My custom keychains
« on: Thu, 07 March 2013, 20:54:35 »
I wanted a mechanical switch keychain but I didn't really like the design of the current ones out there so I made some myself.

Tell me what you guys think!

The whole album can be viewed here

and a video here.

Wow, looks really simple and clean. Only downside is having to be glued in :\ Can I have one? :D I love it!

I might start collecting keychains!!!

Thanks for the comments :D
unfortunately I only made enough for a few friends of mine. If there were a large enough appeal for them I could make some more to sell, but currently these are all claimed.

I took dimensions with a set of calipers, then I sketched up a quick model in cad of the key switch, and then what I wanted in the keychain. Afterwards I decided I wanted to make them out of some white acrylic I had. I then sliced up the keychain model into 1/8" slices in the model and sent the sketch to my university laser cutter. The thickness of the acrylic prevented me in making it snap into place so they had to be glued. The pieces of acrylic were solvent welded together after they were cut and holes were drilled by hand for the chain. I also explain all of this in the video as well.

Thanks for the interest!
