in colors in our end as any other set in the past. GMK Mizu last summer got three rounds of samples in 3 months. So its just a backlog at the plastic supplier because they had to completely shut down for covid. We have received all but two of the Round 2 color samples and we will be sending those to Pikku for him to review for us to make the decisions on those colors.
Colors that have been approved:
Blue
Red
Colors that we have received a second round of:
Purple
Yellow
Pink
Mods
Colors we are waiting to receive second round of:
Green
Alphas (were originally approved but we decided to get another round just to be certain they were right)
We will keep you updated on which colors have been approved after Pikku sees them and we discuss.
Best,
Garrett
-
Thanks a lot for the update, even though waiting/having the set delayed that much kinda sucks, I'd much rather wait a bit longer, just so that you guys can get the colours as close to perfect as possible :thumb:

Dixie Mech email from July 1st says that the samples have finally been sent to Pikku for approval, yay!
I sincerely hope they didn't skimp on the color-matching phase, seeing as how it was in that phase for like...an obscene amount of months. GMK Terra went through this same song and dance, and its samples have been sent out to its designer now as well.
Two birds, one stone and all that.

This groupbuy hasn't shipped yet so nobody has this set. And selling groupbuy spots is not allowed.
-
Take your time pikku! We all want it 'right', we've waited long enough anyways :).
For the R1 samples, honestly both red/green seem too warm (saturation maybe). The pastels are cohesive with each other really well (and are farther down on the cool spectrum).

Hoping for a second round... (T_T)

Hoping for a second round... (T_T)
Just buy extras.
-
Do we know if there will also be extras of the Rama cap? Looking for an Err rama cap, as well as core, highlight, white space, err modules... lol pray 4 extras.
-
Let's go color matching :)
-
Yawn. :-X

nothing to see here

Best color matched set of 2022

Bets on which will come first, Dracula or a vaccine?
All jokes aside, hopefully they will get this set perfect and we will get a real update and ETA soon. Hold fast gentleman.

They hated him, for he spoke the truth.

I mean, I knew I would wait... but damn. Did something happen?
(lol)
-
That color matching life it's real out here.
-
Damn I should have grabbed a minify set. Hopefully it's not impossible to get extras, when they ever come out.

Not when, but if.

Do the deskmats rely on colour matching? I only ordered those and I wonder when those ship.

US Deskmats have started shipping. I'm getting my Dracula Deskmat delivered tommorrow from Dixie :thumb:
-
Crazy that deskmats and Rama artisans have shipped and production hasn't even started yet.
-
Wait, have the Rama caps shipped already? I hope not, because I haven't received anything yet!
-
I wonder what is taking so long. All the other GMK sets have no issues right?
-
Ordered this set in October last year, going to celebrate the 1st year anniversary soon.
-

I won't pretend to know, but if it's a color matching issue then I'm OK to wait. I'm happy with my 8008 set but I could be a lot happier.
-
Don't you guys worry, the color matching process is well under way and we are doing everything we possibly can to get the colors just right. The current samples are being measured for accuracy by a third party right now.
The amount of custom colors surely has an effect on how long the color matching takes, but the actual biggest delay has been caused on GMK's end, and likely the factory supplying them plastic due to COVID-19, or so I've heard. Keep in mind I got my hands on round 2 samples only at the beginning of last month (8th of July to be precise). It took them around 4 months to get us R1 samples, and another 3 months for the R2 samples :/

Thanks for the update. I appreciate your dedication to getting the colors just right.
Can you specify to GMK to double or triple check the QC on the spacebars? Almost every set that's come post-covid has had bent spacebars, and at this rate I'm really to just start buying pbt and saving half my cash...

I guess people that ordered through the local vendors will get their rama caps together with the set.

Man I wish for an R2 of this. I hope I'll be lucky enough to get extras when they finally deliver, that's one of the coolest sets I have seen, no doubt.

They haven't even completed color sampling yet for R1...Wishing for an R2 is kinda silly right now.

Oh damn, WTB Rama ERR! Cap...

Should have gone in for the yellow esc keycap..

Not buying the Err! Rama was a mistake.
Looks great.

Just dropped by to check whatsup. I'd rather wait to get the colors right. and whatsup with the bent spacebars? I've only seen the first love one. has there been other gmk sets with the same issue?

Not to defend GMK, as I think they should absolutely try and fix the ongoing issues and define clear and fair specifications, but contrary to what many people seem to believe, they are nothing new.

let's put it in another way - gmk has been ignoring the quality control problem as long as people are not voicing out their opinions

The thing is, the imperfections on their keysets haven't been considered as issues until recent times. For some reason there is this belief that GMK sets used to be perfect (I've been in this hobby since 2011 they have never been). That being said, end users and vendors should definitely be vocal towards GMK about fixing keycaps with defects (e.g. significantly warped spacebars that effectively interfere with stabilizers, injection issues, messed up legends etc.)

I havent been in the hobby as long as you and Ive experienced some gmk issues but it was more because the caps were sent in bags so they were badly scratched (gmk hf r2) but this is the first time Ive heard of warping. I always thought gmk to be the gold standard.

what do you mean "sent in bags"?
-
Well this cant get more recent than today. I guess no new news since "in color matching phase" 6 months ago. This was my first GMK GB in probably 2 years. Things have not gotten better. I would've hoped GMK would have streamlined the process or opened another factory. I guess the hobby hasn't grown as big as I thought. Oh well, you cannot rush a thing. I prefer quality and price....which means fast is not an option

GMK caps used to be shipped in bags and were damaged so they implemented the whole plastic trays to minimize shipping issues.

This is mostly something I see parroted on /r/mechanicalkeyboards rather than on GH. Like people will get super defensive of GMK on /r/MK

For what it's worth, i recently got GMK phosphorous and the spacebars were not warped. It's also something you can pretty easily fix with a hair drier if you do have a warped bar as others have mentioned before. ABS as a thermoplastic, shrinks as it cools. The molds are designed with this shrinkage in mind. Removing abs before its cooled causes it to warp and is most apparent on thin or long objects. i 3D print quite a bit and won't touch abs because of that issue. As far as injection molding goes I would guess removing them from the mold before completely cooled raises the possibility of warping issues.

Doesn't this method only work for PBT?

