1.Story

More
First of all, let me introduce myself. I was the former designer of MAB.
During the quarantine times, I did thought a lot and felt so regret of everything that happened. However, I am very lucky to have some friends in community who are kind and supportive to me so that I would like to follow my passion once more time. When they knew I have had a desire to make a product on my own, they encouraged and made me feel so motivative to do what I could not done before.
In the last time, I was just a designer of the team and had no relevance to finance as well as permission to decide the production.
This time, I want to show you my own product. It is totally my own design and my own finance. Its name is ORI. What does ORI mean? It is a characters in a video games that has to fight for survival and go on an adventure finding shine. I was inspired by ORI, just like my story, I want to enjoy this hobby whenever I am possible. I don’t fear lose, I fear regret.

This project maybe will not become GB because the production of it depends on the manufactory’s quality where I put my faith on. If the protype is bad, I will cancel this project. I only come back until I find another better manufactory
Lastly, how my project go on is based on your supportiveness.
Best regards,

Finally, the day I completely decided that my design had arrived.

My design language always wanted to give something a "second chance to look". If one day you are typing on my design, and seeing a different, more novel design. I want you to look down at the keyboard I designed and tell myself: "ya, still good".It will not be the most unique thing you have, but it will be the one you will most want to use.
That is a "second chance to look".

6.Road map

IF the prototype is GOOD. I will try to open GB after the next production schedule when I can sign a contract.

IF the prototype is BAD. I will cancel everything, and look for another production unit.

For the first GB I own, I will be limited to 10 sets. Not because I want to prove to be superior. It is my financial limit that cannot meet reimbursement if necessary. If there is an error, I cannot support you if the number exceeds 10.

I would like to thank the friends who helped me find the manufacturer / support me on the pcb / support me about the gasket mout.

And thank you all for reading. Many thanks

More update for ORI 87:

Currently, I am still waiting for the 3rd prototype to be completed so I can test it again, recording video for sound tests.

Therefore, GB will not have a calendar if my product is not complete, if necessary will have a fourth prototype.

But, I will still predict the day for you to follow along:
 - 12/6 : pick up prototype v3
 - 13/6 : assemble
 - 16/6 : Video sound test
 - 18/6 : GB

Expected price : 550$ ( kit + TX bag )

The raffle will include:
 • 15 slots for Worldwide [ Western union // Paypal ]
 • 5 slots for local market ( VN) [ Western union // Cash ]
 Vickrey Auctions :
• 2 slot after GB ( not sure )

Thank you for reading.  :thumb:

UPDATE :

Today I have the official confirmation that June 18 is the turn to anode T_T.  So it took me at least 25/6 prototype v3 to get to my hands.  Sorry for the delay.

So our GB will probably take place in early July.

----------
If everyone wants to follow ORI87 as early as possible, join the disc discord now.

And do not forget to contribute comments to the IC form so I know what you guys are thinking about my design, do not hesitate.

I will begin to respond to emails from tomorrow, and emails in the IC will be notified of the raffle time as well as the first official information.

--------------------

The PCB landed yesterday, and here it is

* PCB works well
* USB-C daughter fit is extremely good.
* Perfecting the quality of high-end PCB

This is the PCB test + Prototype V2 (there are still some machining errors // the anode quality is not up to the standard I want)

Since I only have one pack switch, I will wait for the Prototype V3 to assemble and perform the video sound test.

My Japanese is not that good, even though I'm a native but.

That Japanese looks off.

Akari vs Hikari (depends for what you're going for)

But the last part "見 つ け て" is making me to believe it's an incomplete sentence.

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.

This looks pretty great, very unique blockers/layout! The leaf spring on the plate seems pretty huge, so keep that in mind if you want to offer more flexible plate materials. Looking forward to seeing the proto for this!

Looks interesting.

How will top mount be achieved? From the renders you currently have it appears you have some interferences between the screw heads holding the plate and the bottom case bosses. Additionally there are some very thin features that look like they will easily bend even during machining, in addition to handling and assembly.

This looks great.

As for the Japanese, I would like to add that it is slightly off grammatically but nothing major

その明かりをもう一度見つけて is more accurate replacing は with を

明かり is perfectly fine in my opinion. 光り means light where 明かり means "glow" or "illumination" which has a nice soft sound.

Thank you for your comments,
it is Akari, it is true that the sentence is not complete, but it does provoke something to continue.

This looks great.

I asked my Japanese teacher, and it looks like you're right.
I will change this sentence when engraving in the official version, many thanks

I fix it in prototype before, the render image just about outside look. You can see in the image below
But, thank you so much for noticing that. That is why we have IC thread

Exactly, this was the first time I tried gasket design so I was afraid the plate would be too flex. So I left it that way, for sure, if the plate is too hard, I would give it more flex.

Really looking forward to seeing the prototype for this, completely agree with an earlier comment.
The fins at the back of the top where the gaskets join are way to thin to not cause problems but otherwise looks neet and clean.
Can't wait to see more.

After discussing my technical advisors, the only feasible way to make the logo is using wire edm. The accuracy would be high (after anoding, it may not fit because anode makes the surface about 25 micron thicker)
In order to guarantee the accuracy, I booked 2 more top parts with new logo for the prototype.
Rip my wallet :(

CNC the red sun. Make the place where it fits into about 0.10 mm larger and it should still fit after ano and you'll barely notice the gap.

