[IC] METEOR by EVE, a 75% custom keyboard (Coming soon!)
« on: Mon, 25 December 2017, 09:36:35 »
Sorry for lack of updates on this project, the PCB took so many time to finish but here we are  :thumb:

The Chinese GB has been fulfilled, and we should expect an International GB very soon. ;)

Hi, ScrambledEggz here.

On behalf of zFrontier and EVE, I present you METEOR.

METEOR is the latest design by EVE, the team that brought you MIRA SE and the MOON.

This GB has been run in China via zFrontier and 100 sets were sold within a very short period of time. And we are planning to bring this beauty to you.

Design:
Meteor is a board with a 60% + F row design. The case is a 3-pcs design with a top case, middle frame and a bottom case. This board will also be using a new pcb by EVE with driver support.

Prototypes (New samples INCOMING! will update soon):
185127-0185129-1
185133-2

Parts:

Top case (60% + F row or HHKB + F row)
Middle frame
Aluminum plate (multiple layout support)
Bottom case
Weight (Aluminum, could upgrade to BRASS)
PCB
Custom keyboard bag
Accessories (M3 304 stainless steel screws, 3M plastic feet)

PCB Features:

EVE & EQUALZ Driver support
Left sided Mini USB
Multiple backlighting effects
Multiple layout support (arrow cluster layouts supported!)
185158-3

Color Options:
***Some samples have unprocessed brass weight installed, the brass weights in the final products will have a brushed finish.

Is the black exterior and gold interior an option? you have it in the prototype picture.

This is the Kikyounezu, the warm ambient light made the interior seemed gold.

No arrow keys?

No dedicated arrow cluster, but the 60% area does support layouts with arrow keys. I will upload the layout support in OP :thumb:

This has to be the best layout along with the 1800. Looks great.

There are a few on the zF posts.

in some Mira update pics you can see the protos from the side, but in the background.

BTW, any chance we could have samples of the brushed brass weight before this goes to GB?

Being a ZFrontier Group buy makes this an automatic yes for me. Great company, quick responses to e-mails and more. 100% confidence in these guys.

Is it possible to choose solid colors? Like all grey, all red, etc?

Any chance we’d have the option to purchase extra plates and PCB’s? Coated brass switch plates?

Edit: Just had to say, that Navy/ Blue-Grey looks AMAZING!

No dedicated arrow cluster, but the 60% area does support layouts with arrow keys. I will upload the layout support in OP :thumb:

Forgive the likely newb question, but what difference does it make NOT having a dedicated arrow cluster, yet the layout still supports it? Any drawbacks/advantages? Thanks.

I suspect the comparison is to traditional 75% boards. Realistically this is more 70% since it drops the row on the right.

On a standard 75%, there is 1 more row which gives room for a dedicated arrow cluster while maintaining relatively normal layouts.

This board doesn't have that extra row, so you would instead have to use a 60% arrow layout and do some more unusual things (such as ?/ to the right of shift and up). Still dedicated arrows though.

I think his wording is just confusing.

Sorry for the confusion.

By saying dedicated arrow cluster, I mean that this board does not have an default or stand-alone area for arrow keys like a 65%, 75%(84), or even 80% do.

However, Meteor does support arrow cluster by altering from a normal 60% layout  :thumb:

Here is the solution:

a. keep the 2.25u left shift and move the ?/ to far right

a. is shown in the render below :thumb:

Looks really good, Was never into the 75% layout, but this looks a bit better to me. It might just be how the F-row looks, but the board itself certainly catches the eye. Any chance of having a bit more options for colors or are the colorways locked down to what the original sets are?
