Very happy that it's finally happening, the IC felt like it lasted so long.

Hopefully. I've been pestering the manufacturers for updates about when it will be finished for the past couple of days. The machining on them was done a while back and they were waiting on anodisation.

I placed my order and I'm hoping for a speedy delivery. I presume this is conservative time-frame and given it's open and for 3 weeks, I'm super interested in seeing numbers ordered once GB closes.

Also, the three prototypes you have don't include the gray, right?

Correct. The last prototype I'm getting will be grey.

I prefer the 6u bottom row aesthetically (not a big fan of mixing 1.25u and 1.5u mods); where is a good place to source a 6u stab wire from? If memory serves, some old Cherry 1800/11800/11900 boards have them, but I was wondering if there is anything out there that wouldn't require me harvesting a full board for just one stab wire.

I'm very excited to join the buy! I'm torn between blue with silver accents or the completely murdered out black look, currently.

If you look on the included items in the kit, there is a line item that says "1x Genuine Cherry 6u stabilizer," so it looks like they are going through the effort of sourcing the 6u for you.

Been out of the loop with mechanical keyboards since I picked up my M60-A at the end of 2018. Glad I decided to come on here the other day! :D

Picked up the e-white colourway, but forgot to pick-up a spare PCB... Think I'm going to put Serika on here, but GMK Peaches N Cream looks so clean.

In for E-white with the PVD weight and logo. The Kuro/Shiro shots just look too good and plenty of other sets such as GMK Bleached or Sumi would also look great with the black contrast. Can't say I haven't been incredibly tempted to get a black one too.

Kuro/Shiro will be coming back this year but with some alterations. Epbt had a hard time making the black accent keys so most of those are out but I might be able to keep the novelty.

Any chance you run kuro/shiro in gmk as well? Actually, I just want it in ABS instead of PBT, so even JTK will do :p.

Wilba PCBs are usually pretty rock solid, but for such an expensive board, I would get a backup PCB.

Not really because it's PCB mount. If there is a need for it, I'd consider running a GB for replacement PCBs in the future, much like what Fox Labs are doing.

Edit: Another maybe foolish question, if i go for layout option 2 (6.25 u spacebar), im still able to go for the normal backspace in the top row instead of the 2 keys?

your choice, but Bleached's white (WS1 I think?) is brighter than E-White, if that helps. I bought two pcbs. One for Dark and tactiles, and one for Masterpiece. Haven't decided what to use with Masterpiece yet, most likely clickies.

How does the stainless steel weight's durability compare to other more common keyboard materials like anodized aluminum and pvd coated brass or even uncoated brass?

Is it easy to repair cosmetic issues like scratches or scuffs on the stainless?

the pcb will, im sure, support both pcb screw in and pcb clip in stabs. which is what 99% of modern pcbs support.

Stainless steel is less durable than the anodised surface of aluminium but more resilient than raw aluminium or brass.
There are stainless steel polishing kits and you can buff out small scratches.
There are also stainless steel protection sprays but these look to be pretty expensive

So wait, you only want to get in on this GB if it's sold in low quantities?  Not because you want to support the GB organizer and/or genuinely appreciate the product - do I have that right?

Sounds elitist, but then QA might be more consistent with lower quantities.

Without caps, I'm sure plenty of customs would. Keycult had 2500+ people join their raffle. LZ Physix got to around 250 units before the GB was shut down early. I'm sure Rama's boards have sold that much.

Also, I've heard PVD is a b*tch to QC. So the fact that is an unlimited GB with that in mind makes the worry about total units sold a valid concern IMO.

Sure, but PVD is an addon.  Standard units come with the more unique weight, IMO.  SS is neat!

I was looking forward to a black PVD option for the weight. I was expecting it to be a replacement option, but it turned out to be a whole other option. I need to be responsible with my keeb money so I decided to not get it (as much as it breaks my heart) and just look for some local service to coat and color the raw SS weight.

That's a good idea, actually!  For me, I went with the grey case so I think the SS weight will look pretty dope as-is!

Linear go with polycarbonate plate
Otherwise go with alu plate

Elitest, and also a bit hyperbole.  When's the last time the GB for a custom board went over 700 units? (inb4 it's way more common than I think)
The polaris that just shipped was over 1000 board.

What kind of stabilizers are supported/recommended? I'm a bit confused on the different types. (PCB mounted, PCB screw mounted, plate mounted.)

I recommend Durock screw-in stabs.

