My time to shine~

What could it be? ;)

Anyone who had seen Linus' trip into Cherry factory will know that one.
Terminal M and others for the comparison purposes.

And guess what, I got the original box!
Sticker says it's G80-0081, and that means I'm going to have to take a lot of pictures for wiki..
Already made a thread on DT

The little cherry at the bottom was also in the mail recently, if anyone has an idea what it is, that would be great. Sticker isn't really helpful.

Do you have plans on opening it up and exploring the inside?? This is super interesting.

holy f..... i mean holy moly!
beast of beasts? i have never seen anything like it.

how do the keys/switches feel, out of curiosity?
can't wait for more pictures and info, wow!
Switches are quite awesome in feel, linear (M7) and in very good shape. And the keycaps are just too friggin' nice. Both in looks and in touch  :D
I think I'll get myself a set of good sphericals one day, they feel so much better than ABS on my TK..
Some pictures are here, for more decent ones we all will have to wait a couple of days even.. and a photoshoot down the line is even a bigger problem due to lack of tools, but I'll think of something

Why, of course. This community and this board deserves it. I already asked niubio to help with the photoshoot. :D

Dremel 8200, Dremel Drill Press, Rit Dyemore Graphite, UV Wash Fluorescent Lamp (for restoring old keyboards, yo), Kapton Tape, Solder Paste, 540 2x5x7mm LEDs broken down to 60 LEDs in 9 different colors, Leandre's Carbon Fiber Universal Plate, Duck Eagle PCB, Carbon Fiber cable sleeve, Sky Blue Gon Feet, 6.25u + 2u x 4 gold stab wires.

Getting hyped for my carbon fiber hotswappable (Alps only) eagle build. Think I'll call it the "Hayabusa" because I'm the most original.

Also have a CTRL ALT 60 coming in as the first board I'll be handling an assembly service for. Very hyped for that and happy to have the honor of assembling such a nice board. :)

It did!
Although looking at the packaging I can understand how some got damaged. They were basically packaged in rolled up cardboard on the corner of the box

As for me, I just dropped another $100 bombshell purely on gold-plated PCB receptacles. I have two Duck Eagle PCBs on the way, and each one is going to be fitted with these in order to have hotswappable, backlit able Alps. Also have two of LeandreN's Carbon Fiber plates on the way specifically for this build.

I already spent $65 on some tin-plated receptacles for the first Eagle PCB, but since this second PCB is going to be untouched, pristine, with no desoldering, I really wanted something special, hence the gold. Wow, E3E. Could you be any more vain? I just realized how much more expensive this costs than SIP sockets. It's ridiculous. More than 10x the price to do a 60% board.

I really need to stawp. Next, I'm looking at an SGI key pad with 34 windowed 1u Alps caps for this backlit Alps build to really shine.

I'm not sure if I can get the ingredients readily in my country, but yep, I'll surely do it if I can. My AEK's in need of a cleaning too, it's super yellow. Lots of stuff you've got on the way there btw

It kills me that the tiny things, the PCB receptacles for hotswapping are SO expensive. It almost makes me feel like I'm wasting money because I could be buying other boards or something, but the hotswapping will be worth it with the Alps switches I have laying around.

My wallet isn't happy, but this is all for one last big build before I take a well-needed break from all of this.  :-\

Sounds good by the way! That IBM definitely blows away every Alps board I've seen so far. You've got the weight of the once mighty IBM brand, the cool history of IBM Japan, green Alps, and those lovely HiPro style spherical caps.

It's so nice, man. :thumb:

I have Zorbcaps and Bingecaps in the mail! Can't help but refresh those threads often to see if there are any updates with shipping.

In other news, I have a heat fan from Costco that should have been here last week. UPS doesn't have access into my apartment complex so they've been leaving delivery notes. They left a note on the back door so I signed it for them to leave my package outside. Yet the next day they check the front door for the note and fail to drop it off. SO FRUSTRATING. Now I need to drive to pick it up ugh...

No DSA set can compare with a GMK one, even less to an OG Cherry. So, your upcoming HF will deserve any of your keyboards over anything SP made.

My Tai Hao Dolch is in the post! :D
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
