GMK 3077 (Previously Brown on Beige)

I've decided to overhaul this IC with new sample colours from GMK. I've also taken all the feedback and changed the kitting slightly to better accommodate for everyone's needs. Hopefully most people will be happy with the new kits :')

The inspiration for this set was the OG Cherry dyesub keycaps from the NCR G81-3077SAU, that had faded to a nice brown colour.

I sat at Geonworks with a GMK colour ring and his NCR G81-3077SAU comparing the two and we both came to the conclusion that CB and L9 more closely matches the NCR.

I originally planned to run 3K alphas since I really like the colour contrast but decided to go with the more original one instead.

Let me know in the IC form if you would like to see 3K alphas instead. Photo will be in the form.

I ended up purchasing the Dyesub keycap set and sending GMK the physical samples to colour match off. When I got the samples they were a little off so now I'm waiting for the 2nd round of samples.

Changelog

- Taiwan, EU, China, and Malaysia vendors added.
- Custom colours for the alphas and mods from GMK standard colours. Physical samples were provided.
- Kitting expanded to 5 kits instead of the All in one Base and Hangul Alphas (Num row, Extensions, Spacebars)
- Removal of Extensions kit and moved basic 3 key 40s support to base and 1.75, 1.5u, 1.25u, 1u spacebars moved to spacebars kit
- Pricing adjustment with estimated sales numbers

Brown accents? Brown numrow? I'm in without it but I think there might be a few of us who would roll w a brown alert look on a beige board.

I love R0 and I'd buy a kit but I'm one of a very small subset of people.

Everyone who thinks the pricing is high should remember what MOQ 250 pricing used to look like. Base kits were more than this.

Very cool. Love the inspiration behind the project. As other people have said I do agree that 3K might be the best option to go here when it comes to the alphas, and maybe to fit with the theme more, replicate the keycaps on that NCR board as someone else said, if it is possible. I do think the price is a bit much for a beige set, so if it can be done I would love to see the price lowered down a bit or make it worth the price (such as maybe replicating the NCR Board keycaps, but that would probably make it more expensive if the price is already at 135).

+1 to matching legends to OG NCR, but it’s not a deal maker/breaker for me personally. 3K> too.

Maybe controversial take, but if it helps to get the price down skip the windowed keys. GMK's pad printing has been really bad lately, and I'm someone who loves windowed caps.

Very cool idea otherwise, I also prefer K3.

There seems to be a few different groups of people interested in this set for different reasons, I fall amongst the brown lovers and would LOVE to see brown accents or brown alert style number row. Like some said before me, brown keyboards are gaining in popularity and this set would be a match made in heaven for them.

Considering this is imitating NCR Dye Subs, why not run with a PBT manufacturer unless it's for R0/R5 and that's a requirement if so, hit up CRP/Hammer?

Also, idk if I'm in the minority or maybe i didnt let my NCR sit in the sun long enough but did 3077 legends turn brown when fading?

It's been a while since I've checked back on this post but the set is going to run guaranteed. I'm hoping for mid to late Q1 2024.
I've read through all the feedback and comments and will try to accommodate for everyone.
I'll check back in by November or December with a revised kitting that will hopefully satisfy the majority.

KKB legends are inconsistent. Some are thick and some are thin, the kerning of modifier keys not consistent. Some caps got their legends misaligned vertically.

-the second "ac" from "Backspace" is fat
-"PgUp" is thick, "Pg Dn"is thin
-"e" from "Home" is thin
-"d" from "End" is thin
-"s" from "Insert" is thick
- "P" from "Pause" is thick
- "u" from "Pause" is partially thick

The kerning of modifier keys not consistent
- "T a b" can be better
- "Pg Dn" must be fixed (see "PgUp")
- "p" from "Caps Lock" is low
- "F 2"
- "F 9"
- "5" from "F5" is lower than "F"
- "Ente r"?

Some caps got their legends misaligned vertically.
- "Print", "Insert", "Delete", "End" these legends are not centered vertically. A bit higher

Sorry about the delay. I've been waiting for samples from GMK and wanted the edited render files before releasing any information.

That price is actually really good.

I mentioned this in the IC but would like to say it in the thread as well. For true mx hhkb compatibility could you add a bottom row 1u alt (would 100% buy if it had this) also if you are gonna include mod tilde you might as well include mod pipe as well.

Also Also why was it changed from r5 to r4, not against it but considering the inspiration it seems weird to do so.

but this is still really cool, will probably pick it up when it goes to GB.

I don't need this, but it's hard to say no to grey/beige with windowed caps and UK ISO in base. Any chance of a macro kit? Feels like it would go well with the NCR theme as the G80-0528 had a macro row (though they were technically Function keys)

Is one of the three stepped CapsLocks in the Base kit supposed to be stepped Control?

Nice set, agree the ISO enter needs am accent option. Has UK ISO but will just have Esc in brown.

I feel like designers are starting to use r5 a lot more, now that all the keyset designers who came in during the panemdic to make a quick buck are gone and didn't really care about profile that much, r4 is far more mainstream because it became the standard. I don't mind r4 but vintage inspired sets like this need r5 to keep in theme.

This looks quite nice! Likely in for this GB. The Horangi boards also look fantastic.