There's no particular reason that heating and reforming wouldn't work with ABS, but it does have a significantly higher glass transition temperature than PBT (~100 C vs ~60 C). I'd probably use a hot water bath rather than a hair dryer, but none of my recent spacebars are warped enough to bother.

Problem with ABS is that it becomes super shiny and usually warps even more when it gets hot.
Trying to fix bent spacebars usually just makes it worse.

I also think that gmk is just rushing making keycaps. And not for us consumers to get it faster but because there is too many gbs. They should just make longer queue for gbs and be more chill and have better qc

The year is 2099. At the dawn of a new century, God-Emperor Cyborg Trump has led Amerikkka through the fire of war against the sino-russo alliance of the rapidly forming far eastern Pangaean sub-continent. Atmospheric fires rage around the equator, driving mutants to the haven of the Arctic Circle nations as the threat of annihilation looms over the species. Newly emerged viruses, far flung mutations of the ancient SARS-Cov-2 variant, have ruined the human genome, giving rise to existential questions about the species ultimate fate.
Probes placed at the edge of the solar system send back data suggesting the presence of advanced life forms preparing to launch an invasion of Holy Terra, with fractured warring only worsening the probability of complete subjugation at the hands of these galactic overlords.
As poverty, disease, and war ravage the vast swathes of the planet, the rich find solace in deep underground hibernation chambers, hoping that their errant genetic modification testing will allow them to awaken as more than just a post-human sludge.
GMK Dracula has finished color matching. At the turn of the century, there is only misery.
-
@WetRacoon Omg I am dying.
Not of laughter, but of existential pain.

It'll be worth it guys don't you worry. Best set of 2020 - 2025.

1 year anniversary of GB start tomorrow lol.
-
Congrats on 1 year anniversary :thumb:
-
Can't believe it's now more than one year since I got into this GB. Few years ago I would laugh at signature plastics delaying sets and having lead time of 8 months. Now this GB is at least at 13 months, and I am like "4 months more will do I guess"
-
Looking forward to the 2nd year anniversary! ;D

At this point, you might as well open up 'R2'... sell a bunch of kits and just add it to your first order since production still hasn't started...

That would be the GIANT brain move right there. No sense leaving money on the table and letting flippers make it in the aftermarket when you can just increase the order quantity since nothing has actually been produced yet. I'd be shocked if GMK said "no, we don't want more orders and more money from you for something that hasn't started production yet". Everyone complains about flippers, out of stock everything and unfair extras sales, this is one of the few cases were that can be handled as a silver lining to the long delay.
-
Hell, what's another year of waiting for increased production to happen? ;D
-
Has it already been a year?! In the back of my mind I thought this gb ended like in March. 2021 lets go!
-
ill def plunk in for R1.2 lol
-
Crossing my fingers for a good news update today. Please please please
-
At this rate we may as well make R1 (Part 2) real - turns out I ended up regretting not getting the mod set the first time this was up for GB...
-
Count me in for R1.2 please take my money
-
Would love for R1.2 too! Got into the keyboard game after this gb ended and I love this set so much
-
Damn, the idea about R1.2 is actually pretty good. A year ago i didn't have a board to match dracula with, but now i would insta jump in. I hope something is doable if the production hasn't started yet. Maybe OP can talk to GMK and open the gates for more.
Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk

I think there will be almost 1000 base kits + other kits for sale as extras, so you will still will have chance to buy it when its done.
Anyway, it would be nice with some status update for colour matching progress.
-
You guys think it's a good idea to throw more money at a project that hasn't even been finilized for production? Or delivered to the R1 participants? Risk takers.

There isn't really much risk with a GMK groupbuy that was run through vendors.
GMK always delivers (even though their queue right now is quite big) and the vendors that handled this set are all well known and reputable.

I sort of doubt GMK would be willing to throw all their other clients (ie other GBs in their queue) under the bus and increase the wait times for those clients even longer just to manufacture another several thousand sets more than what were initially ordered because people demand an R1.2
I regret not ordering Nightmode with my preference for plainer looking sets these days but I know I'll have to do the extras gamble just like anyone else.
-
I doubt GMK even has a place in the production queue for Dracula at this point. They're still color matching long after they were supposed to have been done and shipped. We're just guessing about how feasible it would be to let more buyers in, unless the folks actually running this want to chime in.
-
Dunno gmk production workflow and how big the difference in producing twice the amount of sets is - definatelly not twice the time. As there are smed times etc.
But it was just a thought, certainly not goin to happen

Same here, regret not getting nightmode to go with ERR. I also need a second minify kit because I need two 2.75's... There should be a lot of extras, but I'm guessing it will be a bloodbath lol.
-
I'm a bit skeptical at the thought of adding another few thousand kits to an already massive GB, that still hasn't entered production over a year in.
Plus, like someone else mentioned, there are going to be loads of extras for this set.
-
imagine it takes another 8 months for this set to complete lol

-

I imagine never buying a GMK set again, because this is ridiculous.
This set takes so long because it has 8 custom colors that need to be matched.
And not only that but unfortunately GMK is having a lot of problems with their plastic suppliers rn due to the Covid-19 pandemic which increased the waiting time for the color samples a lot.
But honestly I'd rather have a well colormatched set and wait two years for it than having a rushed set that looks nothing like the renders in the end.
Other GMK sets usually have one or two custom colors so they don't take that long. Sets that use GMK standard colors are even faster.
Don't expect that this is the norm for GMK sets. It's an exception caused by the design choices of the set and the ongoing pandemic.
Also here's an update by Dixie:

So we're clarifying and giving updates on this set in a reddit post about another gmk set? This one has been radio silence for how long with the exception of "perpetually color matching" updates?
It would be great to hear something from the parties involved here, in the actual gb thread after a year of color matching and covid.
-
I have no problem waiting, but please for the love of God, request that GMK up their spacebar QC. Every covid era GMK set I've gotten ships with a 7U banana, which makes sets unusable on nice wkl boards.

