Tex Shura (60% Tex Shinobi)
« on: Sat, 31 December 2022, 15:44:50 »
I just visited their site on a whim and noticed that they have a new keyboard available for pre-order - the Tex Shura.

https://tex.com.tw/products/shura

From what I can tell it looks like a 60% Tex Shinobi or a Yoda II that uses what seems to be the Tex design language (very reminiscent of the Shinobi and Kodachi).

Available with a bunch of different kinds of switches, as a DIY kit, two case colors, two nav cluster configurations, bluetooth, and even with an aluminum case!

I'm not affiliated with Tex in any way, just a daily user and big fan of their boards.  Spreading the word.

I’ve wanted a Shinobi for years now and this also looks good - I’m just not ready to give up my arrow keys.

That said, two things are keeping me back:
1) lack of PBT or even double-shot ABS keycaps
2) I think MX switches just aren’t for me.  That’s after Logitech rubber dome, Apple (and Logitech) scissor, MBS, CBS, light and heavy tactiles, jacket and bar clickies, Alps SKCM, Matias Quiet, and most recently Topre.

Both keyboards have a T cluster for navigation and I think also support the thinkpad style back and forward buttons (which I personally love) - not sure if you meant something else by arrow keys (like the numpad cluster).

The keys not being 2-shot is kinda a bummer especially because some of the keys are not a standard size and some have special cut outs for the trackpoint so its not easy to just use a random GMK set for example.  Luckily the printing on them is pretty resilient even after the key shines.

Good luck on your switch journey!  I am lucky that my preference (heavy tactile) are plentiful.  Although its a little lighter my current favorite is Mint Chocolate Chip POM Switches.

I just wish somebody would make a good 65%-ish board with an integrated trackpad. Have never found anything better than my TG3 "cop keyboard" for a casual HTPC keyboard ... so now I'll probably soon be modding a multitouch trackpad into it.

Looks like they keycaps will be updated from the Shinobi to be doubleshot ABS, I don't remember the site mentioning doubleshot ABS when I ordered but it does say that on my receipt and I see this on twitter: https://twitter.com/TEXkeyboard/status/1615252827152220160 and they hint that the alpha keys will be compatible with the Shinobi (probably all keys that are the standard sizes).
