Please bring back the laminated GeekHack Keycap mats.
You sold them right before I joined GH. By the time I saw other peoples, and wanted to get one for myself you had already stopped selling them.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see them sold again.
-
+1
Never had a chance to pick up a laminated one. I printed one out but laminated would be better. :)
-
I'm in for one too, would love to see these for sale again.
-
Yes please!
-
I'd pick one up if they were made available again. :)
-
I have a laminated mat (thanks, skcheng!), and they are the most useful thing ever. At least when sorting keysets. :)
-
Is there something special that I'm missing here? Why doesn't someone just buy a laminator and make these?
-
I got mine in the original batch, and it actually made it all the way down here with only a small crease in the middle of one end. Eminently useable, and I check every keycap set with it :)
-
I'm definitely in for one if they get reproduced!
-
+..... lost count of my spot in this thread... like 7?

I really want one of these as well.

I've considered making and selling some but didn't know if there were any 'rights' involved.

Didn't boost do the original run of laminated ones?
-
I'd love them too.
I'm sure if there's a rights issue it wouldn't be hard to recreate the overall idea with half a day in Illustrator.

Yes it was Boost who had them made

I, too, would be interested in this.
<_<
>_>
I could just laminate one myself, but I've never seen a printable. Well, I've never really looked for the file if it is out there somewhere.

I think there are links to the pdf in the OP of the simple answers thread.

heres the OP

Printed one out on two pages and taped it together, ghetto but works. Would still buy one if it was laminated.

Ah, danke.
Eh, I'd hate to tape two pieces of paper together. Indeed, ghetto, even in laminate. I must find bigger sheets of paper!

Forget Ghetto style, would rather like someone to organize a GB on this and supply it already laminated on one sheet. I'll buy at least 10 off that person easily :thumb: .
-
Why doesn't someone just go to a local printing company and ask how much it'd be for 100-200?
like sheet, (see what i did there?) don't make me steal company paper/ink using the high end printer and spend a **** ton of time laminating these by hand
-
For what its worth - until a GB happens or if you want your own copy now - you can toss that .PDF on a thumb drive and take it to your local Fedex Office/ Office Depot/ whatever similar service you have locally they can generally print it on the appropriate legal size paper and laminate for a few bucks.

For people with spare time on their hands or are living in the city districts but for those stuck out in the fvcking desert, no chance ever to have this done >:( .

If i3oilermaker doesn't want it, I'll organize a groupbuy for them. I want to start making a couple groupbuys happen and this would be a good starter one anyways.

There's something bubbling in the pipelines... SoonTM

Cool. I'll leave it alone then :)

agreed! and +1 to thank skcheng on the hookup! he's the man!

For the record, it seems that i3oilermaker does not object to making them, just that the shipping is a pain as they get folded during transit, and sometimes accidentally cut by overenthusiastic keyboard enthusiasts slicing the envelope open.

I think mailing tubes is the answer here.

You bet :thumb: !!!!
One thick tube to house 10 laminated beauties, know it will rapidly fill out that tube once they're all inserted (like the Diesel ;) ) but better crammed into something safely than letting them wing it out in the wild by themselves.
Don't care what the cost is for shipping as long as it gets to Crap Town Australia, in one piece 8) .

I would think any 'rights' related issues would be related to the designer, no? Didn't flynn design these?
-
These mats should definitely make a comeback.
-
Both 8.5 x 11 and A4 size key checker sheets by samwisekoi here, for those with printers:

I didn't even think about that, just assumed it was like an open source thing made for GH.

They are available on the GH Dropbox link right here, https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kd9d7fz38fayqa6/AABgkeg60xyXiR5lbPcW3Tv1a/keycap_paper_11x17.pdf?dl=0 , so if someone were to run it, hopefully they would run it w/ minimal profit / no profit.

oh, i had those made long long ago with boost and inlikeflynn (was it a fundraiser for new hardware? i completely forget..). iirc the package involved a small keycap set, stickers and the laminated keycap sheet. we actually bought enough laminate for a second batch, but they never got made -- the laminator guy kept going on vacation or something.
the source files are still sitting on the forum and i believe i have copies in the gh dropbox. i vaguely remember putting a couple thousand dollars down on these kits though, and it took quite a while to make it back. i think it was something like a dollar and change per sheet at qty of 150.
(oh, missed pg.2 yay someone found it on the dropbox)

here's another black from the past from the dropbox:

You should send that to baldgye. He mentioned how much he LOVES the "Keep calm and _____" stuff

You can make these yourself, pretty cheaply. Let's assume you are able to print legal paper and have access to a color printer.
Thermal laminator: $21.65 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BUI5QWS/
(I have the slightly pricier TL901.)
Laminating sheets, 20 pack: $6.73 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ZDL0M0/
Why this is less than a nice key cap set. Sold for $2 each this could even be profitable.
But then: I found that, once I had a laminator, I started laminating all sorts of things. It's awesome.
EDIT: I went ahead and ordered some laminating sheets. 20 is more than I'll need. If you want a laminated version of "keycap_paper_legal_v3.pdf" shoot me a PM. I think $5 shipped should about do it.

Why have I never looked up how much laminators cost? I foresee much laminating in my future...

This is the laminator I use -> 1701720EZ (www.amazon.com/GBC-HeatSeal-Pinnacle-Laminator-1701720EZ/dp/B00125KHLE/ (http://www.amazon.com/GBC-HeatSeal-Pinnacle-Laminator-1701720EZ/dp/B00125KHLE/)) 8)

Alright, I've got ten of these printed and laminated. One is for me and three are sold. I can easily print ten more. Who else wants one? Only $5 shipped!

When you do ship them, make sure you make it clear that the package should not be bent, and that it should be opened carefully.
So many accidents happened when someone cut the top of the package open and accidentally cut through the mat.
-
Thanks rowdy. I'll try mailing these in flat envelopes first. I may throw a piece of cardboard in there if it doesn't drive the shipping cost too high.
I can also mail these in a cardboard tube if that is any better.

This is cool XMIT - but please open a thread in the classifieds
