[NOS] Chicony KB-5191 (fake white mx, broken esc key)

This 'board is cool BECAUSE:
- fake white MX switches, while presumable Chicony-made (read: rickety/flimsy/chintzy), actually feel GREAT. Like MX Blues but way more tactilitity, great *snap* to them.
- fake white MX switches are 100% backwards-compatible with genuine Cherry MX (+the PCB mounting pins are identical :D ). You can mix and match springs and sliders.. - Personally, I'd like to throw the fake MX springs into a genuine cherry Blue, for a slightly firmer switch. Clears would be another great candidate as Clears are even stiffer than blacks and, IMO, could be a lil lighter. But that's just me.
I'd experiment myself but, because I wasted my summer this year, I won't have any time for projects until next summer :(

Cherry Corp Keycaps
104 key ANSI set
Black
doubleshot, obviously
pulled from G81 POS boards... Don't remember the exact model though.
The numpads are shiny, but the alpha sections are in good shape

last 2 pics show how the set doesn't QUITE fit a g80-3000. For some damn reason the bottom row on the alpha section of the donor are a little offset... I swear sometimes those Germans are just trolling us keyboard nerds.

You mean $50 shipped for each of the two Wyse keyboards right?
Or is it $50 for both keyboards?

I read the post again and it seems 50 shipped for both. (because one is heavily used and may be good for spare..)

Does it have thick caps? I heard Wyse boards come out with thin or thick caps.

good question. I just checked, and neither of my remaining WY60 keyboards feature the "super thick" Wyse caps.
i'd call them medium thickness. They appear to be ?Signature Plastics? doubleshots, just like most/all Wyse MX boards.. basically, they're thicker than today's caps, but thinner than the ultra-beefy caps found in some vintage Wyse 'boards.

On the underside of the keycap, does it look like there are 2 keycaps smushed together?  Or does it look like a single thin keycap with the blue mold only at the top?

the latter... just a regular doubleshot  :(
... and when you describe 2 keycaps smushed together, you're talking about the THICK Wyse caps, right? Cause that's a pretty accurate description.

pic attached for reference. My digicam is from 2005 ..and as expected from any 3.2MP camera, it doesn't take macros very well.

RE: Chicony w/ White Cherry Clones ESC key

IIRC I mussed up the delicate little metal leaf spring w/ the contact on the end. It's probably fixable.
The key MIGHT work, but with no click. It's all boxed up, so don't hold me to that.

I'm guessing that the "accepting offers" on item #1 means that it's something fairly pricy? The hall-effect switches interest me, but I have no knowledge about vintage keyboards so I wouldn't even know where to begin on an offer or if it's even in my price range. Also, is there an easy way to convert the connection to PS2 or USB? If not how do people generally make use of these vintage keyboards?

I have no idea how much it's worth because I've never seen one before. Sorry.

RE: vintage to USB, I've never done anything like that, but I tink you...
1. solder a Teensy USB controller and a DIN plug or w/e
2. then plug the USB doodad into your computer
3. download a pre-made configuration file, assuming your vintage project speaks a common keyboard language.
4. rock and roll

I have a Televideo 950 terminal... I believe the keyboards were the same.
Do you happen to know if the 925 kybd works on the 950?

(Tried sending you a PM, but it doesn't seem to work.)

Which, the TS-802H? I doubt it – those are the same as BBC Micro Type 1 switches: they're almost the same dimensions as U mount (Cherry) but not quite. Never seen anything else before with those switches in. No idea who made them.
