A great beautiful balky beige beast has deigned to grace my presence, and my mailbox apparently is being devoured by Keythulhu, so now I'm just waiting for my Brocap and of course the Triumph Adler drop to finish and take all my money. :p

This thing is love. It's louder than all hell, weighs a billion tons, and feels like my hands are having sex. The only issue is that the USB cord got bent pretty bad in shipping, but it doesn't seem to affect anything, and the spacebar is uneven and not stabilized as well on the left side, so I either have to hit it hard or use it right-handed. XD

I'm believing the Model F hype right now, even with the spacebar thing. It is so... Deeply satisfying. XD <3 <3 <3

It is a 1395162. Same footprint as a regular 1391401.  Pretty cool.

A double-size numpad + on a terminal board?

Odd.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

ICS Chicago is holdimg my Outbreak Caps hostage.

I'm wondering if this happened to my last package from sir bunz.

It's amazing how packages make it from the UK to US in a few days only to sit in Chicago from a week to forever.

Typically mine arrive at the ICS multiple times before they get processed, not sure how that works exactly.

Yes it is and if you can get one from A1 I would recommend Rowdy.  Not too much has to be done.  Just swap internals from it to the other or vice versa and you have 2 working full-sized boards.  Then you have a bolt-mod project for the future!  *smile*

I'm believing the Model F hype right now, even with the spacebar thing. It is so... Deeply satisfying. XD <3 <3 <3

Nice keyboard!  If I were to take the plunge into any Model F keyboard, it would be a 107 ANSI.  That thing is enormous.  I'd have to get a larger desk for that one!  Maybe some day.  My keyboard binge is about over right now.  More important things coming up.

Mine's not ANSI converted but it's not turning out to make much difference. I have the ISO-sized left shift and <> both mapped to LShift, so hitting either works, and |\ and PD 3 mapped to enter, though I mostly end up hitting |\. XD Numpad is the same thing with the two keys where the 2x keys are on a normal number pad.

And yeah, it is huge. My mouse doesn't even fit on my keyboard tray(Though, it doesn't really have enough room with my Code there either, so...)

Speaking of in the mail, I just ordered F and J homing bump keys and a light blue WASD set from Unicomp. I don't really need a WASD set nor do I particularly plan to do extensive gaming on a keyboard even heavier than my Clears, but I needed something to fill out the $10 minimum. I don't home row type but I do use F and J bumps when I get lost while floating and need to reorient.

No problem! I hope you enjoy your SSK. I'm jealous of your shipping price, mine cost me $40 to have it shipped from Cindy to me.  :blank:

I also have 100 Gateron blacks and 100 clears on the way from the Gateron GB. I haven't decided what I'm going to use them for yet, but I had to get in on that GB, they were so cheap!

I got 300 GON 62g springs in the mail a couple weeks ago, but I think I want something lighter still. I'm interested in trying out 50g Korean springs.

So you felt the 62g springs were to heavy. Dammit I was afraid of that I've been looking for something to mod my MX clears with that's lighter than the stock springs but heavier than browns! Maybe 55g or 58.5g springs, also how long was shipping from gons site for your springs ? Anyways yaaa man I'm really excited you really made my night as I had been looking for an SSK to no avail this is going to  be AMAZING. So where do you find BS key caps. I found some from UNICOMP but I'm unsure to the thickness and material used in the caps. Also my IKBC silver aluminum low pro case comes in today I really had wanted to re-spring the clears in my poker before transferring but I am now afraid the 62g ones I ordered will be to heavy. Anyways good mail day today for me and lots of goodies on the way!

I made some solid progress purchasing lots of things for my 100% custom 60% keyboard I am making! I have some gold stabilizers and springs coming, aswell as a 10ft tinned copper double sleeved coiled cable from pexon (damn thats a big title!), aswell as 3 camo gasmasks from a user on here. Next week my PCB+plate, switch stickers and LEDs should arrive, and a few weeks later my 200 gateron clear and 100 gateron black switches should arrive. Alot of things and I hope to have a build log on my keyboard when I get all the parts!

It is yeah, the PCB comes with RGB lighting which is pretty cool, I am going with a very clean white/transparent theme with a little bit of pink maybe? I have pink and white POM caps from feng which came a month ago which I will try and use, i need to order some rubbing/isopropyl alcohol to clean the PCB too just thinking about it... I want it to be perfect!

SSK from Cindy is out for delivery today!

I can't wait, this is my dream board.
Thanks again for going out of your way to lead me to the SSK and phosphor's site Meow<3I'm really excited its not quite in the mail but will be very soon!

Forgot to mention also have 120 Gateron Blacks and 120 clears and some 62g springs for the clears

(Attachment Link)

Oh, don't worry 62g is perfect for ergo clears. Anything lighter sometimes gets stuck on the tactile bump of the clear stem. 62g is also what you're looking for, I believe brown springs come in at 60g on the Korean scale. Your Poker will feel great with 62g ergo clears, I really like them. My next MX board is going to be 62g ergo clears (or maybe 62g Gateron clears?), which is why I have the 62g GON springs.

I just enjoy really light linears, I found I really liked them when I swapped the black springs out of my Phantom for 55g Sprit springs. It feels like typing on a cloud with the light springs + lube. I find I don't make any more mistakes than I did with heavy springs either.

I actually didn't order them from GON, his shipping is really expensive. He only ships express international or something, so it needs to be a big order to be worth it. I bought them from a user on the classifieds. Aside from shipping though, they're a really good deal. 300 springs for $15.

Unicomp is really the only place to buy IBM caps. Their RGB sets are really nice! Some people have hit and miss experiences with them though. I have a Unicomp WASD set, RGB set, and a couple custom colour printed keycaps (dark blue num lock and Geekhack). The WASD set, RGB, and num lock are all nice quality, but they kinda dyesubbed the printing on the GH key a little crooked. It's not that bad though.

Their quality is pretty good, it's still dyesub PBT and I believe it's exactly the same thickness. They bought IBM's original manufacturing equipment, so it's as close to original as you can get. The only complaints I've heard have to do with the legends, and sometimes flashing, but their customer support is really helpful. If you plan on restoring your SSK yourself, you will likely need to go through them for something or another. They sell almost all of the spare parts for IBM's. I think they even have SSK barrel plates for sale.

Boards:
Silver 84-key KMAC LE, 62g lubed & stickered ergo-clears, GON NerD PCB, polycarbonate plate,MX lock/Phosphorglow IBM Model M SSK 1391472/White HHKB Pro 2, Hasu controller/WKL Phantom, 50g vintage blacks, MX lock
Leeku G80-1800 (build in progress)

When they were originally sold they were as a kit (they're a custom after all). I'd like to write a nice review once I'm comfortable enough with it.

I just won an SSK on Ebay. I got it for a song, too, since it was mis-labeled as a regular Model M.

I'm psyched!!!

Congrats :)

Is yours ready for use, or will it need cleaning and/or bolt mod first?

No problem! I hope you enjoy your SSK. I'm jealous of your shipping price, mine cost me $40 to have it shipped from Cindy to me.  :blank:

My SSK is still in the mail, but very close.  I can almost hear those springs buckling!

And mind cost somewhat more than that to ship to Australia

We'll see. It says "good condition" and "tested and working" so that's a good sign. But I plan to fully clean and bolt mod both the SSK and my current Model M as well as some other customizations I'm considering. So as long as the electronics aren't fried I'm OK with it.

Tell me about it!  Prices are almost always cheaper overseas, but the shipping cost is much higher.  Still, the total price often turns out slightly less then buying it (whatever it is) locally.

Plus there are so many things you can't get out here, so buying internationally is the only option.