Edges cross between the bird and the sun is very sharp, so we can't using cnc tools for cut that part.

I hear you. Can't you fillet the inside edges like 0.1mm so a drill bit would be able to do that? Not sure how visible the effect would be, but at least it would allow you to cnc it.

Good luck and def interested. Me and my girlfriend finished both Ori games during the quarantine as well, with both of us finishing the 2nd game literally within seconds of each other - and rate it as one of the best game(s) we've played. Made me wonder how AAA games cannot capture the charm and simplicity of these games, yet with much more budget and resources.

Finally the day for the CNC prototype prototype arrived, I went to the workshop to have a look and a few photos.
This is just the shaping phase and tomorrow will be the polished phase of the prototype. Hopefully the next week will be completely anode.

The truth is, I will never forget the first cut sensce when Naru finds and nurtures Ori for the first time.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to make such games, it is very respectable.

New logo looks really good! Two things that caught my mind on the proto;
- bottom row of the plate is cheese, would hope for more fixed plates for the lucky 10 buyers
- the USB port cutout is clean, I do wonder if it’s not too small for all the fancy custom cables we use

As someone who has been in the origami hobby since I was a child, this is incredibly exciting for me and it goes without saying that it would be an instant purchase for me!

Edit: Just read that it'll only be 10 units. Do you know if it will be raffe, fcfs, etc? Legitimately need this in my life

You have to increase to even more units! Must!!
That new weight design dealt the killer blow

I’m still trying to get my first mk board to build and boy am i eyeing this one!

Do you know if any hotswap pcb would fit the Ori87?

I agree with increasing the number of units - I think the demand is there!  You could put out a poll with a price bracket and that might give you a clearer indication of how popular your design is.  This is really amazing!

With the new designs, this board has gone from maybe to absolutely stunning. You definitely won't have issues filling spots!

Haha. Yeah. Whatever number you want to run, feel free to run just that many. The demand is there but I'd rather have you feel comfortable with the count. Plenty of other boards out there for those that miss.

As for hotswap there very few TKL PCBs with it and doing so reduces the possible layouts or requires two sets to be made. You'll never see it for boards that are this limited in run size. And that's ok!

Board keeps looking better and better!

Even if you only raffle off fewer numbers at the start I'm sure there would be a big draw for a round 2.

The only sad thing about this is the limited quantity. With my luck I would never get one :(
But the design is truly outrageous. Love it!
Hope you have a successful Gb and gather some vendors for a subsequent R2.

1. I do not hide the fact that I am the designer of MakeABoard, read carefully the Story section of the IC.
2. Designer differs from people who actually take money and host.
3. You have taken a screenshot of my facebook, so you're a local market person. So why are you using clones? Are you 15 years old?
4. It seems you enjoy screen-taking of other people's personal information, over and over again.

I'm a newcomer to this saga, so I read your Story section as you suggested. All it has is one sentence seeking to absolve yourself of any responsibility from the last board you were involved with, which appears to have taken people's money and not delivered. From your Story section, the relevant words are:

"In the last time, I was just a designer of the team and had no relevance to finance as well as permission to decide the production."

Am I missing something?

Of course, each person should make up their own mind, but there's no way - on the basis of the information I see at the moment - that I'd entrust my own money to someone with a direct link to a project like the Makeboard, with no reliable assurances other than words to the effect of "it wasn't my fault last time, I feel bad". My suggestion is to finance the 10 boards yourself and sell them as in-stock items, then begin to turn around your ostensible reputation that way.

Yeah, i think he need to clarify what actually happened with his former team and incident around the previous GB. Looking at how much effort he put on prototype, i think we should give OP a second chance.

Dear all,
I create this topic to explain all problems. First, wading back to the time of MAB, MAB consists of 3 members: Tuan Anh, Vu and me.
I was invited into the team as a designer. Vu (make pcb) joined the team later only when beginning opening GB R96.
It is the fact that my role is only to design, Vu’s is to make pcb and Tuan Anh is totally in charge of machining.
The cash flow of MAB was set: Paypal (mine) -> currency conversion -> give Tuan Anh to pay for machining factory.
I GAVE ALL THE MONEY RECEIVED TO TUAN ANH with a promise of 10% GB but never ever happened.
And I never ever receive any money of R96, 60S, rose.
Matter arising when finishing anodizing R96, some of pieces was failed and had to remake. During that time, Tuan Anh on his own sold R96 for others (even though who hadn’t follow GB)
It resulted in short of goods and money is only Tuan Anh knew.
Then, opening new GB of 60S to make up for R96 loss.
(Even at this time, I didn’t receive any money as salary or commission)
My paypal now is claim up to -3700$ but contacting Tuan Anh just receive nothing.
After 60S, I left MAB (If still called a team) because I didn’t agree with that working way. And I have worked in another field for a long time and didn’t think about making keyboard anymore.
I want to make clear that I never ever received any money of any GB of MAB and have no idea of cash flow at that time.
If I open GB ORI just due to money or scam or something else, I don’t have to use my true account? I can stand under another’s name, is it much more easier?
About ORI, I have done 2 prototypes and nearly get 1 more to make sure about the quality.
ORI is my design and LOKA is manufacturer. In addition, LOKA and I signed legal contract.
I have talked all what related to me above. I lost money, lost reputation, lost time. For the time beings, even in difficulty I didn’t bring this story to get the community’s tear. But this time, everything goes too far, when some people don’t consider or maybe hate me and try to ruin me.
Now, it does not influence only me but also LOKA that support me very well.
In conclusion, this is my first as well as my last time to make an explanation about MAB and me. Everything is true or not, many people know.

