Topre PBT spacebars are finally en route. Interested to see how they turned out, considering some of the reviews I've been hearing. However, I don't have any round 1 spacebars to compare.

Matt3o seems to say that the criticisms against the new round are overblown, and that the warping is something that's easily fixed with a hair dryer (which is true). I've also seen someone else say the texture IS the same as the first.

It's anyone's guess
Received both of my Topre spacebars sets and both sets have none of the issues that have been brought up by other buyers. Perhaps I got lucky with my shipment but no complaints here. While they aren't perfect, they are acceptable and color/texture is extremely similar to my stock ABS HHKB spacebar.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk

Do you have any of the round1 spacebars to compare? Regardless, it's good to hear that many people are happy with the round2 caps.

Here are some quotes that might help give more insight:

adhoc wrote:
matt3o, what does "refined texture much closer to the original" mean? Does it mean it's much smoother like ABS? Because if it's not PBT grainy I don't really want them tbh.
it's still slightly rougher than the original ABS, but smoother than the previous batch (we are talking about the top surface).

Quote
I requested some samples from MD and I got them today. The texture is fine, comparable to other PBT spacebars and by no means "smooth". The texture was slightly too rough in the first batch and it captured dirt and grease.

The samples I've got are indeed slightly warped, honestly not to the point of "we are all gonna die" but surely worse than the first batch. 2 minutes under an hairdrier would actually fix them.

Honestly I don't know why the second batch is more warped than the first, but I stopped asking questions when MD is involved long time ago. What I can tell you is that MD is investigating the situation with the manufacturer.

Check this page of the thread: https://deskthority.net/photos-f62/new-colors-for-topre-pbt-spacebars-t14436-30.html?hilit=space%20bar

It should give you some good insight and opinions.

A floor mat to protect my new carpet from my desk chair.

You skinny lightweights will probably get many years out of one.

I am a big boy and weigh 255 pounds / 100 kilos / 16 stone - and even the "good ones" only last me about 3-4 years at best (my chair has 5 good-sized cylindrical wheels).

About 20 years ago, in the US, the "premium" level ones started carrying a lifetime warranty, but about 10 years ago they stopped making the claim and even reneged on the ones already sold. "We will replace it this time, but no more" as they realized that it was prohibitive to manufacture a truly long-lasting example.

"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Should look into putting roller-blade wheels on the chair, saves your carpet that's for sure.
