My Type Heaven is arriving Tuesday. Finally, I won't have to feel bad about using my Pro1. No, I don't have any problem with TH caps. (I got to try one in store, but they were $170ish with tax so I ordered on amazon as I had $25 in gift card credit.)

No type heaven. I decided it's about time I gave Unicomp money.... and got a Ultra Classic Black Buckling Spring USB

which makes me laugh as i've been debating the Type Heaven for months..... finally ordered.... less than an hour? later I cancel it for a Unicomp and am so much more excited :D

Also ordered from Unicomp: PANIC Key in red and Tux key set (so, lol, I used what I saved at amazon)

SSK?
The 87-key version.

I guess it is a space-saving keyboard, but that name is usually reserved for IBM buckling spring boards as that's the name IBM adopted for that model.

Hehe, less than 24 hours after I post that I get a new Unicomp 104 key, the other 8 on Prime all sold out. So I guess they do okay enough business for that to be Amazon orders only.

After this, a Unicomp dual ps2 with built in trackpoint.

In 2 days I will have my Tux Cap Set, Geek Hack single key and red Panic button from them too. I also might get the Geek Hack shift keys

...and I'll follow up my post with another Uni order: Classic 104 Black PS2, green printed ANSI Color Key Set, Geek Hack Single Unit Key (black w/ diamond on grey), large spacebar to convert it to a 103 key.  ;D

And then my plastic keycap puller finally broke so I was gonna grab one from amazon and then noticed 50 cents less than the WASD puller is one that comes with a bunch of modifier keys. They look cheap but they'd fit on the Advantage which will be nice.

Topres are fine boards, but I think you made the right choice, and will be the happiest. Buckling springs are timeless technology. And Unicomp is courageous, and deserves our support, for keeping such a great thing going here in the 21st century.

You would be correct to think that sir, so much i bought a second. (A classic, not an ultra classic, the marking for the Endurapro bugs me but not enough to not use it over)

I like ultra heavy keys because when I type quickly and tend to slide my hands across the keys the actuation force on the buckling springs is enough to keep me from throwing typos everywhere. This made typing on MX Reds for me look like I was always drunk.

You would be correct to think that sir, so much i bought a second. (A classic, not an ultra classic...)

Awesome—now you can use the M's famous "shelf" area for your pens and pencils:

[Writing instruments simulated]

You may also find Unicomp's full-size Classic feels a bit more solid than their pared-down Ultra Classic, just because it's that much bigger and heavier. They're both quite enjoyable, though.

I like ultra heavy keys because when I type quickly and tend to slide my hands across the keys the actuation force on the buckling springs is enough to keep me from throwing typos everywhere. This made typing on MX Reds for me look like I was always drunk.

Yep, MX Reds are pretty light. When you're used to real mechanical boards, Reds feel like there's almost nothing's there.  :?)

Speaking of buckling springs, here's what just went into the mail for me:

161093-1

51G8572 was one of three Model M p/n's made for the IBM RS/6000 system. For this reason, they included a real speaker for system "beep" codes.

Speaker in grille

Ctrl/Act key

I got these IBM and Lexmark examples, made almost exactly one year apart, from the same seller for a mere $29 each, plus modest postage. Deal!

People must see these online, notice the p/n starts with "5", and assume they're from Lexmark's later, cheaper 5xxxxxx series (thin attached cables, lighter cases and plates, scaled-down controllers)—so they don't bother bidding on them.

But no, these are solid, 2nd-generation M's. And because they're often overlooked, they can be a great value.

It's not like they couldn't understand our obssession, if they were just willing to try...

I've also found it helps to have only one or two boards out at any given time, and keep the rest well hidden behind other, more boring- and cheap-looking computer stuff. Oh, and keep the number of a good divorce attorney on hand, just in case.

Always wondered about that! You often see them on Esc, though, and everyone hits that regularly. Maybe just the flat ones there, then, like the little monster faces, etc.? And yet, would you want to be pressing even a flat artisan you paid hundreds of bucks for? Clearly, it's very complicated.
