[IC] UD_70 (75% keyboard) - Sample in production
« on: Thu, 21 February 2019, 20:25:46 »
27 May 2019

Sample production of ud70 is completed in this week.

I am very sorry that I have not made any updates for a long time.
I am very busy with my preparation for the baby to be born, and my baby is growing well and healthy. This is the greatest blessing God has given me.

And the UD70 sample production will be completed this week.

May is a very meaningful month for me. My child was born and samples of the UD70 were made.

=================================================================

01 May 2019

Hello guys, I am sorry that it took so long but here we have some updates!
UD_70's sample production was a bit delayed than originally planned, but the drawings have now been submitted to the factory and the sample production is currently in progress. We expect the sample production to be completed within May, and if nothing is wrong with the prototype and everything goes smooth we could put the GB timeline at about June.  I will come back with an update when the prototype is out. Thank you.

=================================================================

26 March 2019

I'm sorry I have not had any updates in the meantime.
UD_40 GB in progress in Korea will be finished this week.

I can now focus on the UD_70 project.

As mentioned earlier, April is getting closer. Sample production is still in progress and there is still a lot of time left until the summer.

Everyone needs support. Cheer me up

thank you.

Hi, I am goldworms, who recently started an IC thread for 40% keyboard UD_40.
UD_40 is in the IC state in geekhack, but GB has already begun in Korea.
Thus I would like to introduce you to my next project.

It is a 75% board, and the name is UD_70.
UD_70 supports two layouts, Winkeyless and Winkey.
Minimal winkeyless or easy-to-use winkey, the choice is yours.

Sample is in production at the moment and scheduled to finish by the end of March.
For now it's just the render images but I should be able to provide you with the real pictures by April.

Hope it becomes April soon so that I can show you guys how it looks like irl.
You can check out more details on my discord channel and feel free to ask questions, I'll get back to you asap.
Thank you.

Do you want a full alu version? I am making polycarbonate on the bottom to maximize the light effect.
I can make a full alu keyboard at any time.
The design has already been completed and I am processing the sample now, so wait for the big update in April.

I think it would be interesting to see! I love the way the PC looks but I'm also interesting in seeing how a full alu version would look! It also depends on how much interest there is for a full alu version :) if there's enough interest it might be worth it!

I like very much this layout, the only thing that I would modify is the spacing of the Function keys: the right side of F12 should be aligned to the right of the backspace... The only reason to buy this keyboard over similar layouts is the use of standard function keys, so they should respect a consolidated and universal spacing that allows you to press them without actually looking. I find the WKL version particularly pleasing and balanced. Really a nice keyboard  :thumb:

I must say I'm a little confused as to why this is called a 70%, when this looks to be about the same layout as any other 75% board, other than a WKL option. Personally when I think of a 70%, I picture a 60% with an F-Row, which there aren't enough of in my personal opinion. All the same, It looks really nice!

I learned from your article that the name 70% may be confusing. Exactly ud_70 has a 75% layout.
To correct the confusion, I will modify it to 75% layout keyboard.
Thanks.

What's the typing angle, and is there an approximate price estimate?

I really like the idea of the polycarbonate bottom. It will be interesting to see if it affects the sound much.

I probably won't be in for this because 75% is too big for me to use regularly, but I'd love to see a 60% or smaller in this design. Edit: looks like the UD-40 has the same case design. Nice!

Thanks for bringing this to IC. I'm glad to see more 75% boards coming thorough. A few suggestions:
- side bezels feels rather thin. Adding a little width might make this look more balanced.
- spot LED feels sparse. Perhaps add more LEDs and/or diffuser to create a contiguous illumination effect?
- the wavy look of the side casing feels mismatched with the overall angular design is the keyboard. Not sure what can be done done there, but it should better match the overall design.

So far so good, hopefully you can make additional adjustment tweaks. Looking forward to how this evolves before GB launch!

Yeah, a bottom row with no blockers so you can do 1.5, 1, 1.5, 7, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1 bottom row would be sick.

Agree. I think CNC Alu is the best case material for a board, but I do like tasteful underglow and it seems like this may have it. Even a partial Alu would work for me. I have the alu Kira and it’s really nice just having the lighting underneath it.

What’s the big deal with WKL boards? Genuinely curious, wondering what the benefits are of WKL or if it’s purely aesthetic

This looks sick!

Estimate on price? I think I may be in regardless. It’s such a unique look!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We are now working on the first sample. It will be completed by the end of March, and I will be able to release the real thing, not the renderer.
I will update the approximate price information after the sample work.
Please wait a little longer until April.
Thanks.

The plan of Ratrap is still valid. However, some problems were found during sample production.
I am trying to fix the problem.

Thank you for remembering Ratrap.

This board has great symmetry. Too many boards try and cram so much in that balanced looks like this are difficult. Hope it remains close to the original idea as possible.

Do you want a full alu version? I am making polycarbonate on the bottom to maximize the light effect.
I can make a full alu keyboard at any time.
The design has already been completed and I am processing the sample now, so wait for the big update in April.

Full Alu + PC Half Plate possible?
I'l still in anyways.
The top row really helps with my OCD. :p :p :p

Okay. I will make a full aluminum case for the second sample production.
However, the PC Plate option is not yet definite.

There is still plenty of time for summer to come.
Please wait.

I’m the exact opposite. I love thin side bezels. I feel the whole point of a compact layout is to save desk size and space. I look at boards like the grid600 and think, that’s almost as big as a TKL without the functionality. If I’m giving up functionality, a decreased footprint better follow. Although I’m not so much concerned about top and bottom bezels as most have plenty of desk space in that direction.

Top and bottom bezels could be reduced to match the side ones if conserving space is a concern, and it would still look symmetrical:

For me, the thin bezel is the selling point of this board; this board looks unique because of that, and its a clean design; even bezels would take away from the distinction, and make it similar to any ordinary board. The picture above (in my opinion) takes away all the appeal for me - making it look like an average board.

Reducing the top and bottom bezel can cause problems during processing.
A bezel of appropriate thickness is required to use the mating M3 screw.

1. Beautiful design.
2. Can the bottom PC be frosted/opaque, so the LEDs are nicely diffused? Perhaps move the LEDs away from the edges?
3. Programmable I assume?
4. Hotswap hopefully?
5. Estimated price?

I really like this board, I do have a few thoughts though.

1) Different plate options so those who want fixed plate options
2) Tighter connector hole
3) What is the connector btw? I may have missed it but I didn't see anywhere (hopefully USB C)

Also, I love the slim sides, it gives it a really unique and sleek look imo. Making the bezels the same size would be a mistake imo.

I really like the design. Certainly considering this in polycarbonate if the price is right.

1. Do you plan to keep this MX only, or would you be willing to go down the road of alps compatibility?
2. Can you comment on the mounting type? from the renders it looks like sandwich, I just want to be sure.
3. What do you plan on offering for plate material?

Are just these 3 color options still the plan right now?  Or might we potentially see more when the time comes?

In my opinion thicker side bezels for even more balance and frosted poly on the bottom would make it look even better.
