Typing on the TGR-Jane with vintage/old browns. I'm actually liking the switches, definitely not my first choice but I don't mind typing on the board.
Any reason you're using those switches?
Not in particular, wanted to try different switches and have a board that could be used in a work-space environment without pissing anyone off. Even though I'm in college and have a few years before I get a job haha. I've been trying to have all different switches in my boards, an RS96 with 62g Vintage Blues, Orion v2 with 62g Tactile Zealios, Jane with Vintage/Old Browns, and planning on Jane CE with 62g Vintage Clears or maybe Ergo Clears.
Some very impressive boards to be trying switches out on
Yeah haha, luckily I've enjoyed all the switches I've put on my boards otherwise it would be a pain to desolder. Something about my 62g Vintage Blues makes me keep wanting to come back to them, they just have the perfect pitch and bump to it. Zealios with a plastic plate is quite a unique option, it makes the switches very quiet but the tactility of it is amazing. I then have stock Clear and Blue Pok3rs that I never touch, planning on getting rid of them when ever I get some free time.
Man, I really really want some vintage MX white switches so I can transfer their stems in my Zealios for my next Octagon build. I'm definitely going to use holtite sockets for that build though, so I can swap switches if I end up not liking them as much as I think I will.
As someone who's used vintage ergo clears on a PCB before, I can only imagine a plastic plate being somewhat similar, and the feel is quite nice.
I've been wanting to try some holtite sockets one of these times. I don't know how often I'd be swapping out the switches though because doing a full board would be a pain. I definitely want to lube the vintage clears if I can get my hands on some, filphil sent me a few different switches and the lubed clear felt the best to me.
Haha, well I decided to use them, at first, out of hype that formed around the Smart 68, but I do like the convenience, especially for boards that might not use plate designs that allow for switch top opening. I definitely want to use them in the Octagon as I'm really unsure where I want to go with it. At first I was thinking vintage clears, then linear zealios (I have vintage blacks in my current Octagon), and then finally vintage mx white.
I definitely want a switch with a translucent slider because I'd love to see how the RGB glow from the PCB illuminates up through the switch (I bet it won't be dramatic at all), but eh. I want to go for vintage MX white because it's the MX type I have least experience with. I do have a set of MX greens, but that won't fit here.
Eh, well... With hotswapping, at least you have the assurance in knowing that you CAN swap it whenever you'd like. Compared to having to
desolder an entire keyboard, simply pulling them out would be a lot less time consuming or frustrating.
