gojira54 was very kind and sent me the WY50 PCB to play with :thumb:

I think the WY50 keyboard should work with my Controller firmware already :D

Well let's see...

Plugged it into a Teensy with some female-to-female jumper wires:

47202-0

Using these pins on the PCB connector (as detailed above, and skipping the shield ground on pin 1):

47204-1

Hacked up a config for my Controller firmware:

* WYSE_WY50.sc (3.39 kB - downloaded 208 times.)

And it 'just worked' when I loaded it up and started shorting keys out :D Since the PCB had no switches in it, the sense_delay and debounce settings might need a minor tweak, but basically it was working OK.

I don't have the case, but if it's the same sort of size as the WY60 keyboard then there isn't a lot of room inside, probably not enough for a Teensy with pins and jumper wires. If I was properly modding one, I think I'd remove the PCB connector and solder wires directly, with the Teensy sitting on top of the PCB roughly where the connector was.

Is there anyone who could give me pointers on how to actually do this?  I have a Wyse 50 keyboard, a Teensy 2.0 and the will to solder.

Much thanks.

I usually just extract switches and make new keyboard from wyse.
Black switches from wyse board are really good as far as from my experience.

So I was able to get things soldered together correctly, and I downloaded Soarers tools.

Is there a tutorial on how to work those somewhere?

So I think I got it.

In the tools folder, drop the WYSE_WY50.sc file on scaswr.bat. It then does some magic and creates a WYSE_WY50.sc.scb file.

Tested the keyboard after that and it now works.

Pics to follow.

72066-0
72068-1
72070-2

That last image is potato quality, but it shows the Teensy in the tin surrounded by foam strips to keep it in place and keep it from shorting.  I have the the wires wrapped with a polyethylene spiral wrap.  (great stuff for armoring cables)

When I am sure everything is working the way I want it to, I will get a small box and and make a more in-line looking rig.