It really is pretty piss poor. I mean how long does it take to leave an update? I'm not a hard man to please. I threw hundreds of dollars at thing, as we all did, and really haven't complained in a years time that I have nothing to show for it. The very least that could be done by the runners (and I mean the very least) is pop in at least once a month with a status update so I know what to expect and where things stand. That's just basic courtesy.
-
Meanwhile if you joined another keyset group buy, you get this sort of detailed information:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=104498.msg2942230#msg2942230
If you joined Dracula, you get:
We just received a package from GMK containing some samples for GMK Dracula. We have only opened the package and have not taken a look at the samples because they just arrived. Not all the samples we are waiting on are in this shipment. We are still waiting on some.
perpetual color matching.
-
Oh look! An update!
Before we get into the update, we would like to give some perspective on why this is taking so long for anyone who wants an explanation.
Dracula has 8 custom colors that had to be matched. Last year, sets with 2-3 custom colors would take about 4 weeks to receive each sample round. The combination of Dracula having so many colors to be matched, GMK already being overloaded last year, COVID-19 shutting down GMK and the plastic supplier for a few weeks, and regulatory safety measures even after they opened back up have all resulted in how long this is taking. 90% of the time has been us waiting to get the samples or just waiting for the samples to arrive to Nebulant and Pikku once they arrive.
Because the timeline of these samples is spread out amongst all of our weekly updates, we will compile it all here for you.
ROUND 1:
+ Oct 2019 - Colors submitted.
+ Early Feb 2020 - Received the first round of samples. 4 month wait.
+ Early Feb 2020 - Sent samples to Pikku.
+ Late Feb 2020 - Approved red and blue. Submitted adjustments for a second round of alphas, mods, pink, green, purple, and yellow. Right after the pandemic really started to shut down everything.
ROUND 2:
+ Late July - Received the second round of samples. 5 month wait.
+ Early August - Sent samples to Nebulant to measure and to Pikku.
+ First Week of Sept - No approvals. Submitted adjustments for a third round.
ROUND 3:
+ Mid Oct - We received alpha, modifier, and yellow samples. Within 5 weeks of submitting them, which seems to be back to the original timeline of samples from 2019.
+ Mid Oct - Sent samples to Nebulant and Pikku.
+ Early Nov - Approved modifiers and yellow(tentatively). Submitted adjustments for a forth round of the modifiers.
Now onto detailed information about the R3 samples.
Pikku and I have gone through the data from Nebulant for the latest round of samples. We are currently still waiting on the third round of the pink, green, and purple samples. We do not have an estimated arrival time, but we hope to have them soon because these were sent in around the same time as the alphas, modifiers, and yellow.
The three colors that we received this round were the third round of the alphas, modifiers, and yellow.
The alphas are approved and look fantastic.
We will be getting a 4th round of the modifiers because the color is just too dark at the moment. It meshes really well alongside the R2 alphas, which were also too dark, so we are going to ask that the R4 modifier be adjusted the same amount that the R3 alpha was. It is very important that the contrast between the alphas and mods be correct.
Because the pink, green, and purple arent too far behind, we are waiting until we receive them before we 100% confirm the approval of the yellow. We want to make sure it meshes well with those colors (if they are approved) first.
Below you can see which colors have been approved.
Alphas - R3 APPROVED ✔︎
Modifiers - Getting an R4
Red - R1 APPROVED ✔︎
Blue - R1 APPROVED ✔︎
Pink - Waiting for R3
Green - Waiting for R3
Purple - Waiting for R3
Yellow - R3 APPROVED TENTATIVELY ✔︎
White - STOCK COLOR ✔︎
We have not started compiling the color-matching document for this set because it is much larger and more complicated than others. We will try to get this done, but it may not be done until the color matching is complete.

Now THAT is an update. It's a real eye-opener for how far this process is apart from "slap together various colours of plastic" if you're doing it right.
-
How does it work with production que, will production start as soon as all colors are approved or will it have to wait for other keysets to be produced ahead?
-

It will have to wait until other keysets that were queued before have finished production.
But usually the production is pretty fast once it has started with QMK. It's just the waiting time that is so long rn.
-
Solid update, really gutted I didn't purchase some of the add-on modules. Hopefully there is a R2 at some point!

Is production queue scheduled before or after color matching? Given Dracula closed over a year ago I would assume it would have priority in the queue as soon as it's done color matching?

Most likely after because it doesn't make much sense to put a set into queue when they don't know how long the colormatching will take.

Same. There should be lots of extras though. Hoping to grab an extra minify kit and the night mode kit.

It's before, as crazy as that sounds. You're give a production slot some time down the line, which is also why designers/vendors are able to estimate date of delivery. But yeah, that goes out the window more times than not with custom colors.

Bets on which will come first, Dracula or a vaccine?
All jokes aside, hopefully they will get this set perfect and we will get a real update and ETA soon. Hold fast gentleman.

If n e one doesn't want to wait... I'll gladly snipe your spot. Otherwise, stoked for some extras, leggoooo.

And this is the difference between a good group buy and bad group buy. In a good group buy the color matching phase begins in IC and in the bad one color matching begins after people paid money and waiting to get the product on hand. The same bad managing happened to GMK Toxic, such a shame
-
I don't think anyone ever color matches during IC.

Name the GMK sets that began color matching during GB. Take your time, start back 8 years ago, let us know.

Here is the one DURING IC stage where guy ordering SECOND ROUND of samples to get the colors right to his renders - https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=101922.0
I think everyone who cares about customers and not just "cash grabbing" makes it either during IC (and keep in mind that we are talking about 2-3 colors sets) or at the beginning of GB but when u have an 5+ custom color sets you should have a color samples on hand on (during) IC stage IMO
And i've seen a lot of GMK sets that had color matching either during IC or at the start of GB, but sure, you can happily wait another year.. or two or three..
-
How about a set that has actually entered a GB phase?
"And i've seen a lot of GMK sets that had color matching either during IC or at the start of GB"
Wonderful, please post them. Surely a lot would be at least 10?
Im being pedantic here because 95%+ of the time prematch from GMK doesnt happen and I think at least deep down we both know that. Thats not to say its the correct thing to do and here we're in agreement. I think at least having the plastic chip in hand for a color standard would be a fantastic expectation for GBs as it would prevent my main pet peeve, which is where a color has been chosen from a standard such RAL or Pantone so everyone can view from a deck or on a color accurate monitor, and then changing from that color. That personally bothers me more than delays.

Buying a Pantone or RAL chip to match renders to the RAL/Pantone color (which anyone can do for $20) is not the same as getting GMK to color match to that Pantone/RAL chip. GMK did not do color matching during that IC.