I have finally stumbled upon a keyboard layout I was looking for! I got fed up with 60% - which can be limiting for MOBAs with a lot of micro-control. Anyway, I'm planning on using KAM Wraiths and Bushido Stabs. Since I own a keyboard that has plate mounted Gateron Clears (and I am very happy with the overall performance), I got really used to them due to my excessive gaming and typing/coding sessions. Would you recommend using those same switches on this PCB? I guess it could be more prone to damage since the plate provides a feeling of sturdiness, but I don't mind re-soldering new switches. Or, if you'd recommend an alternative? I have previously used Cherry Reds, but I have a feeling that a heavy 3-year usage has taken its toll

If you're into linears, maybe get some creams and lube them up to avoid scratchy switches. Any switches will do, just up to you.

Can't release this information, sorry.
I hope you do change your mind and release at least like 100 figures as it does affect purchasing decisions.
Really? Why?
I don't want to join a 700 pvd board gb.

Definitely a concern considering the proposed timeline for release. PVD QC is a nightmare.

This is the second leaf-spring keyboard I've seen (first being Thermal). But is anyone else concerned about the PCB's life span? Thermal was a plate-based leaf-spring, while 7V is a PCB-based leaf-spring. I'm no material engineer, or familiar with how much flex a PCB can withstand, but some of the joints are near "hot-zones"(places where people tend to button mash keys. E.g there's one next to the arrows keys). Slight flexing from thousands of keypresses over 10 years adds up.

Again, I'm not familiar with material fatigue or the materials used in PCBs in general, but I'm interested in informed opinions. Replacing a uniquely designed PCB such as the 7V's would be nearly impossible 10 years from now.

I asked on the discord and no one seemed too concerned(due to the polymers used in the PCB), so maybe it's just me. I figured I'd also ask the GH community.

I'm definitely excited for this GB.

I'm no expert, but it was my understanding that the plate and the dampener would help against button mashing.

Would it be possible to use plate-mount switches in this in some capacity? I understand that this is primarily a PCB mount system but with the aluminum plate + foam ontop I was wondering if the switches will be more secure? I have some switches that I unfortunately already clipped to work in my current plate mount board :(

Yes, you can use plate mounted switches. It will be harder to get them straight but it's not too bad. One of the prototypes was built with box clickies which come as plate mount only.

Nothing to do with the plate, talking about the thin strips on the PCB.

Everything is going to be inspected by one of our collaborative team at the factory before even shipping out. We are accounting for the defect rate by making sure that we order plenty of extras on that part. PVD is very tricky to get right, but we are doing everything possible to make sure that there are no hiccups.

I can't speak for the PCB, as I am not an engineer, but from the samples I have, it would seem very unlikely that someone could break this from normal usage.

I wish I could justify spending this much money on a keyboard without any sound tests available before the GB period ends. It probably sounds good, but I can't risk it.

Also, if there is anyone from the production side of things who knows a bit about materials engineering and is checking this thread, I'd like to echo the question from HorrorStorm and hmmmwhatsthis about the long-term durability of the thin PCB strips being used as a mounting method. I'd hate to be a proud owner of this board a few years from now when those strips finally snap from repeated stress, leaving me with a ~$500 paperweight.

I would imagine because of the depth of the case that it would be almost impossible to flex the PCB to snapping point.

Custom and proprietary parts is something I hate in this hobby. I don't get it why anyone would like to have 500$ case made completely unusable when 40$ PCB fails inside the keyboard.

Designers in this hobby should invest more in designing compatible parts.

Its not quite the same, but in the IC thread there are renders of the grey case showing the black PVD badge, but I don't think there is any that show the weight.

Its not quite the same, but in the IC thread there are renders of the grey case showing the black PVD badge, but I don't think there is any that show the weight.

It should at least help you see the contrast between them.
I did see the IC thread and like the grey case with black badge a lot. But I'm having a hard time imagining the black weight in the back with all the reflections like in the photos of the black prototype. I just can't get over that look... but a grey case works better for my keysets. I'm stumped over if I like the look of the black pvd weight itself, or if it's more because it matches so well with the black case.

Also to add, price is a major concern for me, like, I think I'd like grey with black weight, but is it like $160 (USD) better than grey with stainless steel y'know? :p I'm not sure if I'll regret spending that much on just the weight if I end up not liking it as much as I thought, or if I'll regret not having the weight in the end by trying to save money. Was hoping a render would help me finalize my decision.

I know I said that I won't be doing more renders but I'm making an exception this time because there aren't any photos of the grey prototype so it has been a bit underrepresented.

We know a lot of people were wanting to see a build along with some typing test before purchasing.

Unfortunately due to delays with COVID-19 the protos did not arrive in time. Because of this, we are extending the GB until end of day May 5. This will allow a couple protos to be built - Taeha Types and Apiary Keyboards will both be building one before then.

TLDR: GB extended until May 5.

