It is a solemn religious holiday, on which we honor the martyr, St. Valentine, who defied a Roman emperor to perform the sacrament of marriage for Christians who loved each other and would not defy God.

It's unfortunate that commercial interests have given it the same treatment as Christmas, but those things happen.

And here I thought that women trimmed their pubic hair to go to the beach. (Back when they sang the song "Itsy-bitsy Teeny-weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini", they weren't thinking about a bikini so tiny that a woman would have to shave to wear it!)

Making love, on the other hand, was something people have done for millions of years (or hundreds of thousands of years, depending on how you define "people") without having to trim their hair. Or fur.
