Beard/Mustache Trimmer Help
« on: Sun, 09 June 2013, 17:30:52 »
I need your guys' help with picking out a beard/mustache trimmer for my dad (father's day present).  I don't want to get him a cheap-o POS and I know a few of you guys rock manly-man beards so you should have some experience with trimmers.  Does anyone have any opinions?  Brands to stay away from? Brands to check out?

I'm sure if you go to a salon supplier they can recommend you some great options. I have an Oster Obaby that I use on my beard, it came with 6 head sizes and works great for my needs but it was one of the cheaper models they had (around $40.) I remember going into a salon supplier once just for a pair of scissors and being floored that some scissors sell for $1000+, just regular old hair cutting scissors. Crazy.

An adjustable Wahl with oil and a cleaning brush.  Not rechargeable; cord or batteries are better.  Metal is always better than plastic.  Heavier is better.  A mustache comb and a beard brush would complete the kit, and are often included.

Oster and Sunbeam, not so much.

Also, just because the world is weird now, make sure you get a BEARD trimmer, not a BODY HAIR trimmer.

I have one of the old metal Wahl clippers and it is awesome.  I was checking out the color coded one at Fry's and it looks like it uses the same clipper head.  Nice option for the price, I just didn't care for the cheap case it came with.  For the price though, you could get a nice little bag, a brush, and some small scissors for a complete kit.  Oh, and some extra clipper oil.
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

nice beard, smallfry! it seems i have more hair on my index finger than you on your chin!
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Nope, real men use a string trimmer.

I'm not sure about trimmers, but I have an Oster Fast Feed clipper. That thing is solid.