Gok - absolutely beautiful keyboard! Any chance the microcontroller on the PCB will have sufficient unused pins that a rotary encoder could be hand-wired in? Seems to me that lonely key to the right of the F12 is a prime candidate for a custom mod job, if I can solve the round-peg in a square-hole problem without ruining the looks... ;-)

If a rotary encoder is what you're after then it'd probably be better to wait for the Satisfaction75 R2.

Stainless Steel: 7,982 kg/m3
Brass: 8,587 kg/m3
So about the same. Brass is ~7,5% heavier.

Custom and proprietary parts is something I hate in this hobby. I don't get it why anyone would like to have 500$ case made completely unusable when 40$ PCB fails inside the keyboard.

Designers in this hobby should invest more in designing compatible parts.

i'm new to this hobby. currently using a GK64 board with a 2Kg alu body i got on aliexpress. this is exactly what prevents me from getting a fancy KB.

you should order both like everyone else lol.

it'll be a lot more than that. because so many proprietary parts are involved, you *should* order spares now. my shopping cart (pre tax and shipping) is $600 already for 1 board. and i'm not even adding the PVD weight that i really want.

At the very least you should purchase a spare PCB. Prepare for the worst down the line. Also helpful if you want to rotate switch configurations more easily. You may want to add a plate as well (you would use that spare PCB in combo with the plate. You could also just mount direct to PCB - no plate build, but your call)

Yes. Grey and black (+PVD blackout kit with logo and weight) for me. I would probably just get one if Dawn and Evolv ran unlimited GBs, but they're both doing raffles and since I can't guarantee getting any of them, I just ordered two V7s. If I get the Dawn and/or Evolv, I'll probably flip one of the 7Vs (unless I like it too much).

Thank you for the info. I'm planning to get the black but will wait to see what Taeha got and how it looks and sounds (if it is not identical to gasp's build).

I feel so stuck. I love the Grey, White, and Blue. I can't choose which. First world problems. For keycaps I'm planning on getting the Deku keycap set. The Ishtar keycap set. The Kat Explosion keycap set. Along with the Sparta keycap set. When the GB come around.

My first journey in this hobby and I'm diving in HARD. I already following some keyboard IC I'm looking to get when they open up the GB.

Got myself the Blue with Polycarbonate plate. Finally! :D Been following this project for so long, and now I finally ordered it!

Gonna probably pair it with either GMK Mizu or Phosphorus (I really hope I can snag a set when extras are available for sale...)

When getting switches for this, should I get the plate mount or PCB mount? Or is it Personal preference?

It doesn't matter too much but if you have a choice then I'd get the 5 pin PCB mount as that will make mounting them straight easier. Especially if you're going to go plate-less.

I suspect the darker grey is the accurate one since the GMK Oblivion keys look pretty accurate.

Nathan probably has harsh/bright lights in his room for streaming.

Would be great to get confirmation before the GB ends, I actually am leaning towards the grey if it’s closer to what I saw on Nathan’s stream.

Weird, this didn't include my reply for some reason.

It would be good to know the actual color before the GB ends.

ApiaryKeyboards used a regular pc plate and Taehatypes used a flex pc plate I believe. You can check out their streams to get an idea.

Also I just got in for an E-White with PVD logo and weight. Would have gotten a black one as well if the board didn't cost me and arm and a leg.

Mykeyboard.eu? There is a link in the product description for colour.

Otherwise if another vendor, the product pages have colours when you buy.

I'm pretty surprised the grey proportion is that small, I'm used to seeing it be the most in demand.  Perhaps it's because the sample was fairly late to arrive. Congrats on the smashing success so far, here's to hoping the rest of the GB goes smoothly  :thumb:

I think you are right. When GB first opened, there weren't any proto photos of the grey and people only had one render to go off unless they trawled through the IC.
White being the most popular colour wasn't a surprise though.

Yeah, easy to predict white being popular when it's the same base price and most other group buys make white more expensive.

i wanted a grey KB, but not this particular grey. i'm surprised it sold as well as it did. i expected maybe 5% grey, from people going for some specific theme and/or trying to match some caps. also, this grey doesn't look good with either the steel or the PVD weight. e-white looks good with the PVD weight, blue looks good with the steel. black always looks good with whatever. i got white and blue. i thought about getting a PVD weight but in the end it was just too much money spent already.

I thought the blue looks good with SS weight as well, but I got the PVD weight and logo just for durability coz the SS would get smudges and scratched up over time.

It does, if the blue wasn't an option I would've gone with the grey, but the blue is more unique and I wasn't going to buy 2 so I had to let it go.

