55g HHKB = Best choice
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question but don't you have to mod one to have 55g keys  or can you actually buy those off the shelf?

Mod, but it is worth the price. You have enough domes for an HHKB and 23U. Then you can sell the 45g swapped board, I just sold my swapped board.
Joey- How much did you get for your swapped Rf 87u if you don't mind me asking?
$200 shipped priority.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Just picked up a RF 87UW55 from ebay. I've got an RF EK edition and a Novatouch, but I keep hearing about how amazeballs 55g is, so I had to find out for myself.

My rf 87u 55 gets here on Saturday... I'm super excited I had a novatouch and I actually liked the feel of the 45g , they felt a little light but good my problem was the keys with stabs squeaked and were fairly loud. I'm kind of regretting returning it however because the MX stems were an awesome feature. I know there are a couple ways to silence a novatouch however they involve ironing flat landing pads and taking apart the switches. So maybe in the future when I have a little more experience. I'm really excited to feel the 55g switches though saturday can't come soon enough that :thumb:
Looking for Black KMAC 2 or KMAC LE Preferably unbuilt kit but will consider an assembled board with clears Please PM me if you can help 8) Always on the lookout for KBK/KWK Bro Reapers,V2s and Clack factory skulls have lots of caps for trade

I received my NovaTouch today and i'm very pleased with it until now.
Only tried a Leopold FC660C before and i would have loved a 55g Realforce, but sadly it's only available with 45g in German-ISO.
And i got the NovaTouch used (but only 3h) for a fairly good price, so i bought it.

I will definitly silence it with the guide from SpiceBar and lube the stabs with the blue EK lube as the upstroke is louder then the switch itself, which is kind of annoying, but after the mod i think it will be very nice.

I really want to try a 55g Realforce though. I think the 45g domes are kind of heavy to me, from the feeling heavier then a Model M, and i really want to know how the 55g feels in comparison.
The tactile feedback from the dome feels also very pronounced on the NovaTouch.

AEKII M3501 with a function row cap missing/broken.  That's more than okay since I'm just getting it to cannibalize for the 60% Alps PCB Hasu is cooking up.

Just did the same but with a Silicon Graphics board, looking forward to that GB because I've already got a poker case so I'll just need to get a plate and some switches and I'll be good to go.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

It's just a plain 6ft black cable which I'm going to strip on the mini side, sleeve with MDPC-X sleeving (aquamarine or grey??), and then solder onto the Leeku PCB :D

For once I actually have a vague idea of some stuff I have in the mail!

  • KRAP keycap
  • Toxic set
  • (cough) another SSK (cough)
  • small assortment of Model M keycaps
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
