So look what I just snagged...

It looks like there are definitely switches, as the PCB and soldering attests...

And looking up the model number:

Nice, the switch solder layout looks similar to nmb, but might be something else I suppose.  Be curious to see what type of switch it actually has.  Nice price.

It looks like it'd be a fairly easy operation to remove the trackball and you'd have a metal key compact mechanical keyboard.  Nice.  I searched on ebay but couldn't find another model with the exactly number.

Trackball's gotta be the best part though...

Oh well, to each his own.

I was getting it for the metal keys...but it's a great package, I'm sure.

Are you going to use it as a whole or just strip the keycaps?  If you plan on using as a whole, are you going to try to find a creative way to mount it to your desk or build a custom case (or something else)?

I was thinking of using as a whole, maybe building a custom case. I'm thinking that the keys probably aren't that easy to remove.

They'll probably be black cherries under those keys.   Given the previous discussion about inertia and metal keys that may be a good match.

The product page states that the switches are tactile.

I think it is an Oracle type of sales trick.

What sales trick is that (not trying to sound like a ****, I'm genuinely interested)?

Nice catch! I believe these are very expensive when you buy 'em new. It's probably not very nice to type on actually (if it's anything like the one I tried once - usability is sacrificed for durability), but for sure you will be able to poke out Ripster's eye with your ball of steel.

I think I might get one of those super-strength trackball keyboards and perform science experiments on it. Will it blend?

Anyway, I think it is common knowledge that Oracle"s strategy to success was to create the Religion of the Aggressive Salespeople? Create business by commission. I've seen quite a few Oracle installments where ite was complete overkill and they did not need this kind of database capacity at all, nor the expensive service contracts and specialists to get and keep it working. Oracle is a bit like the financial sector selling mortgages.

That's what I figured.

OT: I was reading the new posts in this thread this morning, and I came across webwit's "art" post.  The problem is, I have jury duty today, and there are people sitting all around me probably getting it in.

Does this mean the woodworker is left handed?

Woodworker? The stools start out flat and they have to wear them in like that. They get a few splinters at first, but the Scots are a hardy race.

I didn't get selected, but it was pretty fun, though.  WiFi, a great cafeteria, comfy seats, all-in-all, it was pretty nice.  I was chosen for vetting first, didn't get selected (actually, they didn't even get around to questioning me), and was out playing disc golf by 1:30.

no, cause once you set them all, it is customized as YOUR keyboard, so as long as he doesnt need to sell it, there should be no reason to change them around.

Well, I got the keyboard today. It uses Cherry MX black linear switches. The keys seem to be stainless steel etched keys, (Probably not laser-etched, though), with what I guess to be a lacquer inlay for the legends. Keys that would normally use stabilizers instead use two switches.

Despite being a linear switch keyboard, it's not too bad to type on, due to the long-stemmed keys and somewhat sticky keys. I'm looking forward to trying to play a game on it now.
