Right now it's still in Interest Check. Once everything has been tweaked and finalized, it will go into the Group Buy phase where you can join in.

Typically once that happens, this thread will be updated and a new thread will be created in the Group Buys and Preorders forum with the details.

Just keep an eye on this thread and gok's Instagram (https://instagram.com/gok101/) for updates.

So how long does this stuff generally take from interest checks to group buys to having it in your hand? I'm feeling impatient and might need to pick up something while I wait for this. (I feel like this is how it all starts haha)

Not to scare you, but the wait from gb to delivery can be as little as 4-6 months and as much as 2-3 years depending on scale of gb, manufacturing issues, QC, etc. I've been in the Model F Keyboard gb since June of 2016 and still haven't received my board hahah. Don't get me wrong though, the Model F keyboard is a special case. Most keyboard gbs I've been a part of haven't been more than a year.

I kinda like the look of that 6u layout. If only more of my keysets came with 6u spacebars. Definitely voting for grey rather than silver!

Could you throw up a render of the black one with GMK Taro? Asking for a friend. Also, A Special Edition Black 7V with either Rose Gold/Gold/Chrome Finish/Polished Brass would be insane. Badging included of course. Just throwin it out there. Can't wait for this.

I don't have a microphone so any recordings would be so far from reality that it wouldn't really tell you much.
Maybe somebody with a decent microphone will be able to record something at the next Auckland meetup which is happening at the end of next month.

Expect at least 6 to 12 mos after GB closes. Checkout some old threads to get a general pattern. There are some outliers though, Canadian company here turning around GBs in a matter of weeks.

Looking forward to color options (a render/prototype of gray would be awesome if that's happening)

Hey, gok. Thanks for putting up the model showing the mounting method. So if I'm looking at this correctly, the thing that's usually the mounting plate won't actually be attached to the chassis in any way. It will be held by the switches, which will be soldered to the PCB (with a foam layer in between) and the PCB will be isolation mounted with protruding "tabs" connected by leaf springs? Is this correct?

If so, are there any worries about the durability of this kind of setup? The whole weight of the assembly and the force from the key press will be distributed to the chassis through thin leafsprings made out of fiberglass (or any other PCB substrate).

I've never seen this kind of mount anywhere else. What sort of feel is it supposed to provide? How much give do the leaf springs have? Are they going to be hard-limited when pressed down by some sort of bottom element? What sort of switches would best benefit from this kind of setup?

Sorry for bombarding you with questions, but this is very intriguing.

You are correct that the plate isn't mounted directly to the chassis.
The PCB isn't isolation mounted, there are poron pads on the top side of the mounting leaves to take up any tolerances when clamping down.

I'm not worried about the durability because you don't exert that much force when typing normally. There is a bottom out limit on the leaves of about 1.4mm to help prevent it from being pushed down too far and causing damage.

In terms of feel, it's meant to be consistent but have a little bit of give.  Regarding switches, I'd imagine anything but clicky would be good, though I'll be building a clicky setup this coming weekend.

Really like the visual design of the board and plan to keep watching, but the much more complicated mounting system has me very skeptical currently.

Using a plate will increase stiffness significantly. This is similar to how flimsy a cardboard box is when open compared to how stiff the same box is when closed and taped.

With this mounting method for 7V, you can plateless for a very soft feel (PCB is soft, mount is soft) or with a plate for a more solid but cushioned feel (PCB+plate is rigid, mount is soft). The softness of the mounting method and PCB+plate is hence independent of one another.

Anodized Black looks amazing so does the white, even the blue isnt bad! Love the design and branding....im usually not one for branding but love this logo.

Any chance hotswap with LEDs/RGB possible? I would spend a pretty penny. Look forward to the final renders.

On the blue one, yes. The PCB was bowing in the middle which was lifting the right side and is part of the reason why I've added mounts with a stronger clamping force for the revised design. Shifting mounts closer to the edge also helps.

OK, I think I get it now. Very intriguing indeed. Thanks for the explanation. This actually sounds very cool and I hope you're planning on putting up an exploded view or maybe even an animation of the mounting method when the GB starts, because it's very unique and might catch a lot of people off guard. Maybe some cross-sections would help explaining it, too. Just a thought. Can't wait to get this, still.

1 vendor, Unlimited GB

is it safe to assume at this point that he is working with Rama foundry for this one?

#1 Using same leaf spring technology as Thermal
#2 Unlimited GB
#3 Mute kit-ish as u80 and m65b?

But I don't remember Rama using SS in their previous GBs, that can be the first time the manu offer this kind of service

Otherwise,
the only unlimited vendor that came to my mind could be Kbdfans, but I doubt it

#1 I heard they are moving to in-stock cases rather than unlimited Gbs
#2 SS is not a cheap product to manufacture
#3 This looks more like a high-end board rather than a solid low to mid-tier as they usually do

Or third option is an already established vendor who is someone that looked at the increasing number of purchases and wants to offer a new service with unlimited Gbs to go along that way

Or third option is an already established vendor who is someone that looked at the increasing number of purchases and wants to offer a new service with unlimited Gbs to go along that way
I can tell you now that it's not Rama works.
There may be other vendors as well but there has only been talks of having a Chinese proxy so far.

How do I get in on this group buy? I'm a total noob... not sure how this all works.
Right now it's still in Interest Check. Once everything has been tweaked and finalized, it will go into the Group Buy phase where you can join in.

Typically once that happens, this thread will be updated and a new thread will be created in the Group Buys and Preorders forum with the details.

Just keep an eye on this thread and gok's Instagram (https://instagram.com/gok101/) for updates.

will we be notified when this thread is updated?