What? GMK is not matching that set (at least judging from the thread) during his IC, he mentioned buying chips (physical color samples). Most group buys have chips prior to even creating the IC, or should anyway.
BUT - GMK can start colormatching before the GB concludes. However, it comes with a big cost and not many are willing to commit to that cost before knowing if their set will even meet MOQ or not. :)
Edit; also lol at dixie having GMK send the samples all the way to the US during covid, who in turn sends them all the way back to EU to pikku. :D

To add to that, the colors of this set only existed digitally, since they are from a coding colorscheme, so there isn't even any chip that fits perfectly to which GMK could match the color, so the process has to be this kind of iterative thing with the GB runner.

Please forgive me for not bothering reading like 8 pages of "reee where is my set"
I'm sure this has been posted before but I'd like to reiterate/let y'all know that color matching colors is time consuming (especially if they don't get it right on R1, which is quite often).
Each sample (one single color) takes like 3 weeks. So if there's 5 custom colors, that's 15 weeks. On top of all this, I'm sure GMK has had trouble sourcing certain plastics/colors (they did for GMK Coral).
To be 100%, I'd rather get accurate colors instead of half assed color matching with a "good enough" mindset. Your wait will be rewarded.

Thank you for the detailed reply. My bad for not reading through the whole thread.
I don't mind the wait times too much. I too would like a perfect set than a half assed one. I'm not familiar with the whole keycap designing process, but I understand some of it now.
Thanks to everyone involved for all your hard work.

The year is 2199. Humanity begins to wither as a spiteful universe awakens long forgotten evils to break it. War has ravaged half of the planet. The former "God-Emperor", a feckless con-man, now a sightless corpse sitting upon a throne, worshipped by the masses. Drooping eyes and open mouths look up adoringly, begging for salvation. Inbreeding ensures a rapid extinction amplified by lives lived in the wake of a nuclear fallout which blankets the seaboards of both Amerikka and the former Sino-Russian empire.
The flood of mutated genes from the equator overwhelmed the integrity of base line humans in their northern bastions. Within a generation the changes became ingrained, as the children of a previously pure species punished it through both karmic vengeance and guerilla warfare. What was left of the protected technological advancements began to crumble as the leftovers of a once great civilization began its great and unstoppable reversal.
Almost a hundred years ago probes detected a significant presence near Pluto. Their measurements were not an error. Colonies outside of Terra went dark within a year. No contact. No warning. Not even a death rattle. The enemy now stands at the door of a planet collapsing under the weight of its filth and corruption. A final death blow from an existential threat like no other. The Great Annihilator has come.
The rich fared no better as they emerged from their preservation pods. In their state they were worse off than the mutants, but their arrogance ensured that this did not matter. Without the protection of the state, ethics became a long forgotten concept, a fashion in passing. Now lovingly known as the Slug Lords, they took what was left of the genetically stable population for their own benefit...and pleasure. Behind their decayed beady eyes lay the hope that they could use these clean humans as bargaining chips with the alien. Their hope is misplaced.
The year is 2199 and the end is nigh. In time all things must pass. The species spasms, gasping for breath. GMK Dracula is still color matching.
-
I find it reassuring that they are not compromising on the quality of the colours. I am really looking forward to getting my hands on this set next year! ;D
-
Look forward to getting this in 2022...
GMK queue/lead time sounds like 8 months best case, and considering colours aren't finalised and then shipping after production on top....
See you in next January!
(And good stuff WetRacoon!)
-
This should be done much sooner than next January - once color matching is done I'd reckon it'd get production priority in GMK's queue given that it's I believe the oldest GMK group buy that hasn't been fulfilled yet.

Latest update:
https://omnitype.co/news/1-15-2021
Unfortunately looks like there needs to be one more round of color matching as the mod gray was way off. All the other colors look like they were approved.

Given how much time has passed and the amount of interest that there must be in this set, is it likely that there will be lots of extras available after launch so we dont have to hope for R2 or get depressed by r/Mm?
-
is it likely that there will be lots of extras available after launch
We know exactly how many extras there will be based on the numbers given.
938 Base kits were ordered extra over customer orders, but that number is split across vendors... If the interest remains once we get the set delivered I wouldn't expect a few hundred sets per vendor to last particularly long at all.

Would the GB organisers or GMK open the group buy again once all the colours have been finished and give it an extra boost in numbers? Does that ever happen?

I absolutely love this idea... kind of like running a r2 before r1 is done. I for one would definitely go in... even if the r2 is at extras prices, I'd be willing to pay up just to guarantee that I can get a set.
Would this be possible? I imagine a ton more sets would get sold if it re-opened or ran as a r2 after color matching is complete.
-
I think this is the 2nd itaration of this idea :)
-
I really hope they can do an R2 while they're color matching or something. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to take my chances on getting extras hopefully
-
It makes no sense to start R2 any time soon. Vendors have bought in a good number of base and child kits.
R2 will simply kill them. Just hope you get a extra set when they are sold

Yeah same here Id love to see the option of an R2, I want in on all modules but that probably wont be possible with extras and will be pretty difficult/expensive on the after market.

That doesnt make any difference though, kits havent been manufactured yet so that money thats allocated for extras can just go towards the new customers orders. In return vendors would get that money they put aside for extras back. Or just keep extras the same, most GMK sets will sell out eventually.
-
do r2 because it will benefit me personally
nah
-
With over 3k base kits there will be extras, don't worry. That said, throwing another couple thousand kits on top of the ones that haven't been produced yet for a "round 2" probably isn't good for anyone tbh.
We're already over a year of color matching and nothing has been produced..
-
better get used to it, with the community growing every day and the rising in GMK sets the past few years, 12+ months will be the default lead time.
some of you guys remember better than me that we had massdrop and maybe one or two smaller vendors running one GMK every (other) month, now we're looking at multiple vendors for every region and 5-8 GMK sets per month.
-
do r2 because it will benefit me personally
nah
True, I would benefit... but so would the creator and vendor. They would make more money. But screw that, right?
-

I think they'll get even more sales if they get sets in people's hands before running a second round, so I suspect that's what they'll be waiting for.
-
think too much

They gotta sell off the 1000 extras. Right now the reason the vendors don't sell extras at 220 isn't because people wont pay. I presume ROI is fantastic for extras, but that gets diluted if there's more.
That said, you seem like a smart person. Since you've already figured out the ins and outs of the keeb business on your own........go be a vendor. Or at least make your keeb expenditures back selling a portion per month.