Plus for this tbh.
If he wanted to scam people he could have just created a new account and not mention that he designed the MAB at all. But he did.

And if he really just designed the MAB and was not involved in the rest of the GB process then it's fine I guess.

Also the prototypes look fire. I like :)

This is an excellent point. If he were trying to scam everyone involved, why not use a different identity? An even better question, why try to limit the size of the GB? Wouldn't it be much easier to steal more money by not limiting it to ten spots?

100% agreed. On top of this.. OP seems very defensive to a fault. I feel like the correct move that would have reassured me is to accept some sort of blame and provide a more detailed explanation on how he appealed money transfer/filed police report/etc. or anything. PayPal is pretty solid if you demonstrate or show evidence. Whenever you are a team and something goes horribly wrong, every member is accountable.

All-in-all, very pretty designs but is it worth the risk based on the information we have? I'd say no.  Would like to see a mod step in here and help protect the community for people taking this risk. What they should do... I'm not sure.

It is a difficult situation.  If the designer was trying to scam, this would be a bad attempt at it.  That said there obviously was something very wrong with the last GB that he was involved in.  Everyone can make mistakes and everyone can get things wrong.  I appreciate more than most that the  MODs will feel the pressure to protect their members.  In the end we are going to have to make up our own minds as to how to proceed.  The intricate design alone would not lead me to believe that this was an elaborate con.

Interesting to see drama unfolding. I don't really have an opinion on OP's credibility (both sides seem to have a point) but I do have a problem with the Rising Sun being used for the bottom design. It's distasteful, same way using a modified version of a swastika on a keyboard design would be.

To be honest, firstly, I’m an active member on Vietnam Keyboard Enthusiasts a.k.a VNMK or VKG if you guys haven’t know before but accidentally I do not joy GH so much. Secondly, I don’t have any relationship or connection with this guy so I don’t want to state the obvious that me and this person are nothing. But this time, due to many incorrect assertions and mistrusts here, I have to deeply observe and find out the truth story behind for a undeniable explanation. If you have a doubt having confidence in my sentences, just ignore it because they just words from a local user who can find more and more informations by contacting then keep believing in an un-known foreigner. Putting MAB aside, they already turned out to be a new team with their own CNC’s manufacturing and designers both in PCB and keyboard, I can sure that this is an individual who are effortlessly speaking the truth. In conclusion, hoping people totally trust the story he told is impossible but moneys are in your hands, your decision is an individually decision. In my opinion, I’m totally going to splurge on this design and indulge myself protecting my compatriot.

So I've read the Old 60S thread and this one and from what I can tell all we have on the guy running this GB is that he helped design a board that failed and promoted that board on his social media (as you do). I'm not quite sure how that links him to the ****ery concerning the finances and manufacturing of the old board. The guy transfered funds but that was about it. For a 10 unit GB the design process has been perfectly transparent so far with anodized protos already being presented. I personally don't think the old thread or any of the "evidence" presented really implicates this person as a scammer. I would be interested in hearing about the other points of view here though since most of the criticism so far has come in the form of big red text and a facebook screenshot.

I guess at the end of the day, its your money and your choice on how you spend your money.

Like the design regardless?  Go for it. Anyways its only a 15 count group buy and i believe most discerning buyers should have already seen the drama.

Yeah, aside from a screenshot of his personal social media promoting a project he's been working on (which is completely normal) and an old thread from a project that turned into a cluster (his involvement in which he's come clear about thus far), there's nothing here that one would really be able to use as some kind of proof he's a scam artist.

If the chance comes up, I'm going to roll the dice, take my chances, and hope for the best. I hope others do, as well.

To be fair it isn't identical to the actual rising sun iconography. So what, were never allowed put a sun rise on a Japanese themed board? I think it's a pretty far stretch, unless you can link to an instance where a similar style was used in propoganda or affiliation with the WWII regime?

It's not identical, but there's obvious reference to the iconography—hence my comparison to a 'modified' swastika.
One of the few places you would see that flag flown publicly these days is Japanese right-wing extremist protests—more specifically hate groups like Zaitokukai.

I'll def take a look and see what's there. But I mean it's a sunrise. The swastika really only has one identity outside being a religious symbol rarely used in modern times. I'm not saying it's not wrong, just feel like it's more of a stretch. Sunrises mean a lot of different things for many people, the swastika clearly has one major symbolic representation.

I think if the rays were 360 degrees and widened at the ends, and the sun wasn't portioned, it'd be a lot more condemning. I mean the Japanese national flag is still a big red orb, so paying homage to that doesn't necessarily imply imperialistic Japan to me personally. But I can understand how some see it that way.

This does not explain why it just shipped in Vietnam or why when the moderators tried to contact you to help, and you declined. There is a reason you were banned, even my post got on VMG with people saying I was right. Also why should someone who uses K3KC as a photographer be trusted. From what I have heard from friends, you ****ted on the Vietnamese community and hurt their community. I will try to get more information, but that's what I can think about right now.

