Kinda want, kinda don't know what it's for ;)
I had a had time deciding between the space gray and silver. Both look great, nice work. Now I just gotta figure out what I'm going to use this for... :))
yeeeeeYeeeeeee swimmingbird
Kinda want, kinda can't afford :'(

I'd use it for meme macros
Make more sense with 6 key?
My brain hurt for thinking about what todo with it.
I like your design aesthetic. Really nice, but curves man... Hate them curves, I'm a sharp kinda guy I guess. Good luck regardless!
Daaaamn, I just ordered a 3D printed case for the uhhkb PCB :(
Ordered. I need this now.

Thanks heaps man! I'm a sharp kinda guy too, just wanted to try out something different :D Cheers mate :)
ALSO, UPDATE:
Having the PCB's redesigned to use a more powerful micro-controller. This will make it waaaay easier to program and it will also be able to use the software that was designed for the M10! YEE.
Looking forward to this

When can we buy the M10?
Quick question: are the switches plate mount or are they PCB mount? Thanks! :thumb:From the picture, PCB mount.

Incase anyone is debating colours, that Space grey is amazing! Sadly, i may have to sit this one out!
I have news to announce as soon as it's finalised, with what's happening, I may be able to get it to an even cheaper price point than anticipated! :D Unfortunately can't say anything yet, just waiting on things to fall through :(

Joey is correct! PCB mount. Works best for something of this size.

DANG IT RAMA... Such a tease...
Well I guess I will just have to buy one M4A while I wait for M10... I wish the case was more angular like the other commenter said, but I guess this kinda works too! When are you gonna make 2u Rama caps to go with these? :thumb:
Edit: Aaaaaaaand... ordered!

Cool, wasn't sure if the rendered case would actually fit around the switches or if that was just to show off the case! Thanks!
Cool concept and great design. Not sure if i would have a use for it though.
Hey Rama, can your macro program allow mouse cursor movement? In absolute and relative coordinates?

Hmmm I know for sure it has mouse control:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/JNte1aS.png)
However, I'm not sure about the absolute/relative part. I will find out for you! :)

Are there more color in next round? I want a yellow M4 :(
Aw man I'm not sure if I can get it this time around. I've been on the market for a keypad for Osu and this seems like an amazing fit!Hah yeah! It would be awesome for OSU :P No worries at all man :D

A Tough decision! Order Two or one?
BTW, I love the M10 curves, as it reminds me my old Apple M0120
I might be missing it, but is there an order count anywhere?
Are those 2u keys not stabilised? They are not.
Are those 2u keys not stabilised?
Great renderings! I wish I could join but I might for his big brother.
49 with 5 days remaining. Should we be worried? I really want to see this get produced.
Any word about aluminum 2u keys? I have your 1u space grey but 2u would make this perfect combo

:-[ 54 now, just updated the count. If I have to, I will put my own money to get a few more to make this happen :]

But this needs to happen. I needs my precious...
I'm in. How could I not be?
Rama, you realize you now need to make some swank caps to fit those two wide keys...

Cherry R3? Maybe have the 2u keys as an option for your Rama cap round 3 :thumb:

R3 Cherry wouldn't really be useful for anything other than this board, no?
And if it's not SA R3 or DSA profile Rama would have to make two molds, else the right hand vertical key would look all kinda wack :))

Sorry I meant R1, as it can be used as a backspace button as well, increasing versatility. As for the vertical 2u key, perhaps Cherry profile R1-2 (the same as the '+' numpad key)? I guess that could work!
Ooo okay, I'll look into doing a set ;)
UPDATE: The new pcb by Machine Industries is almost complete, it will come fully assembled sans switches :)
It now sports a Atmel 32U, same as the M10!