Wow, what a snarky-ass comment to a legitimate idea/question. I bring up the r2 idea precisely because I'm NOT "a smart person" and I don't know "the ins and outs of the keeb business." Is it not logical to think that if this set ran another round during a 2.5-3 year production cycle that all parties involved would make more money? I take it YOU'RE the "smart person" with all 1200 posts... so why don't you tell us then? Do you honestly think they wouldn't make more $ selling another 500+ kits and then extras along with that than they would by keeping the status quo? Why would anyone care about ROI on extras if everyone ends up with more $ in their pockets? Nevermind that they'll have extras after another round as well...
-

I'll expand further on my take above that the vendors would make more money if they wait to deliver, which I think addresses your questions.
So the vendors have 1000 extra sets to sell, that they've already paid for. They need to sell these sets to someone.
If they run an R2 right now, those people who want the set will buy in and the vendors have to decide if they buy more extras or just it on what they already have on order. What is the demand going to be like, since they just allowed everyone who was keen to buy at the group buy price? The set will get made and delivered pretty quickly and most demand for it was satisfied with the additional group buy run.
Those extras are then something the vendors will likely sell over time, but won't sell as quickly so will take up inventory space. This costs them money.
I'm not a vendor, nor have ever spoken to one or even considered running my own group buy... But I would bet that the margins on group buy sets aren't great while the margin on extras is pretty good. So if they allow people to buy in now they actually shoot themselves in the foot as they can't sell their extras as easily.
Vendors absolutely care about ROI on extras. They'd have anticipated that return when they made their investment and would not want to destroy their own profit margins.
Now, if they wait and do not open the buy up again for a second round, the demand will be satisfied by the extra kits they have on order. Likely that those kits won't be enough to satisfy demand, so in another few months they do run another round, and everyone buys in, and the vendors buy extras as usual. Considering the set has actually been delivered and people have seen it, this is likely to generate increased demand over a set that has never been seen before, so sales have the potential to be much higher than an extra round opened before it delivers. Then a year later that gets delivered and the vendors sell their extras again.
So for vendors, satisfying demand with an additional buy right now is an awful business decision. Existing customers who paid in 2019 are left wondering why they bothered joining all that time ago and have been through five rounds of colour matching only for other people to reap the benefits of their patience and get the product for the same price with no wait and much less uncertainty.
The only people that are happy are those that buy in now, because they buy in at a cheaper price for a product delivered faster and that they've seen samples of from colour matching.
-

To answer some of your question I'm sure everyone all around would like to make more money but for every set that has ran in the past (except for DMG off the top of my head, I might be missing some I don't pay attention to all sets) there has been ~ 1 year wait before an R2 and it ran in the same manner - orders open for ~ 30 days then the wait.
Vendors are trying to make keysets that are available as in stock but with GMK this is really tough given the number of sets waiting in the queue and their slow manufacturing. If you go to the keycap subforum there is a post by GMK Andy that said their machinery manufactures one keycap at a time. They have multiple machines running, but you can see why it's not so simple as just throw on another few thousand orders for instant R2.
I think a more realistic ask is seeing if Dracula could run immediately by another manufacturer. Cafe did this after its GMK run with Infinikey.
-
Thank you itsmartin and directheatedtriode for the explanations... actually makes sense... I didn't factor in the cost of holding the sets in inventory. That being said, given how long ago this gb was and how manic keycap extras sell out now vs back when the ic first got introduced, I can't imagine that a vendor should be very worried about having to hold onto a ton of inventory for very long.
I do understand the salt that those who held off since the original gb would feel... perhaps a vendor running an 'r2' would lose some goodwill by doing so... but I feel that running another round at a higher price would help alleviate some of this as well.
I know the suggestion to do an r2 most likely doesn't make sense, but I was thinking that perhaps a new precedent could be set given the how unusually long this particular set has been running for.
-

Polite questions have gotten good answers....but "screw that, right?" Ok, here's a better answer.
Lets assume two things we don't know-the designer wants to do an R2 at some point and is flexible about timeline. Yeah, the 1000 R1 extras will sell out pretty fast even with an R2. Selling an R2 soon and at a higher price like you'd suggested will piss off the R1 buyers because the aftermarket price drops on R2 announcements, the people who want to buy R2 won't like the higher price, and the biggest issues remain opportunity cost and margins. It's best for vendors to have a kit make MOQ, there's a big opportunity cost if you dont, but that really isn't Omnitype's problem anymore-their monthly sales are reliably huge.
you've seen that pricing at high MOQ, say 1000 base kits, lowers the price of the kit: that's how base kits under 120 USD happen, vs MOQ 250 where the base kit is at 140+. The price drops continue happening at even higher order amounts-they're just not passed on to the customer anymore like Drop used to years ago. If you're a big time vendor, the best thing you can do is price at good price point, and then not just make MOQ, but get 3000+ orders, and Omnitype does this more as often as not in the past year. Then you're paying even less per kit as you've unlocked lower prices at each tier going from 1500 to 2000 to 3000 (which is why sales with extras are often at or near round numbers) and when you buy extras, they're costing you possibly 100$ a kit less than you're selling them for and even that's still way under aftermarket. Extras are where the money is if you've got the capital. Everyone wins: people get cheap kits as you priced at high MOQ, you made a pile of money.
Let's say it goes as you figure, and I think you're right. The extras sell at GB+50% or so, and sell out in minutes or less. Aftermarket hits ~300 per base. 1000 people on discord insta here and reddit all ask for extras. Pikku thinks up some new kits, maybe? Furthermore, they can slot in R2 possibly on shorter notice. Something like GMK White Wolf cancelation happens again-you've got a set with good potential on deck. An R2 gets run then. It's priced low, there's tons of sales, profit is as expected, and in the meantime, they sell 560 of the base kit of this month (tuzi) in the opening day and are on track for another 3000+ base kits.
Lets say you run an R2 now, and price it at higher...140? You piss off a set of the R1 buyers. You devalue the extras you've purchased although yeah, they'll probably sell out anyways (caveat below). You decrease the likelihood of selling huge amounts, because you're pricing the kit higher, and of the top 10 kits of all time in sales, all had fairly cheap price relative to kit design and high MOQ at the outset with the exception of GMK Rainy Day. Those lower sales numbers increase the price you buy at at, and the extras margin is a huge potential profit. It's also one less set Omnitype could promote, probably get at least 1500 base sales with a chance that a set's a hit. The benefit of this is...some people don't have to wait for R2? They're not clearly making more money w Drac R2 than running some other set.
Also, at some point, the keyset bubble bursts. You're not always gonna be able to sell a GMK sealed kit and double your money in a year. Presumably when in stock sales increase and GMK can meet demand? Keyset futures right now are unreal. Keyset futures back in 2018 solidly beat my mutual funds. The moment extras aren't an easy flip, FOMO drops, the extras sales are going to slow way down-and then the price has to drop on extras.