I did not mention everything to prove that I am not wrong.  During the R96 / 60S, the owner of MAB sold the product on their own initiative without telling me.  That is why the product is shipped in Vietnam.  It was natural for me to have a non-cooperative attitude towards the community at the time, because I had to keep my team private and protected.
I was very wrong and immature to conceal it, but at the time, I still thought I could revive everything if the GB 60s went smoothly.
But in the end, if I wanted to swear at me about MAB, I agreed.  But don't drag Ori in because it's irrelevant, and even because your current post I can't deal a good price on the Ori keyboard.  Only 10-15 slots you have to understand is very difficult to be able to get sponsors ready to produce for me with high quality.

If you prove I've been involved with the Scam team, then you've succeeded.  And even more successful now that no one in the local market wants to receive my design anymore, congratulations.

Could you at least focus on shipping your last project? All you are doing is shifting the blame on someone else.

Why do you keep claiming that I do all that, I had a topic in VKG (my local community) today, and of course a lot of people know me, understand and understand me. . But why do you have to keep talking until I accept all the sins that I never did.
I didn't answer the MAB buyer because I left MAB and got a new job.
And of course I have no evidence but my words, do I collect evidence and wait two years to release it?

I have to agree, some internal team communications showing your displeasure, anger, or effort to right things would go a long way at this point. Otherwise it's just your proven association with failed and false GBs and lack of transparency VS your word. Clearly there must be emails or chats with the MAB team discussing this. I know you want to "protect" them, but if what your saying is true, they basically screwed you permanently.

I'm slightly confused here about whos job it was to communicate updates to the public. If it is true that the GB runner for this project was only working as a designer on the 60S why would he be involved in any of the stuff that went south? ( Communication, production etc.)  It seems to me that you are holding him responsible for all the things that went wrong eventhough those weren't the areas he was working in. From what I can tell there weren't any problems with the design. And how could he have communicated updates about the manufacturing process if he himself couldn't reach the person in charge?

You are saying the rest of the team messed up and not you, but in fact you all did. Also you had a period when you didn't respond to the MAB buyers for about two years. If you are saying I don't have proof, where is yours?
Just to clarify. When you talk about him being banned, and lack of communication, are you talking about on GH, and was he the main person involved in communication for the GB?

I'm not sure if it's just translating to English but you use a lot of "you" seeming to imply that he was the sole person responsible for all these things your blaming him for. But if the GB wasn't actually communicated by him I'm not sure the blame of lack of communication falls on him personally.

We have a small workshop and work there. That's why, almost as an announcement I follow the leader's instructions.

Let's see.

These kinds of things really don't instill confidence. Even if this is as you're explaining, and maybe you aren't at fault, shouldn't you have come back and explained that in the 60s thread here? Maybe not just leave people hanging after randomly popping into a thread that you abandoned 2 separate times?

Plus, last time you blamed delays on low order numbers and a negative paypal balance. Won't both of those be a problem here considering you're ordering 10-15 units, and have already said something about a negative paypal balance?

In 60s thread he mentions multiple times that he had communication with the factory as well. I thought maybe it was another member of their team or something, but he mentioned in the same comment mentioning factory scheduling his personal email, "maylilyrt@hotmail.com"

Again not claiming one way or another, but kinda sus tbqh

I mean he definitely shouldn't go back and say he'll get there money back if he simply can't get their money back. Apparently the cost is sunk. He can't just materialize cash. He can run this GB and try to pay them back with the profits, but the design and cost he's expecting it won't be nearly enough to actually pay them.

Not saying any of this excuses whatever role he had. But I'd rather take silence then promises of refunds which simply won't appear.

Sure. And then what about the others. And claims of favoritism. And resentment in the community. Etc. I don't know. It's just not as easy to do. If refunds are given, a lump total sum to all is best. And again, if it's not completely his fault, it's an unfair financial burden to lay at one person in a teams feet.

That said maybe his reputation is just done for at this point and it's time for a new hobby. Lol.

Had there been reasonable communication in 2018 from the OP, he'd most likely be in an OK position and we'd likely not be having this conversation. He should have updated users here when he knew things were going south, not coming back 2 years later and passing the buck when he wants to make a new board.

edit: just saw your new post, we seem to agree then haha.

Yeah. Definitely agree there. And he may have "learned" if he's limiting the Ori to a number he could financially cover. But I'm confident a lot of private group buys ran on GH wouldn't survive refunding a total loss. Luckily the worst case is usually just long delays.

Yeah. No. Def a bad way to do things for sure. Just wish I had a better picture of what his actual involvement was. Or how much influence he had. Probably things we'll never get answered. I mean it wouldn't be the first time a team has coerced it's members into thinking the best course of action is complete radio silence. Def not the first time it's happened here on GH. Haha.

But yeah. Unfortunate. The design is pretty cool. But I doubt there will ever be a definitive answer. And in the current state it's not like the 15 won't sell anyway.

That to me just screams poor pricing. Clearly they expected to hit a moq they just didn't. And instead of canceling, assumes they could find a new vendor or solution that could do it for the price they wanted. Def a bad move.

Dam what a **** show this has become. I read the other GB thread, is that other OP the same as this OP? It's such a nice design, I'm sad to see it go like this...

