Nope those are the randomness and awesomeness that are clickclack. Not even sure what all the options were as he had many different choices for those keys. You will just have to keep an eye out and see what else the master put out :)

Hi, i'm new to Geekhack, and i've been browsing through all these awesome keycaps! I've just dipped my feet into mech keyboards by buying the CM Storm Quickfire :D

But it still looks kinda bland.. So i've been wondering. Where can i get my hands on this (ಠ_ಠ), Nyancat backspace, and the longcat?! I'm thinking to buy the billiards set. Just a click away from buying it. HALP!!

Welcome to Geekhack and like i3oiler said, you've just missed the Nyan Cat group buy so will have to wait for the extras (if the organizer has any) or when someone put them up for sale in Classifieds.

As for the Billiard set, buy it!  It's a really nice set.  I have 2 of them. lol

The profile of the longcat is designed for the enter on the ten key.  It will physically fit on the delete key, but it will have a strange slant from side to side.

Which is weird xD cause my keyboard's enter is abnormal....

Got the red modifier set (last week) and some clear alpha caps (today) from Signature Plastics.  I already had the F-keys from Group Buy 3.  But... sadly I can't seem to hit the right numbers fast enough in my coding if I don't have legends.  (Could practice, but... meh)

I've posted this elsewhere, so some of you will have seen it before - just thought I'd share here.

So I recently bought a mechanical keyboard, and I'm really enjoying my Pure with Blues - nothing to compare it to mechanical wise, but it's as much a joy to type on as my new fountain pen is to write with. That is, it's good, but it needs some tweaking.

So the standard Pure keycaps are quite light......

what's this? Fire?

...hmmm, what could this possibly turn into...

Top piece bent to shape on a mandrel and soldered into place, it's starting to look like a key cap...

...then I got too busy taking pictures, not paying enough attention to my work. May have slightly over heated the stem - no harm done, just a lovely bright orange for you all to enjoy!

150 grit...

...180, 240, 500, 1200, 2000, tripoli, Dialux rouge, Dialux bleu. And we have one shiny key cap.

He's not heavy, he's my key cap.

So it's very nearly finished, there's a slight twist (about 3 degrees) on the stem. It's not worth re-soldering, so I'll just tweak it with pliers when I'm back at the bench.

As a final note - it's been pointed out that the caps the come on the Pure are "OEM" and not cherry profile... so as and when I upgrade the rest of my caps, this one will be scrapped.

Step 1. Acquire awesomly artistic gf.

Step 2. Bake.

Step 3. Drool.

What type of paint are you using?

isn't it just nailpolish?

Im not sure. From the information obtained from my sister nail polish cracks and comes off after a while. Is that why they put the keys in the oven? If so what temp and how much time?

They won't tell you and they shouldn't, stop asking for manufacturing details.

Did you really solder the stem? Where did the stem come from?

The stem?  I made it...

1.3mm thick sheet silver, cut to the diameter of the stem on my existing Esc key.

1.3mm thick sheet silver cut to the profile of the void in the stem (i.e. the same shape as the part of a switch that goes into the stem [i.e. a cross {+}]) and soldered onto the circle.

1mm square silver wire cut to approx 6mm (can't remember exactly how long) and soldered onto the circle against the cross in the voids created by the cross.

Realise it's too short compared to my existing Esc key and solder onto an off-cut of 1.3mm sheet silver (as pictured glowing orange) cut to the profile of the circle, and filed true.

One completed adjustable sterling silver stem.

Any plans to make an entire set?

With a retail value of something like £25-30 per cap (not having worked it out, that's just a guess) I think not... Pure's basically 15x5 (?) so that'd be... £1875-2250ish!  It'd obviously be less a bit, as a double key won't weigh as much as two singles (approx 10/8 - stem) etcetera.  However it'd still be a pretty expensive enterprise.  Even a full querty set would be quite a bit of change... £650-780 anyone?

Don't get me wrong.  If you want it, I'll make it.  It's an awful lot to drop on a keyboard, but not so much on an engagement ring etcetera.

These guestimates are in no way a quote, and even if they were - it would be valid for no more than 14 days (inc. weekends)

Fair enough.  Just thinking of the girldc caps that are several hundred dollars each - a keyboard of those would be many times the cost you indicated.

You never know, there might be a Geekhacker out there somewhere willing to pay.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. It was more or less a spur-of-the-moment thing knocked together before and after work.  If there's real interest then I can set up properly and give up one day a week to the design and manufacture of caps.  I don't do plating - it doesn't last.  I don't do enamelling I simply have no desire to.  I don't do hand engraving - give me a few years to practice.  And I don't do platinum - not without dropping some serious cash on tools.

A big part of the iron man / etcetera cost is the exclusivity.  I have no intention of copying girldc's work - or the original design - not at any cost.  But if you want a blank 24carat gold keycap that'll be on the order of £600-750...  From what I've seen of girldc's work (not much) they're basically somewhat like me - a jeweller.  We'll make just about anything, for a price!  ;)

Again, prices posted are not quotes, and due to the daily variation of metal prices the final cost of any gold work will be based on the price of bullion on the date of purchase.