Christ these replies are getting longer than waiting for these caps to be color matched.

Will I get these caps before 2022 hmmm

R6 here we gooooooooo

some of you guys remember better than me that we had massdrop and maybe one or two smaller vendors running one GMK every (other) month, now we're looking at multiple vendors for every region and 5-8 GMK sets per month.
I member' the before-fore times. Seems like production capabilities haven't increased in proportion to demand.

AFAIK our group buys are only a tiny subset of the caps that GMK actually manufactures.

can't wait to see this one day

Yooooo. Hear me out. What if... we wait two years for a set then it doesnt match the renders 😂

just in case you didn't read the update on omnitypes website.
GMK DRACULA
IN COLOR MATCHING PHASE
We have unfortunate news that we dread to have to give. The round 5 modifier sample was not right. The sample was just as bad as the round 4 sample that we clearly stated was unacceptably wrong, but somehow round 5 was just as wrong. We submitted our thoughts on Tuesday for an unprecedented round 6 sample. Round 5 only took a little over 2 weeks to receive, so hopefully this one will be quick as well.
Below you can see a photo of the 5 rounds of samples in order. We are showing you this so you can understand how far off the round 4 and 5 samples were and how they were simply not acceptable to use in the final product. No matter how difficult the decision was. The photo is only the show the comparison between the modifier samples and not to perfectly represent how they look in real-life. Some of these samples may seem like they are right, but we are matching each color to be part of the overall palette and not independently. The relationship and contrast between the alphas and modifiers is very important, which is why we are going to such great lengths to get it right.
We submitted our thoughts and reiterated for a 3rd time now, the changes that needed to be made from the ROUND 3 sample. Round 3 was very close to being correct, but was just a little bit too dark. We provided in depth measurements and adjustments to do everything we could to help them make the changes, however, the samples following round 3 were incredibly over lightened to the point that they could possibly be mistaken for the alphas, which is forcing us to have to get another round.
We are committed to getting these colors as perfect as we can to live up to the design that all of you expect to get.
-
R5 samples came in really quickly according to the timelines on the site, I was hoping that R6 would be just as fast but it seems not. Hopefully that is good news for the colour being correct when it does arrive.
-
I think it's great you are committed to get the colors right, I love this colorway and would be severely disappointed if the colors were as far off as the color samples so far are.
BTW, I feel like R3 might be too saturated too, besides being too dark, but hard to judge for me from photos.
It's not at all the runner's fault for how long this takes, some seem to imply it is.
-
Also adding to the I don't care when it comes out, I'd much rather have a set that was perfectly color matched.
-
This GB is ****ed. This will be your grand kids' first GMK set, if it ever gets shipped.
-
Still hopeful I'll get my hands on this set this year ;D I expect the sets to be on point when it comes to colour which is better than having colours that don't remotely look anything like the renders
-
The year is 2030. Apple just released the iPhone 22, it is 1mm thinner with a 2% smaller notch. It sells 1 billion units. All taxi's and ubers have been replaced with autonomous Tesla's. All newborns are setup with a facebook account from birth. GMK Dracula has just finished it's 69th round of color matching, production is anticipated to begin within the next few years.

It'll be well worth it! Even if it takes three years I'm still waiting for this masterpiece! the holy grail of GMK
-
I bet if you ran a DCS Dracula group buy right now, Signature Plastics would ship it before GMK, even with GMK having a year and a half head start.

-
Surprised GMK hasn't prioritized getting the modifier samples out after all this time... Numb to it now, best set of 2022
-
18 months...
I think its reasonable now to ask for those running this group buy to insist on prioritization from GMK.
It doesnt have to be entitled, its simply an egregious amount of time to wait on a vendor of this reputation and COST to fulfill their end of the contract. A factory could have been started from the ground up, moulds created, and product delivered in this time.
Time for GMK to get a move on.
-
I think they have priority in production queue ... when samples are approved
-
Last Samples let's go!
-
hopefully color matching with gmk improves over time with regards to expediency and efficiency
i understand the delays are just an unfortunate byproduct stemming from the current nature of the color matching process, but i definitely think steps can be taken to reevaluate, iterate on, and improve the overall process to hopefully avoid situations like these in the future
though it would take a concerted effort from both the manufacturer and vendor side, which i don't see happening unfortunately
it seems like currently, both sides are just fine blaming the process for the delays and passing the problem down to the customers, which is a shame
-

GMK is usually pretty good at colormatching.
This set is just an exception because it has so many custom colors. Most sets just have two or maybe three colors that have to get matched.
In addition to this the color matching phase fell right into the Covid pandemic which caused all those delays (afaik GMK had a lot of troubles with their plastic suppliers during that time).
This isn't the norm at all. For most sets color matching is finished after the first two sample rounds which usually takes around a month at max.
-
well hoping things go well we're slated for a June 2021 shipment date according to Omnitype.
as long as I see it this year.

Yes, round 2 when nobody still knows what color the set actually is. Thats pretty high on the alternative chart!
-
So what is the projected delivery date? The latest Omnitype update says June 2021.
-
So what is the projected delivery date? The latest Omnitype update says June 2021.
Two months ago they made that update, so that will depend on when they expected colour matching to be completed and if they can make their production slot still... But realistically they won't have an exact date yet.
I imagine that now they're happy with colours they've told GMK, and then GMK will give an update on when production will be and then they can share if its any different.

You're right it wouldn't, since they'll still get their set and other people would have the opportunity to jump in too.
Or did you want your keyset to stay exclusive and have small numbers for some reason? Why would that be?