Yes, I am sad too because of how such a good design it is. Maybe OP will surprise us and actually ship, its hard to say though.

I like I said, I am the designer for MAB. And I did not decide the finances for the past, all I covered for the MAB team at that time was completely brotherly relationship. But it is clear that my beliefs have been misplaced.
As I said at the beginning of the IC, I met and convinced Loka Space (the manufacturer I was working with) to give me the privilege to produce small quantities. This can be witnessed in the local community, where Loka Space has just assured me.
Because of that, I was able to make 3 prototypes so fast, you can check the number of days I open the IC and change the design.

In the end, I didn't really understand the "K3KC" paragraph. I don't understand if I have anything to do with K3KC, as far as I know, k3kc has been a brand for a long time to clone artisan, but at this time it is not clear whether it will work or not.

Yeah but I feel like OP has been putting way too much effort for this to be a scam. Unless its something I'm missing, but isn't this heading for a third or fourth prototype? Plus its a 10-15 group buy run, I really don't see the potential for much profit if this were a scam, what would be the point? I could be blind to something but spending so much time and effort prototyping and redesigning for a 10 spot scam seems counterproductive...

Let's see.

 • Period of no contact for around 2 years
 • Coming back as a completely new profile and hiding the only explanation in a show more section tucked in between a few things
 • K3KC as a photographer

My actions are not lying, if I want to scam or not serious about this. I didn't spend a lot of prototype making even after finishing the prototype I was waiting for the PCB and waiting for the soundtest video.

Take a look at my prototype. With the way of making wire edm to get this logo, the price for TOP plate is extremely expensive and if there are only 5 boards, my sponsor has no way for me to do that. Because I promise there will be at least 10 boards when I open gb.

Of course it is, obviously being sponsored by a vendor is terrific. But who? Who wants to do with someone who is in position like me?

If a vendor doesn't want to work with you, I think you have a serious problem. Just sell the design to them and have no involvement if you can't find a trustworthy vendor.

I won't answer you again, because the focus of this conversation is one thing. You want me to end, and you want me to take responsibility for what I don't do.
You argue here not because of the keyboard, nor because of everyone. You are here because you believe you are justice, and those you consider to have every sin must pay for your ego.
The ORI design is mine, and will be owned by me from start to finish. Even if it's this hard. I've put all my effort into doing everything I can.
I won't say anything more about drama, and just update here about prototypes.
In the end, when everything was done. Money is in everyone's hands, and it's up to everyone to decide whether or not to buy it.

What issues are there to be discussed? At this point it's up to him to get a vendor to reassure the people who have doubts or do it himself and risk losing those people. He outlined his role in the 60S debacle and u have outlined ur view. Now it is up to the customer to look at the evidence and decide wether they want to take a chance on this board.

I am weary but I currently see a guy who quit a project he was working on and failed to communicate his departure with the people that were relying on him. As bad as that is, the facts presented to not indicate it was his fault the GB actually failed or that he scammed people. It seems to me that he just fled a sinking ship and forgot to inform the passengers.

So you are ghosting and will not help anyone if they have issues. Nice.

You should be ghosted with your attitude and only blowing the hot air wanting the room to explode.

It's not if you are right or wrong or what you say makes or does not make sense it is just your extreme toxic attitude.

Also, you are known in the community to stir **** up so yeah again should have been ghosted from first post.

**** stirring or not, radomly coming back to the forums with a new username after 2 years and posting a new board to buy, kinda sus. Whatever opinion you have on logo, it's still fair to warn potential buyers here.

How about presenting evidence and educating people in a respectful manner. I for one still don't see how he benefited from the 60S failing or how he was responsible for it. Putting out a huge red text when all you have is an old GH thread and some hearsay info is not how you tackle such an issue.

That GH thread should be all you need to be extremely weary here honestly.

So you're ready to accept one persons word with no evidence, but not another's? As far as I'm concerned I have no way of determining if this guy truly had nothing to do with the failings in the last buy. All I know is he was the only contact, and he ghosted people in a buy, then showed up 2 years later with a "sorry, also here's a new board to buy".

I noticed some people mentioned it but isn't kind off a stretch to associate the logo of the keeb with the rising sun logo? They really don't look alike I had to look up the sun logo again because the keeb didn't look like what I remembered the rising sun logo looked like. Plus did anyone bring it up when he first announced the logo change? I feel like now that his past was brought up people are just jumping in all kinds of station wagons.

Honestly since I don't have anything to go by for the 60S situation I mainly look at this IC. He has put alot of energy into delivering promising prototypes and if the soundtest and final design holds up to those standards I will prioritize that over some hearsay.

Ahh no I wasn't pointing fingers at you or anyone, it just annoyed me that people were using this unrest to stir up unnecessary comparisons that have no place and are just wrong in my opinion. OP definitely was part of a shady situation, but we should let potential customers make their decision based on what they see. To honor that sentiment I'll leave it at that, I'm not joining this group buy since there is only one TKL I'm really interested in but I definitely hope all this works out and people who like this design and want to join get one.

Man comparing it to a nazi sign is mighty long bridge. I can understand where you might believe it looks like the Imperial Flag but it's still a stretch. Are we just going to start calling every circle with lines a symbol on the level of the nazi swastika? It's nonsensical because that weight doesn't really look like it.