I would be very interested to know the number of purchases between 3pm EST and 11:59 EST on May5. Not gonna happen but just a bit of trivia I'd be interested in.

The Apiary stream actually turned me off from buying one; however, Taeha's stream was the exact opposite and I ended up pulling the trigger. Not once, but twice. /shrug

Interesting, what did you see in the Apiary stream that turned you off? I thought it was even more positive that Teaha's.

Yea I was gonna say this as well. It sounded way better in her stream to me. I was already getting one, but her's convinced me way more.

I really wanted the brass but for a couple hundred more, I could have another board so opted for white and black.

I can just spray paint the stainless steel black for like $5. Problem solved. ;P

ditto. 2 boards, white and blue. i'll leave the blue as is since blue looks better with the steel weight. white is getting a matte black paint job. i had my 2013 mercedes C63 painted in matte black, the shop did an amazing job. let's hope i can get them to paint this weight, lol.

I have not much experience with e-white boards.. but, do we know if the e-white on this board is gonna be closer to a "warmer" WS1 or a cooler WS2 color ? (referencing GMK stock colors)

I don’t mind the SS in either so they’ll most likely stay stock. There’s a cerakote shop close to me if I ever decide to customize it. Just not sure what the tolerance is, esp with the badge.

Ok so probably something in between WS2 and 2M? I was wondering because I was trying to find a keycap set that would match the e-white on here.. idk if you have some ideas

right.. but so is everyone else. But i'm merely asking a question and not a complaint.

Here are some other Group buys

Austin R2 - Opens May 16th, Lead time 5-6 months (end of the year delivery)
Prophet 60% - Group buy ended May 1st, Shipping in August-September 2020
Kei - Group buy ends on May 20th, shipping Q3 2020
Heavy Metal - Group Buy end of May/beginning of June, shipping on Q3 2020

7V - Group buy ends May 5th, shipping Q1 of 2021

The 7v is taking 6 months longer than any other boards to make.

I can understand 2 or 3 months of "padding" but 6 months is a long time. A human baby can almost be conceived from the date of impregnation.

Could there be more reasons behind this?

My response wasn't meant to be flippant. If you look at the GB for Kei, it's only open for 7 days. I think a better comparison would probably be to RAMA's U80 GB which was also unlimited. It started this time last year and is set for delivery soon.

The polishing of the SS weights is also going to be no joke, that's one a the reasons for the higher costs and I imagine it will take a fair bit of time to do for however many units sold in the 3-4 weeks that this GB was open for.

I ended up getting three boards.. black, white, grey, and two sets of the black logo/weight. I only plan on keeping two boards for my wife and I. Mine will probably be the grey wearing 8008s. My wife will probably get the white, but I'm not sure what set to use yet. If I can find someone selling GMK botanical then I'll probably go with that. White wolf looks pretty sick too, though..

So many choices.

I mean, you'd still have to wait. We're all waiting. The boards are supposed to arrive in 2021. Basically every GB board needs lead time for production. The only way to get a quick first build off is to buy one of the always-in-stock kits from some of the vendors or getting a second-hand kit from mechmarket.

Thanks for everyone joining this GB! We are super excited to place the order and start production on these boards.

One thing to note for my customers - we do NOT allow the selling or transferring of GB spots.

The 7v is taking 6 months longer than any other boards to make.

looks like someone here never bought a RAMA board. lol.

jokes aside, this was the first big unlimited group buy, as far as i know. it probably sold at least 1000 units (some people think it was closer to 2k) and had a PVD weight option. PVD always adds time since it's a nightmare to QC. do NOT compare it to 200 keyboard group buys

also, just because a group buy is promising a 6 month turn around time, doesn't mean it will happen. and given the current situation, it probably wont even if the runner is not. i'm pretty sure that there are GB runners that know they will need more time but are not saying anything yet because they don't want to stir the mob, which is essentially want the mech community has become with the influx of the covid hobbyists.

ANYWAY, the reason i popped in here was to say that after looking at the GB again, i wish i had picked up a PVD weight :/
now i'll probably have to shell out 2x-3x as much on it if i really want it. i got a white and blue board. while the blue board will look better with the silver weight, the white would probably need a PVD weight to really shine.

Ya I knew lol, not that I was going to buy it but I was trying to see what they were asking. Can I ask why you don’t allow this? And what happens if a original buyer no longer wants their spot, is it relinquished to you as an extra?

There are no refunds so not sure what the circumstance would be where a buyer would give up their spot.

Understood, thanks for clearing that up.
Are extras considered when someone wants to give up their spot and you now become the owner, which is later on sold?

I am not 100% sure what you are asking. But if someone needs to cancel their order for unexpected reasons, we will work with the original purchaser on that. If it comes down to a cancellation, than that spot will turn into an extra that will be available later on.

