It's a higher quality tracking ball, but is smaller than the 25mm one in an M5-2.

That's what I was thinking. In theory, you could have some sort of hypersensitive design capable of dealing with very small movements, but then you'd be better off with a Trackpoint...

Yeah, Brandon has more M15s than he has M5-1s... It's funny, because they entered into production in the same year as the M5-2. Either they realized that they had a dud very quickly, or they made two designs and let market demand decide which was better

That's funny. I've seen M5-1's in use at the public library in my town and more people I've talked to know about them than the M5-2's.