I just wanted to tell people to not support this guy. I hope he ships to his customers, and we can trust him for future buys. I just don't think he can be trusted, and he is open about disliking his local community. Their community doesn't like him, and I think there is a reason for that. Just curious but I thought the designer simply gives the permission to vendors to do gb(collecting money from buyers and send it to manufacture), like keycaps gb, without permission from Olivia for example, we wouldn't have GMK olivia++, so it is not like selling one's design, right?

I hope OP gets a chance to prove us all wrong, and if he does well then... :D

I'm sure any potential buyers can read through this IC and come to a conclusion on how they feel about this and thus decide.

Yeah, as I understand it, working with a vendor is more about money collection and sorting distribution costs to different regions, not actually selling someone's design or other form of intellectual property. GMK still produces GB GMK sets, no matter if it's Cannon Keys or zFrontier collecting the funds.

Usually yeah, but there is a few exceptions. Some people don't want to worry about it so they just have someone take it over.

I don't think there is a need for people to "attack" (used loosely here) that guy that warned us of this designer's past actions. As much as this is a community and we want good relationships, a GB when it comes down to it is strictly a seller and buyer deal. Maybe the guy has a more negative attitude towards this thing or wants to "stir up ****" but in the end it will be beneficial for the buyers if he really discover something. There is no need to attack this designer as well but there isn't a need to defend him either, he's an adult and can handle himself and when he does deliver the board that will be insane as well to proof the people that doubted him wrong and wash his name clean. Or he doesn't deliver, as obviously the things his done is sus af, he seems so proud of his designs refusing to sell to vendors but it was his design that scammed so many after all. I'm unsure as I don't have the old thread open when I'm typing this but I don't think people's that dumb to join a GB when there's no pictures of prototypes, so the fact that his presenting prototypes shouldn't be a point of reassurance as well. Really the only way to go that would be the safest is to partner with someone else reputable; people will still storm the gb no doubt but they run the risk of falling for a scam orcastrated by someone who was involved with one in the past.

I'm out. If people wanna risk it, I sincerely wish you good luck.

But comparing that bottom weight to genocide and swastika is ridiculous, get a grip.

So you are ghosting and will not help anyone if they have issues. Nice.
you should shut the **** up.
wow nice arguments you got there kiddo. really grown up discussion. not.

lmao.

Dear all,
I create this topic to explain all problems.
As long as he did not receive any money seems to be somewhat innocent.

we don't really know whether he did or not. all we know is that he was involved with a scandal and he never got in front of the issue with an explanation. he's only offering an explanation now after being exposed. you think he would've offered an explanation if no one had brought his past to light in this thread? no way.

It's an extremely sensitive topic in most of Asia, even more so I would say than Europe is with Nazis. (some wounds still left open)
If enough people are seeing the connection, you shouldn't just dismiss it as being ridiculous.

The weight design looks very little like the old Japanese flag to me. How else are you meant to portray a rising sun geometrically? Next people are gonna say all things related to a rising sun are offensive when it should be beautiful. I am not a fan of the old Japanese flag but this just doesn't look like it. The Sun and rays are not red. The rays do not expand closer to the edges. They do not go 360 degrees around the sun. It just sounds like a wild witch hunt to me by some individuals who want to see this project fail and love drama because they have nothing better to do with their time.

As for the other drama, the information is out there and buyers can now make their own decisions.

Wild witch hunt may be part of it, but it was brought up earlier in the thread too by someone else. In the end if Bruce is OK redesigning the weight, I'm sure he'll come up with something else that's awesome, and it's an easy way to just avoid the issue.

Alright folks, I'm going to try to give a full story here, at least from my own perspective.

I am the founder of Team Mechlovin'. You may know us as runners of PCB Group buys, including the Hannah 910, Infinity CE and Adelais (Alice). I hope this adds credibility to my input.

I first came in contact with the OP 3 years ago, when he was still working for MAB (MakeABoard), which of course, is now considered the ultimate scam by the local community. We hardly ever talked because he came out as a reserved (and somehow arrogant) personality, which I didn't have a problem with because all designers I knew were like that. In fact, I was in much more regular contact on a personal basis with that team's PCB designer, who is now my sole partner and technical consultant on Team Mechlovin's projects.

At the time, I was interested in getting a R96, and was told by the then MAB leader (Tuan Anh) that they had an "extra". Of course, I realised months later that it was probably someone's GB unit...I had also purchased some random custom from them a few months  before that, and for both times, every communication related to money went through Tuan Anh, not the OP (Bruce). When things fell out and MAB was exposed by the local community, Bruce was trying to defend his team and having heated arguments with other members, and he said some unsavoury things, which led to personal grudges until these days. From time to time, his name is brought up in online conversations as THE scammer, although his role in making MAB's financial decisions is very much up to debate. From my point of view, many of those personal attacks are merely fueled by the mentioned grudges.

A few months ago, he came to me for advice on this project due to the fact that I have been working with his former teammate on many successful GBs, and that I'm now the admin of a local mech community, separate from the one he fell out of favour a few years back. It's important to note that I had previously had face-to-face sessions with my partner about his involvement in MAB's shady business because I needed to understand who I was to work with, and naturally, Bruce's name came up as well in our conversations. From my partner's side of story, he was simply working for MAB as a PCB designer and never had any say in the financial aspects of the business. I trust my partner, completely. Later on, when I heard Bruce's story, many things checked out, including the part where he's still in debt worth thousands of USD in the form of Paypal chargeback, and he never received support from the one actually in charge of sales and finance, namely Tuan Anh.

