[IC] cypher f-row less compact 1800 kit
« on: Wed, 29 May 2019, 14:29:20 »
Click here for the Group Buy Thread

Follow up IC:

Hello fellow mechanical keyboard enthusiasts,

This is a follow up to the original IC for cypher with a few more refined details as well as another form to help us gauge a few things (like colours and plate materials). This time I am also collecting emails to send a notification for the start of the group buy.

The price will be $335(€295) ex vat + shipping (VAT charged by default for EU buyers, ROW will be your local taxes) (shipping inside Europe should be €10-20 and worldwide will be €30-50)

Key Specifications:
  • Sub 17mm height without bumpons (16.25mm). Bumpons add 1.3mm height still keeping the whole board under 18mm :-)
  • Top Mount (a few balanced points to create a nice even typing feel)6° typing angle
  • Supports ANSI/ISO, a few bottom rows for keycap compatibility and split or 2u backspace KLE of layouts
  • Poly-carbonate or aluminium plate (potential to change based on poll)
  • 3 Colours: to be chosen from a poll in the IC form
  • Type C

Something requested a lot in the first IC was split space support and there will be a separate plate option to support this available.

Plates will also be available for ANSI/ISO layouts that support all bottom rows and stepped/unstepped caps. It will also support all 1u numpad or 2u plus and enter. The ANSI plate will also support split backspace.

The other changes requested included re-adding the logo from the original run to the base so this has returned.

Group buy is planned to launch on Monday 8th July and will run for 4 weeks or until we hit the upper limit of 100 boards.

For the second IC form please see here: Link to form

We will be available to answer questions in the mykeyboard.eu discord server and will reply to anything posted here or in the reddit thread

First IC:
Hello fellow mechanical keyboard enthusiasts,

First off welcome to the first official IC for the cypher, an F-row less compact 1800 like layout custom keyboard kit.

After an overwhelmingly positive response when the pictures of the first round started coming out I decided to start looking into running a larger, full scale GB. This time I’d like to avoid many of the pitfalls and issues with the first revision. To that end I have teamed up with the fine folks of mykeyboard.eu who will be hosting this group buy for me, handling all the shipping and transaction side of it.

Click here for an album of images of the first revision.

  • Poly-carbonate or aluminium plate
  • 3 Colours: Black, Grey & Dust Pink (close to the original colours without silver)
  • Type C

Price estimates:
Between $325-350 for the whole kit world wide ex VAT.
PLEASE NOTE: this is subject to change and is based on initial quotes from a few factories

MOQ:

50, limit 100

Please fill in the IC form which we will use to help us nail down some specific options.

We will be available to answer questions in the mykeyboard.eu discord server and will reply to anything posted here or in the reddit thread

Depending on the reaction to this IC and assume no major changes need to happen to the designs and re-prototype we expect to run this later in the summer (July-August)

Thank you

Max (& MyKeyboard.eu)

325-350 dollars worldwide means shipped or is it the universal price excluding shipping and fees? I don’t quite catch you there

Yes Please.

Would love to see a Blue/Silver or Red/Silver combo.

Any details on the PCB? or will it be identical to R1? (I'll have to go chase that one down)

Also we should just call these builds FKL 85% or 75%

Thanks for all the kind words so far!

325-350 dollars worldwide means shipped or is it the universal price excluding shipping and fees? I don’t quite catch you there

This is the estimated price excluding shipping and VAT (as an EU business EU customers will pay VAT on top, non EU customers will get it for this price and pay their local tax on import) including all paypal fees etc however

Yes Please.

That's actually a good name I like it (FKL 85%)
The PCB is pretty much identical, I completely re-routed it but otherwise the layout support is the same. Looks like I will be dropping the 6u spacebar row however as not much interest there and may be adding split space once I collate the data.
It runs on QMK, supports in-switch LEDs and has 3 indicators to match the cutouts in the top case.
It has also been changed to Type-C and based on the IC will be remaining as Type-C.

I was wary of the price, but if this has split space it's endgame for me. I didn't put that in my IC form but I would absolutely be in if it had split space.

I haven't been able to locate a lot of info about the R1 pcb.  Is it hot swapable?

I am very happy to see USB-C as its really the best in my opinion.

I love the FKL designs, have an AL1 and a Sentraq TK78(which I am working on converting to QMK but just haven't had the time to sit down and focus on it).

My dream would be hot swapable, RGB, USB-C as an FKL.

Lots of people have requested split space (more than I expected) so I'm going to look into adding it and what that means.

It's not hot swappable or with RGB. I'm personally OK without those features and would prefer to add more support. The PCB is OSHW however so you are free to modify it yourself or request a commision for it :-) Github link

For those interested and/or curious and are attending Keycon, I have brought my R1 Cypher.

It is next to close-ish to the bar, next to the Keymaker artisan.

There is no space for that, not even room for a 1mm sound dampening.

no internal weight. The board is designed to be as small and light as possible whilst still looking nice and being functional.