Ya, we want the keyset to stay exclusive for now because we did our time in the trenches.
I am sure this set will be ran many more times like GMK Laser - IF the set comes out nicely which is why a vendor would not open the floodgates now. Risk. R2's exist and usually have small revisions. And who even knows if GMK can just double or triple a production order. I don't know, I'm no hamster scientist.
This has been talked about into the ground. There are walls of text a couple of pages back, avail yourself. New subject :))

No vendor will care about how much time you invested waiting for their product. If they feel there is a way to make more profit they will.

The year is 2299. Much of the planet lays barren, bereft of the rich ecological and artificial wonders which had defined it for so long. The cults of its leaders now withered down to but hundreds, huddled in underground caverns, forsaking their sisters and brothers, devoted still to their immeasurably irrational cause. Pallid skin heaves with each breath, a scorched atmosphere turning the sun from life-giver into life-taker. Radiation. Terra. Death.
The poles did not fare much better, as one hundred years of rebellion and civil war left nothing but a wreckage of lost hope, hope for a rescued future. Hope for survival. What wandered the vast frozen research facilities now wasnt Homo Sapiens. It was Homo Abominis. What redeemable aspects of the human form there were before were now lost to time, and this newer more savage form
it retained the worst of us. To rape and to pillage. This was the new destiny.
It would be dishonest to claim the state of the globe was mankinds doing alone; the Great Annihilator had ensured that it drank deeply from the wound of a dying animal. None saw their true form. All that was ever visible was the monstrous, eldritch ships, hung dark in the sky as feeding cables strung like lights met the surface of the planet. The alien must have been disappointed to see a planet which had consumed itself, when they had such hunger to consume it themselves. This did not stop them from taking specimens for their own experiments.
It could be said that there was still some improvement on this dying world; damnation was equal. Damnation for the poor. Damnation for the rich. Income equality vanished, along with income. The Slug Lords, ruinous pits of lust and consumption, using the desperate and poor for their own vile needs grasped at their rule for a decade. Suffice to say, the alien did find plentiful nutrition when they turned down the offer from the shadow of the formerly rich; their phallic feeding tubes instead buried themselves into their negotiators, the soft protein driving the war engines of the Annihilator towards its next inexorable conquest.
We find ourselves here then. At the end of all stories. Perhaps the universe is
what was that? The earth shudders in a dozen locations. Secret vaults open. Salvation may lay inside. There is more to tell.
The year is 2299. Dracula
has finished color matching.

just to hop on, if you personally see added value in your purchase of a consumer product by virtue of others not having access to it, IMO that is such a miserable mentality. But hey, at the end of the day I guess that's what Group Buys create, a special sense of belonging and exclusivity.
I hope for everyone in on this GB's sake that the colours turn out great, and more round(s) are offered up to those that missed out so anyone can enjoy what will hopefully be an excellent set.
...just wanted to devolve the thread a little more ;)

Was hoping an update from the omnitype site. But its still the april update. I hope the ETA is in 2021.

Seems like an update was posted on the Timelines. It's estimated to ship from GMK in early August, and to customers in September.
https://omnitype.com/blogs/timelines/gmk-dracula
Still a bit disappointing given that it's going to be almost 2 years since GB once it ships, and I was hoping for higher production priority from GMK, but it's likely that they're constrained by the lead times of their plastic resin supplier and that GMK themselves can't do much about that. It's also 3000 sets, which is a lot.

I hear what you're saying but I'm just ecstatic that it is even going to exist while I'm still alive. For a bit it was looking like it was the keyset of vampires, for vampires.
-
I guess if everything I read is correct I should be getting Dracula and Cyberspace right around the same time or at least within a couple months of each other.
Gonna go from none of it to all of it. lol
Now I just have to make it through the next few weeks resisting the urge to order the R2 of Dual Shot...

i'm really happy to get this set soon, it's my first gmk set and for a few moments i was a afraid to not see this exist😥

Market value of this set will be $500 due to the numerous color matching

i have 2 base kits on order and i would be very happy if vendors were able to increase their initial order for more extras so that more people could get in on this GB. i missed out on the darling gb (was traveling and forgot to buy) and it would have been awesome if there were more extras to go around.

That's a fair point to make.
Plenty of people do have complete sets of OG Hyperfuse in hand. The way the keys were handled is completely different from "modern" GMK, too, so slightly different situation.

hyperfuse and toxic defo took longer, and there are a few that took like 18-20 months
there are a number of others that are looking like they may end up taking as long or longer
this is definitely the longest one with no drama attached, at this point

No way to tell unless you see it in natural sunlight.

We spent many hours tweaking these renders to be the best representation of the real-life product. Do not trust photos you see of this product.
-
Awesome that this is shipping. Let's hope that after so many stages, color-matching is good.
I am confused about the Minify kit.
40s commonly have a 1.25 r3 key to the left. In this kit, there is only Tab. But a 1u tab is included for r2... So... why? Here we have 4 Esc keys for, likely, only 1 being used, but also only 1 r3 1.25 even though folks commonly use Fn or Control there, AND it clashes with a redundant key for r2.
This feels very short-sighted: it creates wasted keys and removes compatibility with common keymaps. It 'forces' a 1.25 Tab at r3 and thus a redundant Tab at r1 or one of too many Escapes.
40s kits need to do be better.

Looks like people are receiving their sets now.

Is it me or do the alphas look way too blue?

Unwritten rule of r/mk:
The first person to get a new GMK set and post a photo of it must take it under the absolute worst lighting conditions possible and with every dumb color correction function of your phone camera enabled to make the set look extra ****ty.
And then a bunch of idiots that don't understand how photography lighting works will come along and complain about how bad the color matching is.
Happens literally every single time now.

I still have that one garbage photo of GMK Solarized Dark burned into my eyes. I can't unsee it no matter how hard I try

I also took some quick pictures of the approved color samples under various lighting conditions.

Oh wow I completely underestimated the difference lighting makes... Lesson learnt.

So true. I still remember that green Bingsu posted somewhere...
-
Yes, but when the color matching really is bad, all the photos posted make the colors look bad, you get the set in your own hands and it still looks bad...after all that there will *still* be people defending the color matching and telling everyone that the set looks perfect and none of them understand lighting. This goes both ways.