So, how much did he know about the scamming activities and was he the one to blame in the total sh*tshow named MAB? I don't know for certain, and though I have information that forms my personal opinion towards this whole thing, it doesn't mean it has to be reflected onto yours. My first and only advice to him when he decided to come back, is that he must COME CLEAN and let the community decide. In his defence, he did mention where he comes from in the original post, but again, I agree that he should have told a clearer story right from the start, and he surely needs to work on his communication skills. One thing I can be certain of, is he's serious and passionate about this project, and excited about the prospect of coming back to the community.

That's all I have to say. In all honestly, if anyone is to give an objective input in this cluster of drama, I believe it's me, because of my knowledge of the people involved, and that I actually have something to lose here, namely my reputation as a GB runner. The rest, of course, is still up to you to decide.

Yeah but my issue with that is apparently no one saw that connection when the weight design change was made. The new design was lauded as a great one but then more than a week later the old GB drama starts and now we have a problem with the design? It just feels like the carriage started catching fire and people just toss more tinder in there. At least that's how it feels from my end. I understand people may not have seen it or whatever but it still smells a bit.

--->Ahh snap not meaning to detract so please read post above mine, very informative.

Thank you everyone for giving me the opportunity to be my favorite.
Now back to the ORI topic

Some people are dissatisfied with the shape of the weight part, saying that it is related to sensitive issues of history. I decided to avoid it aside.
Design is one thing, but I respect everyone's feelings.

Ok, I edited my first reply, but screw it.
It's pertinent.
And design-wise, a penis drawn in the golden ratio would have "purity," but is still a stupid thing to put on a keyboard.
So is anything alluding to Japanese imperialist symbols.

Love, love, love this keyboard design.

Not too keen on the new diamond shaped sun.
While I can't ignore the feelings of those who understandably relate an Origami (Japanese) logo, combined with a red sun with rays emanating from it, to the Japanese naval flag or Japan's war crimes in WWII, I think maybe a semi-circle design could resolve this issue.

The centerline of the keyboard base basically functions as a horizon anyway, so showing a full circular sun seems a bit off designwise.

Another option might be something like this, where the bottom half is a kind of reflection in water:

:thumb:

Every new image and bit of information keeps my hope alive for this project! It's been a joy to follow all this time ^_^

I will study, this is a good idea.

Take a look at my prototype. With the way of making wire edm to get this logo, the price for TOP plate is extremely expensive and if there are only 5 boards, my sponsor has no way for me to do that. Because I promise there will be at least 10 boards when I open gb.
You did not respond to what I said, could you work with a trusted vendor and not have any part with handling money or work with the manufacturer.

Of course it is, obviously being sponsored by a vendor is terrific. But who? Who wants to do with someone who is in position like me?

To my understanding you're looking to sell 22 boards, correct?

I /know/ they don't cost $550 USD but the entirety of the cost comes out to $12,100 USD + whatever shipping costs

22 spots, lets presume 50-70 USD in shipping -- maybe more.

The shipping can be done after we have products in hand.

If you can get me in touch with the manufacture and there's a way for you to legally involve me in both cost and contract, I will provide the entirety of the cost of the manufacturing process up front directly to the manufacture. Not to you. To the manufacture. If the money can be moved through a 3rd party, such a novelkey, prime, TX, whatever, the better.  You said you cannot get any vendors to work with you, then work with me and let me ask around. I don't have any reputation here but if the manufacture can accept debit card (VISA), I can pay it all without an issue and I'm certain a vendor won't mind hosting it if we're reasonable with negotiations.

You can collect funds from people after the product has arrived and passed a quality check. If you can contact Novelkeyz, explain to them the situation, and have them offer to sell it on their website after I've paid the GB in its entirety and it goes up for sale to the public. There's probably a work around here.

Like I said, I can pay it. All of it. Up front.

We can discuss the rest in private.

Edit: To be clear, you can forward me not only my portion of the money once the GB concludes and everyone is equally protected by their PayPal rights because they can pay when the board is ready to be shipped but as well an agreeable % for me covering cost.

If you keep your group-buys small and honest, such as this one, I will gladly fund them until the community has confidence in your person.

If this makes the community feel more at ease, then I am willing to contribute.

In gist:

Give me design files + protos + manu contact. I want to see what I'm working with.

I will pay up front.

I find a 3rd party vendor to work with.

I'll pay someone experienced in the community and reputable with GB's to help with QC before taking money from people.

Yup. I mentioned not knowing what the cost was and went with retail as a basis.

The point was while expensive, I think it’s really manageable.

You’ve been here for a while, so why is it not worth it? “Better board?”

What do you mean?

And what would you suggest if I were trying to help it succeed.

Thanks for your input.

Talk is cheap. Get a vendor on board first and then, just maybe, your offer might be taken into consideration. I have a hard time believing any of the vendors would entertain your offer especially with how outlandish your claim of fronting the cost is but feel free to prove me wrong.

Also, what's in it for you? What would make one want to take a 12k usd loss if things go wrong? Unless this is secretly a wsb thread it seems too good to be true and comes off as a scam, not to say that this whole gb doesn't have the chance of not being one.

