Unusual keycap deformation - cause?

Hi, trying to understand what caused this damage on a keyboard keycap.

It looks warped/rippled in one area on the side/top edge of the spacebar (the part facing the other keys), and there's a similar pattern on other keycap pieces.

This area isn't directly touched during normal use.

Does this look like normal wear, material stress, or some kind of external damage?

The keyboard was recently cleaned and otherwise used normally.

Does the texture feel rough or is it actually warped? It's a little hard to tell from the photo. I'm wondering if it could be heat damage rather than normal wear.