They order extra boards, more than they sold at group buy.

[/quote]

group buy runners and vendors pretty much always manufacture or order more items than they have buyers for. this applies to keycaps, keyboards, etc. the idea is that if something comes in defective, they have a spare to fulfill the order. once all orders are fulfilled, whatever is left is an extra. if a keyboard has small defects, it is sometimes sold as a "B stock" extra. for unlimited group buys, vendors will buy extras with their own money and sell at higher prices just to earn extra money on the side.

It is going fast, until we hit a hiccup

e.g anodising colors don't look good
e.g. anodising mis-match
e.g. polishing taking too long.
e.g. employees go on strike
e.g. pandemic wave 3

don't jinx us man.

321.51 by 142.74. If its not in millimeters, but in inches or centimeters, that would be a HUGE board.

There would almost definitely be an extra E-White. Now... whether or not you'll be able to land it in extras with the current state of the scene is a different story entirely.

The keyboard community has seen unprecedented growth over the past year. The moment extras, or anything limited comes out that is in decently high demand, expect it to be sold out in seconds for FCFS.

UPDATE:

Case production is complete. PCBs are currently in production. Cases are going through QC and packaging right now. Cases are estimated to ship from China before CNY. However shipping will take around 30-45 days. PCBs are expected to finish early March and will be shipped direct to vendors. Cases and PCBs should arrive around the same time to vendors. I would expect that shipping to customers will happen March-April. Slight delay from our initial estimate of February, but things are still going smoothly.

All vendors have extras, but that will happen after the original GB ships out.

7305 Mill-Max sockets are shorter in length the pins on switches. So they will work on any board, as long as the pin holes are standard size.

I bought two PCBs for my 7v, so I'm going to mill-max one and use that to test all different types of switches.

accidentally made the wrong plate choice when purchasing, will all extras drop at the same time (maybe month or more after GB items have completed shipping) or will current GB members be able to get a plate before then.  Ideally would like to build soon after receiving the board and avoid the wait.

Nobody gets priority on extras, you’ll have to fight with everyone else when they eventually go live.

Everything is complete and in route to vendors. We are still waiting on cases and the PCBs. I believe this is the case for the rest of the proxies as well. It is very soon though!

Does it mean we can only use single color LED on 7V? Any recommendation for the LED on 7V?

Slightly bad news. NovelKeys order is stuck on a freight ship outside of LA right now. They are having massive backlogs and delays. We do not have a strong ETA on when our boat will be able to unload and clear customs.

The ship was initially supposed to unload in February.

The post from NK literally says they have no ETA. That means they can’t tell you when it’s going to arrive.

However I’d be very very surprised if it got unloaded from a ship, through customs, transported to NK, unpacked, sorted, packed and shipped to you in less than 2 weeks.

No, extras will be announced later on through each vendor. Typically vendors sell extras once all GB orders have been shipped out and there aren't any issues, in case replacements need to be made for the buyers.

How do I go about updating my address? I would prefer to have it sent to my current address, but my old roommates still live at the address I lived in when I originally ordered so I could pick it up from there, but it would be easier if I could change it to my current one.

not in a way that would be perceivable by the human eye, or even a ruler. i was told by the company who did work on my house that electrophoresis and cataphoresis coating is more durable than anodizing, but doesn't alter the size enough to make something not fit where it otherwise would have had it been anodized.

i guess for that reason, you can use the same PVD badge and weight on both the ano and e-white cases. if e-white made the case thicker, it would need a different badge.

Poron foam for between the case and the weight. It was added last minute by suggestion from the designer after experimenting with it right after production ended.

It will affect tolerances though. For example, the E-white Koyu was a ***** to fit together.

I think the Thinkv2 had tolerance issues too.

Yeah. When the group buy was running I didn't yet have a custom board and 7V's design really spoke to me. I still think it's the best looking board I've ever seen.

I bought two as well. E-white as usual for me, and after watching Taeha build the grey with VoC I felt the "need" for that combo, so I caved and bought the grey also :-\

Personally, I don't buy to flip; however, knowing that it's a fairly safe investment, I will often buy multiple colors on open GB's if I'm indecisive. Haven't committed to Salvation yet but the available colors got me shook!

All parts received! We will start shipping these out this week. These will go out in batches most likely based on color. We should be able to get them all shipped out by the end of next week. Please be patient with this process!

It will probably be well after everyone has received their 7v units in case there are any issues. I don't think NK could say right now.

Okay the first batches that are going out are for single keyboard orders with no add-ons.