Is it bad that I think the set looks fine there?
-
Solarized Dark's colors by themselves are fine. But when you compare it to the renders and what people were expecting to receive... oh boy. There's a reason there was so much backlash against the set when it released. GMK Necro is another set that was very off from its renders.

Sure colormatching can fail if you do it wrong or use the wrong methods and did so in the past for some sets.
Sol Dark was probably my favorite fails since it looked nothing like the renders but still ended up being a really nice looking set.
Necro and Plum are a different story though...
But with the technology that Omnitype (and many other groupbuy runners) now use for their colormatching it is very unlikely to get a set that has the colors that far off.
Nebulant (the guy who does all the colormatching) uses a spectrophotometer to match the samples. You can't really get more accurate results than that.

Okay, to set everything straight. Here are two shots I took and white balanced. Taken in natural overcast light.

Ugh, that's awful. Everyone please send me your GMK Dracula sets without opening them. I will take them off your hands for free.
(Those pics look fantastic. Look forward to getting my kit from Omni/Dixie.)

Looks amazing imo

Those look wonderful! Accurate photos are the best photos; no need to boost saturation/gamma when the source material is already gorgeous.

The accent colors are so beautiful and vibrant. They downright appear to be glowing in direct sunlight.

We all know that can be a render when it comes from pikku-allu haha
On a more serious note I would love to see how err module looks

Hoping to hop on extras

Got my set and I'm stunned by the colours! This was definitely worth the wait. Loving the options and variety the kits bring.

How did you get it if it still on the way from Germany to Omnitype? Or i too late to know they already got it and shipping to customers already started? :))
-
Just received my set today. Damn it looks good. Looks exactly like my vscode color palette. Thanks Pikku and everyone else for making this happen.

European orders shipped to customers this week

Got my set on Wednesday, the colors are amazing, exactly how I came to love dracula in emacs, and the highlight colors are really bright popping!
-
Glad you guys are liking the set, always nice to hear comments :) It does look a lot different in person compared to most photos, the colors are really hard to capture.
Here are some shots of Nightmode & ERR! modules in use:

Worth the two year wait.

Finally have my hands on Dracula. It is honestly amazing! 100% worth the wait
-
Oh boy I didn't think my Dracc would ever arrive but it did ✨
-
Waited a while, but its worth it!
-
I appreciate the effort it took to achieve this level of accuracy! Majority of pictures circulating right now don't do Dracula justice.

It is honestly a very beautiful set. I imagine there will be a R2 in future, given all the colour matching is done now! ;D

I'm really trying hard to reserve my judgement until I get the set.... so far the pictures I have seen have the alphas looking more like a denim blue than the IC/renders. I can't say I'm not worried. That said, the overwhelmingly positive response from ppl who have the set keeps me hopeful!

Anyone received there's from mykeyboard.eu yet? Specifically UK buyers?

Only orders above 135 GBP (vat excluded) can be shipped atm. Your order total needs to be about 200 with the Belgium VAT to be shipped until they receive their UK VAT number.

My order total was over 250 with tax, but they did refund some money a week or two ago with a very basic "dracula tax refund" message or similar via PayPal.
Regardless, if they are going to keep my money and my item indefinitely, they ought to be contacting me to let me know!

If you got the VAT refund your item was processed.
Check your spam folder for tracking information, else feel free to get in contact with the support-channel on their discord or send a ticket via e-mail.
There are many GB's that came in the last 2 weeks, and shipping is slower than usual as they have to juggle the different GB's.

OK, I checked my junk email and indeed I have a lot of emails from DHL asking for customs payment. Luckily tomorrow is the last day before they return the item, so I have paid now and should hopefully receive the item soon.
I am a little concerned that emails from mykeyboard.eu might be going to spam, despite having had email conversations with them previously. I'm still waiting to hear on replacement keys for the extra mods set from KAM Little Pilot...

OK! gotta eat my shoe on this one. Colors look great in person. Excellent job all around and worth the wait.

Like GMK Ashes the blue-gray of the alphas on Dracula is fairly hard to capture accurately with my phone's camera so I figured I wouldn't post any pics of my set/kits for exactly this reason lol
It really did turn out very close to the renders imo and the stickers were a fun touch.

:D

Just got mine - colors look perfect - appreciate the attention to detail here even if it resulted in delays.
-
Love how it turned out
-
I hope they sell the extras soon! Got in on this GB before I was into 40% keyboards and now I need a Minify kit

Yes. There will always be extras.
-
Ready to wait another year here. Mine got shipped with Fedex who are having HUGE delays. It was due to arrive on Tuesday, still nowhere to be seen :))
-
Add me as another who's only recently gotten into the hobby and will be looking for extras
-
Extras today at 2pm central
-
I assume Omnitype? Well guess I missed those, lol. I'm in the UK anyway 😭

Yeah and don't feel too bad, it was a rather frustrating experience. Shop crapped out, and the site didn't even work for me on mobile. I was able to grab a base kit after like 11 minutes, but wasn't able to get any of the other kits I wanted.
-
I had the same experience on Omnitype today. Site wouldnt let me add to cart, despite being on at 2p central time sharp. Disappointed
Im hoping Dracula is back for another round because Im not paying what people are asking for on the secondary market.
-
Honestly seems like the perfect moment to launch R2, I'm sure the MOQ would get filled in a day with the hype from the people getting their sets in.
-
R2 will take three years to ship, who's still in?
-
Got stuck in a captcha loop for 10m yesterday and err and highlight modules were instantly sold out by the time I finally got through. If anyone wants to get rid of theirs send me a PM I will gladly buy em just name a price.
-
Were there only like 10 minify extras? :( Also had the same bad experience with Omnitype, I was able to add to cart but then it wouldn't let me check out, and by the time I got to the captcha it was sold out.
-
Im still in. Will pay $300 for core + highlight module if anyone has extra.

You can just wait for extras. Considering the base kits pricing, the MOQ seems insane for R2
-
r2 where? all i could find was sold-out extras.
-
V2 is being sold by Omnitype here:
https://omnitype.com/collections/gmk-dracula-v2-0
Look at the kits carefully before buying. They're not the same as the kits shown in this thread, and I don't think there was an IC thread to discuss the new kitting. I noticed that some keys I use moved out of the base into an Extension kit in V2.
