I drive a 92 Mazda Miata. For those that haven't driven one, it has one of the best shifting manual transmissions ever built. Hm.
I decided to look up the designation, because I needed to tell someone that they were wrong about what transmission was in their car (a 95 Miata...)
Anyway, there's two designations... one of them is Type II - because it was apparently their second RWD transmission design. OK.
But that's not the reason I'm posting this thread.
The reason I'm posting this thread is... the other designation... is Model M.

No wonder it shifts so nicely.