E-White Poly
E-White Aluminum
Blue Poly
Blue Aluminum

These are being packed now, and will be picked tomorrow. Tomorrow we will package all remaining single keyboard orders with no add-ons. Those will be picked up on Monday.
From there we will just be doing random batches. We should be able to have all of these shipped out by Friday, May 7.

No idea when we will post extras.

No, it will be worth it if your PCB dies some day or you want to rebuild! I guess I can wait another week for my grey with extra PCB and PC plate!  :D

So just received my ewhite 7v and its beautiful, but unfortunately the extra plate and pcb i ordered did not come in my package...

I have already contacted NovelKeys about this, but im a little concerned because i see the extras have already all sold out. Will there be any PCB's/plates set aside for orders that were messed up?

The extras being sold out is probably a fossil from when the group buy when live. They have not opened extras up for sale yet. Distributors typically wait until all orders have been received by customers in order to remedy the problems like the one you have.

This! Extras have not been put out, as all orders have not been shipped yet. NK should be able to take care of you and get you what you need. It will be after all orders have been received that extras will go out.

i feel like there should be a ton of extras on r/mm because a lot of people were buying 2, 3 or even 4 of these at a time. i bought 3, every color except black. already have too many black keebs. i will pick 1 and sell the others and the extra accessories. i saw a lot of people buy extras. so there should be a lot of these going around and prices, in theory, shouldn't be so bad since there are so many of them. also, the covid crowd is exiting the hobby. that should help with the prices.

Just saw a an unboxing stream of the 7v on Twitch (mechmerlin). He noticed the plate foam was no way near lining up with the plate, and seemed to be the wrong size completely. Someone in chat mentioned two of his friends had this problem too. I'm still waiting on mine from NK. Has anyone else seen this? Are they all like this?

Mine arrived today - I just checked and compared to his unboxing; my foam looked the same as his and then I put a couple of switches on and it all lines up.
It stretches just a little to cover the entire plate.

Non-issue.

Same here, but for my grey w/ extras! Can't wait.

Now for me to figure out what configuration I want to go with. I have lubed/filmed Alpacas. Will I use my aluminum, polycarb, or FR4 plate I ordered in a separate groupbuy? I have an extra PCB coming too! I have some C3 Olivia stabs to go with my caps, but I also have some Alpaca themed Durock stabs. Decisions, decisions... What is everyone else going with for theirs?

If you haven't had issues with ESD with other previous keyboards, chances are you won't have issues here either.
To put the lack of ESD protection issue into context, Wilba has designed PCBs for RAMA and Keycult so there a tons of boards out there in the wild and it hasn't been an issue.

In saying that, I believe he has since switched to the C3 version for the daughterboard for his newer designs.

Well, I often 'zap' the lights off of my NK65 aluminum by simply touching the case. Unplugging/plugging the cable usually fix it. I've no idea if the NK65 has ESD protection though...

Anyway, my order includes a spare PCB so I should be covered.

Thanks for the reply Gok. You've designed a wonderful keyboard.

if you are worried about ESD that much, just wear latex/nitrile/vinyl gloves when building the board. problem solved. as mentioned above, wilba made this PCB and his stuff is top notch. i built about a dozen keyboard with his PCBs in the past and it's never been a problem.

I'm not concerned about static charges when building the board but when using it. Sorry if I sounded like I was not confident in Wilba's abilities to design great PCBs. I am.

I'm just a guy who waited a year for it's first keyboard, who seems to attract static charges like Nicholas Tesla and takes a shock every time he touch things that remotely looks like metal, and don't want to end up with a 5 pounds paperweight.

It looks like it's a non issue, so thanks guys for reassuring me.

It makes no difference but for deskeys films in switches, I tend to have glossy side down for no good reason.

The case is metal. The weight is metal. Metal on metal noise, even minor ones, is usually not very pleasant. Contact Pad provides compression and a shim between case metal and weight metal to dampen said unpleasant noise, thereby improving overall acoustics of the board.

I was testing the main PCB and found one that was missing and I couldn’t find any in the bag, and same on my backup PCB. Got mine a few days ago. The packaging wasn’t very good. Novelkeys put all the extras into the main 7V box, which doesn’t close all the way. It was put into a slightly larger cardboard box with a single layer of bubble wrap. :(

I had an extra pcb and aluminum plate. One of the pcbs is super bowed, not sure if it was because of the packaging. Did anyone else have an issue with packaging?

Yep that's how mine was packaged. Like they made no room for extras in the 7v box and just stuffed it on top. I also didn't get bubble wrap to stop the 7v box from sliding around, it was just the 7v box in the larger shipped cardboard box. One corner of the top half of the 7v box was basically cut open. Luckily none of the contents were damaged though. Sorry about your pcb, could be annoying if you're trying to build it plateless.

