I would buy another 87UB/55-gram keyboard, perhaps even a 87UW.
Either way, I'd definitely get a second one with 55-gram Topre switches.

I bought a CM QFR and then sold it to a local GHer. Then a few months later I decided I wanted to use MX Blues again for a while even though I don't like them. So I went down to the Frys electronics I used to work at and got one really cheap with an employee discount.
If you live in AZ you can try my keyboards. I usually keep plenty of different ALPS and MX and buckling springs.

Hello, just curious how many of you have duplicates of the same keyboard? Or keyboards very similar that they are essentially the same. Or even different keyboards but same switches.

I know model M collectors would love having multiples to play with, but what about Filcos and what not?

I've owned a Filco Linear R TKL from a few years ago, loved it so much that I just got a Filco Ninja TKL with Red switches, essentially the same thing! I love my MX reds.

Just curious if any of you guys are weird like me and have duplicates of something, and let me know why!  :)

Overtime I've bought 2 (technically 3, one had to be sent back as it was broke on arrival) Noppoo choc minis and I've also purchased 2 KC84's.

Never...

This guy.  :))

But really, I've bought at least half as many HHKBs as he has and that's still ~5

I'll buy duplicates of anything cool if I can find it in person for a good deal, bought quite a few dupes of IBM stuff this way.

This may sound strange, but with compact (<=60%) boards, you can buy two identical models and place them in a V shape on your desk to have uber ergo setup, as custom as it gets.

It will make you look like a nutcase, however.

I have bought too many full-sized Cherry MY keyboards ... just for scavenging the keycaps.

I have also bought two BTC-5140 slider-over-rubber-dome keyboards, also for the keycaps. The alphanumeric keys have Swedish legends and are MX-compatible. Unfortunately, thin, lasered ABS, and stabilised keys do not have MX-compatible stabs.

I have had five different QFRs come into my house, four with MX blue, one with MX brown. The brown was swapped to clears for a friend, as was one of the blues for myself. The three still with stock blues are mine, my sister's, and my dad's.

A few reasons. You may want a normal board most of the time but a split for those longer typing sessions. Being able to go back and forth in a heartbeat.

There is no learning curve either as both hands can access all keys. It can be a good way to experiment with a split design without committing, as you'd still have two normal boards at any time. You could also do it with Topre (if one is so inclined), such as two HHkB next to one another, or other preferred switches.

You can also sell one at any point when you realize GH has made you broke.

I forgot to list my reasons for having duplicate boards:

1. I have three workstations (one at home; two at work), and I need one keyboard for each of the three workstations.

2. I like to try out different keycaps, and having duplicate boards facilitates direct comparisons.

3. I like to experiment with different layouts, and having duplicate boards facilitates comparisons.

I own a pair of Ducky Premier DK9008P same model but difference switches. Also CM QF Ultimate and Trigger both are very similar. And I also buy a lot of other mechanical keyboards that are Blue sw. my most favorite switch before I got my Topre.

My reason is just to find out which one is best for me, but end up can't decide about that. There are no better or worst it's just difference. But after I got my first Topre switches keyboard few days ago (The Novatouch) now I know which one is right for me, the Novatouch has a really unique feeling and I really love to type on it, really impressive so far.

Yup, I have two PokerX's, and have a QFR and a QFR-XT both painted the case in the exact same color blue, both have the same keycaps, and switches.

I like to keep things the same.

Thanks for the swell idea! I added a couple of Lava Lites and a repeating playlist of Indonesian gamelan music, and in just three days I was out of the cubicle farm and into my own office.

It will make you look like a nutcase, however.

Never BOUGHT the same one again, but I do have/had several duplicates. I bought one NIB AT101W, but I got another two for free later (along with a AT101), I bought a NIB Model M but got an older one this Thursday, I have two G80-3000s, one with black and one with blue switches, both for free, and I got three Acer 6312-TWs for free.

I'd never BUY a duplicate though. Most of my duplicates I disassembled for parts, in fact.

So many Decks.  I've had other mechanical keyboards (QFR, Ducky) but they have not impressed me in terms of build quality.  I collect Decks that aren't made anymore.  I have issues.  Dear Geekhack, I'm back, and I have Deck issues.

I bought one IBM Model M from a Pawn Shop. Which was broken unbeknownst to me. Then I bought another Model M from EBay, which was also broken. Then I ordered one straight from Unicomp and that one was not broken. So I basically only intended on buying one of them, but I ended up with two broken and one working.

I had a full Filco with reds, loved Filco so much bought a Filco with blues.  I hated the blues, so I sold it to a friend, bought another full Filco with reds.  Realized I wanted TKL, bought a leopold with reds.  Leopold broke my brand loyality to Filco and now I am looking to buy Varmilo (rebranded Leopold?) with MX Clears so I can get some panda or ergo clears.

Simple. Buy more TG3's  :))

(Left are TG3 caps, right are Déck caps)

I tried a few different keyboards to get a feel for the layouts. Except for the Keycool 87 that I got with Browns first then sold it and then got a white one with Clears.
Then had a few boards modded to Clears... and ended up with 4-5 boards with Clears.

I'm still trying to get my first SSK :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Bought two filcos to serve just as exhibits. Because they are my favourite MX board. Well, they were, then I started liking cherry stabs more. Before i couldnt decide between FILCO TKL and Leopold FC700R. Now I'm only buying FC700R/750Rs.
Had a lot of keyboards though, blackwidow, quickfire rapid-i, poker 2, none of them comes close to those 2 imo.

I know model M collectors would love having multiples to play with, but what about Filcos and what not?

This... I don't even know how many Model Ms I have by now (my sig is outdated!): I've got one real industrial M, four or five (don't even remember) industrial shells (top+bottom, full-size sadly), one Ambra Model M, one black M13 and many beige Model Ms. At one point in a group buy I did take several beige Ms just so that the group buy could happen. Most of these are in a garage and I lost count: it doesn't make much sense to have all these Ms and I should really sell most of them.

My daily is an HHKB Pro JP since two years or so and I plan to buy a second one but for a specific reason: they're kinda hard to get at a good price and in case mine wouldn't work anymore or something I just couldn't stand having to wait several days for a new one to arrive. I know they're indestructible but what if I spill a can of coke on it or warm coffee or if I let it drop or if someone steals it, etc. :)

I've got a few Model Ms. Can't ever have too many :-)

I've owned a few different variations of the Poker. Never more than one at the same time though

I love KBs as much as anyone, but does the term "fetish" ever come up around here? I don't recall seeing it—but when I read about people buying the same KBs over and over, I can't help wondering...   :D

Out of curiosity, is there much reason, if any, for someone to grab the JP version over the Pro 2 if they do not speak Japanese? I was looking at it, and was wondering if the extra buttons were programmable so I could find a use for them. Ended up getting the Pro 2.

Just curious if any of you guys are weird like me and have duplicates of something, and let me know why!  :)

Yep! Those Model M keyboards. There must be something about them, aye?  Kinda hard to talk about other keyboards when you won't consider anything else.