Absolutely correct. It’s not for fact that a vendor would work with me. Until OP tells me costs, puts me in contact with manu, and I speak with a vendor and experienced GB runner, nothing is solid.

Which is the precise point of this community and people coming together to make it happen.

I genuinely believe I can help if someone guides me and you can take my posts and see me say and ask several times, get me in contact with a vendor or advise me on how to proceed with one.

I claim willing to front if I am able to work with a vendor, get in contact with manu, and the long post I made detailed what I was after. Bruce and I have talked on discord and we are seeing what can be done. I am reaching out to vendors now and still ask for help.

So if you want to advise me in that direction, please do.

Everything you’re saying I am trying to do now.

Thank you for your post.

Why are the responses to this offer so standoffish?  If I were a vendor, I'd jump at someone offering to take all financial risk off my shoulders.  Is it a crazy thing for someone to offer to do?  Absolutely.  But if he flakes and nothing comes of it, then what was lost aside from some time emailing back and forth?  Don't get me wrong, I could see some vendors keeping their distance because it seems a bit odd, but that's no reason to fire back at the guy with such an intimidating tone.

Alright guys, please stop this here. This is post IC, we should focus on this.

I have talked with Outterspacetits (9mm) through the discord already. I really appreciate and appreciate this offer. But I decided to do everything myself. That's why I keep this buy group very small (20 pcs). With 5 slots in my hometown land + the amount I have in hand, I will take care of the costs to start booking the factory, and the next number will wait for paypal. I also do not expect any vendor to stand for me, because I know they are very risky.

So finally, let me do this alone, responsible alone, and clear my name.

Honestly it doesn't instill confidence that you would rather do it yourself. Clearly you've gathered enough devout followers through your Discord, so I can see why.

Seriously, can we stop now please?

There have been enough posts ****ting on this designer. Those who want to participate in the groupbuy are plenty informed of the history and concerns. I'd like to see this thread change into a constructive one from here on in.

Thanks.

If you think this is scam, just don't join this GB. There are only 20 spots, and at least 20 people who are very interested in this and join the GB, i am one of them. I even want to grab one outside of raffle as "friend and family"  ;D

The concern trolling is super annoying.

If you have concerns, don't join the GB. If you want to take the risk with the GB runner, then join.

OP has no reason to make any modifications as I'm sure he has well over 15 people interested so move on.

I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing an opinion or discussing the past in an IC, but it's been done, and I agree, time to move on.

I super appreciate the support and insight.

I'm really glad someone would at least vouch for the reasoning, even if I've not made a name here yet.

Thank you.

Yes, Bruce has decided to run it on his own to clear his name and he will do the booking; all in all I do wish him luck and hope it works out.

Best of luck with your GB, Bruce.

i Have been searching the internet for a custom TKL with out the super annoying  Windows key.
i stumbled across this site and seen this thread. and this board looks like so good.
are these awesome looking keyboards Still available?
if so how do i go about getting one?

are they a complete kit? or do i have to get key caps and keys separately?
look forward to your reply.

This will be a Group Buy so you should read the sticky (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=77272.0).  In addition to all the warnings in there this one only has 15 slots so you will have to be lucky online at the right time and do whatever quicker than lots of other people, possibly in the middle of the night due to your timezone...

This is for a case and PCB so you will need to add switches, keycaps and stabilisers to build a working keyboard.

If you still want one I wish you luck :)

One addendum to what was said above, the GB for this is a raffle, not first come first serve. So you don't have to beat everyone at purchasing quicker, you just need to be one of the lucky 15 who win the raffle.

UPDATE :

Today I have the official confirmation that June 18 is the turn to anode T_T.  So it took me at least 25/6 prototype v3 to get to my hands.  Sorry for the delay.

So our GB will probably take place in early July.

This still looks good. Despite some of the concerns that were addressed in this post, I am still interested and most likely buy this if I have the chance.

I know that we talked about this on page 1 of the thread but will you still be fixing the Japanese? I see that it hasn't been updated.

The PCB landed yesterday, and here it is

* PCB works well
* USB-C daughter fit is extremely good.
* Perfecting the quality of high-end PCB

This is the PCB test + Prototype V2 (there are still some machining errors // the anode quality is not up to the standard I want)

Since I only have one pack switch, I will wait for the Prototype V3 to assemble and perform the video sound test.

From now on I will update with a clear roadmap like this to make it easier for people to understand the process.

22/6: Prototype V3 is still waiting in line for anode.
The factory I am sending anode has very large orders.
But I will try to get to the queue as soon as possible.

Prototype v3 will coming after few days.

The prototype is now in anodizing factory and waiting for me to pick up. I'm quite busy with the main job so I'll go get it on the weekends.

The Weight photo - raw stainless steel - after milling.
I have been taking this photo for about 2 weeks, but I can't wait any longer. !!

I think it would look a lot better if the circle of the logo was centered, not the bird.

So everything is almost done, I'm sorting and waiting for the PCB to finish QC. Hope next weekend everyone can get their hands on my product.

I only took a few photos because the arrangements were made, so I was very lazy to take pictures again because I was afraid of the mistake

Production is done and will be shipped within this week. The whole GB is approximately 2 months from start to end.