I ordered with 2 pcb extras and not enough care was put into the packaging. Box did not close all the way and all 3 pcbs included ended up being bowed. I'll still be building regardless but am definitely a bit miffed.

Durock V2 stabs are wider than standard stabilizers and are a VERY tight fit with the aluminum plate for me like they catch onto the plate and add friction. Am probably gonna run with C3 stabilizers here.

same problem. all the extra PCBs and plates were stuffed into one of the two 7V boxes that clearly did not have enough space for them. to add insult to injury, the shipping box was too small and did not actually close. spent $1100 on this GB and waited over a year just to get bent parts. all they had to do was ask for a few more dollars to cover the extra cost of shipping and boxes, i would have paid.

Same thing here.  I ordered the board, two extra PCBs and one extra plate from NK, and all were stuffed into the 7V box, which wasn't even close to being closed.  To make things worse, the 7V box was free-floating inside the shipping box.  Since the daughterboard was packed in the ESD bag with the PCB, now all of the PCBs are bowed around the location of the daughterboard, which is where the pressure from the box was being placed on them.  I don't see any missing diodes or other damage through the ESD bags, but I will be testing the PCBs tonight.

Just as a heads up, a majority of the boxes that we received were damaged upon arrival. Ends split, or crinkled is how they arrived to us. We dont have any extra boxes, and cant replace them. The boxes, though, should not damage any of the actual boards.

Regarding PCBs having warp, this is actually very normal and should not impact the PCBs functionality. Please make sure to check them before soldering.

It seems like USPS lost my 7v on Friday, no scans since then (when it was already in my city). I hope it shows up soon.

are you using the 6u wire in the box? Not so often to see 6u build.

this is 6.25U. look closer, the left alt is a 1.25U key. i ran this layout by gok himself. this was his response:

6U is just too small of a space bar for me. i wish 7U was an option.

Received my blue 7V today. No external damage on the outside box, perfectly sealed. 7V box was mint, no bumps, nothing. Board looks gorgeous, no scratches inside or out. Tested both pcbs, there is some warping but everything works fine. This is my first keyboard group buy and I'm really happy to finally getting one. Worth the wait! Too bad the keyset I intended to use with it (Kat Atlantis) wont ship anytime soon...

Since this is my first soldered board, I pulled out the Practice 65 I bought months ago and soldered all switches without any problems. I intend to build the 7V this weekend. Hopefully it'll go as well.

Thanks to NovelKeys, Gok and Wilba for this wonderful keyboard.

PS: This thing is heavy as hell!

Got my white board from NovelKeys, no issues. Thanks to Mike for being so transparent with communication the entire year up to shipping and to Gok for designing such a great board. The entire experience is really well done from the packaging to the little design details.

Does anyone have any pointers on some of the things that one should check to find defects? I have no plans to build in this case for several months. I've already checked that the PCB/Daughterboard are working as well as looked for issues on the exterior of the case.

I love this keyboard in feel, aesthetics, and sound. But I've had a few surprising moments with this sharp edge while picking up the board, especially on a 3kg banger. It seems this same weight design is going to carry over to the Type K as well. Possibly just me that feels cautious about handling!

Well this board is a killer indeed ;)

Jokes aside, the weight can be super sharp, so be very careful with it.

Got my 7V built, looks and sounds great. HOWEVER, I cannot believe out of every thread/post I’ve read that nobody else had the same QC issue as me. On the weight, the screw holes to hold the USB C connector in place has 1 hole that isn’t tapped, and one that’s too big. Meaning 2/4 screws aren’t in place properly and my USB C connector is loose as heck.

Have contacted MyKeyb but don’t know if they have any weights left. Quite disappointed…

Edit: my box was also damaged

I have 2 weights and both are perfect. I have a PCB that was made incorrectly (the side breakoff tabs are actually connected to the PCB) but I can still technically use it if I modify it which should be easy. Novelkeys sent me a replacement anyways (THANK YOU). Ive heard of some PCBs being made incorrect but have never heard on discord of the weights not being tapped correctly. So Its probably super rare and you just got unlucky. Hopefully you can get a replacement.

The shipping could have been slightly better. While the actual 7V box is amazing and super luxurious, it was shipped inside a bigger box with no foam or bubble wrap. So the 7V box with heavy ass parts was just bouncing around in the shipping box getting damaged. My 7V box was slightly damaged at the corners but everything inside was perfectly fine.

Overall a smooth and satisfactory experience on my end. Loving the 7V.

I think vendors are still dealing with 7V GB orders like replacing faulty parts or incorrect orders. Once they fix all of that then the extras should be announced.

My first thought that it could have been spring ping but you have already lubed them.
Have you tried other switches? We had a meetup in NZ over the weekend with multiple 7Vs using different setups but I didn't encounter any with a metallic sound so I'm not sure what the issue would be.

Did you put foam underneath the pcb? I'm running a plateless build and when I put an anti slip mat underneath I had a lot of pinging noise.

I think you can also get this problem if you're cable isn't seated properly in the recess making the pcb sit higher than it should be

It's really only noticeable in a quiet environment. So most of the time I don't hear it cause of fans or music in the background, but if I'm typing something in a silent room I can hear it a little. I haven't tried other switches.

I had a similar issue but I figured out what was causing it.
The PCB leaf springs weren't seated flush with the case because the daugtherboard cable wasn't sitting completely within the groove.

That said, demand will be crazy. If you get the warning that Tomo is going to hit human limit, I would pull the trigger.

I figured it would be worth throwing it out there haha and yeah I know chances are super low I would even be able to get ahold of an extra but I personally like the design of the 7V more than the Tomo, so its at least worth a try.

Don’t see why not since you won’t be sacrificing any flex as you might with a pc plate. If you’re using marshmallows I’m guessing you wouldn’t mind possibly getting a slightly more muted/thocky sound.

Here's my build :)

Black 7V with black logo + black weight.
Alu plate

marshmallow switches lubed and filmed

Equalz pink stabs with rose gold wires

GMK Olivia Light Base with pink space bar.

Has anyone tried removing starches from their weight? I accidentally wiped the weight with the same micro fiber cloth i used to remove the leftover machining material from the inside :( ( Scratches are on my SS weight not the black).

In theory you should be able to polish SS to remove small scratches.

Maybe practice on some silverware before trying on the weight.

Hi fellow 7V peoples.
Svenge here.
I'm working on implementing some improved lighting affects for this board.  I wasn't satisfied with the stock VIA compatible lighting and no caps-lock indicator.
Here's where I am at:
https://imgur.com/gallery/gksdhw5 (https://imgur.com/gallery/gksdhw5) (40s video)

And here's an image to catch your eye (6U gang):

I've basically figured out the included functions from the stock QMK firmware from Wilba and I'm porting some of the fancier implementations from the RGB software over into the mono_backlight software.  I got the capslock indicator and layer indicators to work, and I believe I can get the software for the 2D array effects ported over as well.  If anyone is interested in this firmware when it's done, let me know.  I have basic control over all the LED's on the board (turn them on/off and implement patterns) but one thing I haven't figured out yet is keyreactive lighting (other than the caps & layer indicators which were basically done for me).  If anyone here is a QMK or C expert and wants to help, LMK.

E-White is never pure white. It is a process of coating aluminum. E-White is electrophoresis coating. This will always be slightly off white, and was represented in the product photos.

This, and to add on e-white is also prone to yellowing and is quite a bit easier to remove than anodizing.

do you have a photo of yours for reference? I was under the imoression it was a cooler white based off of photos I've seen. Closer to..say... ramas white finish on their products. As someone who's had a handful of "ewhite" boards (koyu, doro67, tmov2, bear65) I can say I've definitely been disappointed in some white finishes lol I started buying black boards since they were more consistent..

Does anyone know why my eWhite 7V isn't very white and more like a off white cream color?

there are at least 3 different "e-white" versions of this board. mine is a cream color too. someone i know has one that's actually white. i'll try to take pictures of our boards side by side if i can. i think these were colored/painted/whatever by multiple vendors due to the sheer volume and that resulted in different colors. while i wish my board was actually white like my other e white boards, i'm still happy with mine

Unfortunately not how these types of things work. You'll have to hope that gok runs the design again in the future in another group buy. Not sure if he's stated that this will happen one way or another.

It was the 7bit one in 2012. Not that long ago but I love my board, incredible.

Any restock of these babies ? I loved the key clicks.
Anyone is selling theirs.

Just a heads up that someone is currently offering a hotswap PCB group buy for the 7V.  I figured a lot of owners would be interested.

Holy **** thanks for posting this! The price is a bit steep, but I think I might bite. I still have an extra PCB that I would not know what to do with.

Heyo, i just got a 7v, since i plan to use it plateless i was wondering if it's true that it might stress the pcb to the point of breaking something over time, any1 using it plateless had problems with the pcb on the long run?

PCBs are very strong, and anyone who says that using a board without a plate will break the PCB down the road is incorrect. You'll be fine.

Anyone know what size the feet are on this? I want to replace mine with some clear ones instead of black. I am guessing 3M makes some?

Also, the black ones it came with keep coming off on mine. I wish they stuck a bit stronger but don't want to glue them down.