are you selling both the attiny version and the atmega23u4 version?Hey mate, Just the ATMEGA32U version - but if you specifically want the ATTINY version as well, I have a few of the PCBs left from the prototype :)
Hi. I am extremely interested in this an the other model with more switches. My concern is the software to program it. When you release, will you have instructions and software to configure the switches?Hi Oatmeal! The software, I believe, is ready to be released! And the M4 will come with instructions and software to get you started :)
When will this be ready to buy? What is the expected shipping date? Cost to ship to USA? Thank you.
Sounds like there's something exciting that is coming soon! :D
Only a day left? And only 54 orders :(Up to 63 now! :-[
I really want this to happen!Me too mate :( don't worry though, I want it to happen just as much - so I'll make it happen :)

Rama is a god :thumb:
I'll go in on another one. I can gift it, or maybe figure out a reason why I need to have one for each hand, and make this, well, 1% easier. Would the shipping on two be less than me simply making a second order, and if so, can you adjust that/invoice me/something to that effect, or is that just a hassle?
Want 1 extra too!!! PMed

How are the numbers looking Rama? If you need more last minute orders I might be able to stretch my budget a bit and get an extra one assuming I can combine shipping with my previous order? Let me know if you're desperate for more orders :)
65 at the moment :) Nawh bro don't do that, like I said it's going to happen regardless of MoQ, I'll work it out :) Save your money mate!

It will go towards getting a M10 when that becomes available anyway :p
Awesome, good to see it's going ahead despite not meeting MoQ, and having everything already soldered (Except switches) is also a plus for noobs like me. I'm going to use this as a controller for a Pi 3 music/streamer of sorts.
I'm hoping to use mine for a media control through Pi as well :thumb: can anyone tell me how to find 2u keys as beautiful as the ones in your promo material? :-* :-*
UPDATE:
Hi all! I have put the order through to the manufacturer, $400 in freight later, EEK.
I will be receiving two prototypes in the next weeks to show off :)

Awww bro :( Don't worry! I want to do a cheaper cap after this, this one is crazy expensive I realise D: Stainless Steel + Mirror polishing is a costly process, I'm actually using a watch manufacturer to get the tolerances and finishes I require :P
Trying to explore the use off different materials, I really think it's going to give a unique feeling with these. The weight, the liquidy finish, the very rounded dome that your finger will sit into. But yee, cheaper caps next!!
But yes I'm all for exploring different materials, brass and bronze are pretty decent choices, relatively machinable and weighty. Copper is nice too but rather soft. Ti 6-4 is a pretty common alloy in my line of work, would like to see one eventually in a keycap ;D
If you really really want to make it unusual, make it out of a nickel superalloy like Inco 718 or Waspaloy, but they are a ***** to machine :p, and I'd imagine the selection criteria for these alloys (mechanical strength and low creep at 1500K+) is probably not too relevant in a keycap context
I would like one but this is not a great time for me :(

I've been playing with milling 6AI4V. (Not caps, this is a different silly hobby.) It is actually easier to work with than I thought it would be - the horror stories, I guess, primed me well. I want to try a Ti keycap soon.
I really don't like copper so far - I've only tried turning it, and only twice, but it seemed to find a way to bind up if given any opportunity. The lathe I was using was not the newest, best cared-for tool on the planet, but getting copper to behave was a bit beyond me on that attempt. (I'm still very new to machining, and this is very much not my day job.)
Are there any keycap templates out there that folks know of? I found a couple at Thingiverse and somewhere else I forget, but one just seemed very wrong, and I forget what was wrong with the other, but it didn't seem like it was going to work. Or actual, canonical specs for the the various rows in different profiles?

Understandable mate, no worries at all!
Oh damn bro! You know your materials :P What do you do for a living? O_o
I've actually been meaning to do something with Titanium for a while, would definitely be cool.
Hahahah superalloy :P Mate, if I can get it machined it must happen - I want a whole top row of every main element and nice alloys there is :P Would be cool seeing polished with it's natural color for sure!
I work for a big English gas turbine manufacturer, we make jet engines :))
I'm not a materials specialist, but I know the broad strokes of what alloys we use in which section of the engine. I was just kidding about using nickel alloys for keycaps btw, probably not suitable at all for this purpose, but I think brass or Ti alloys would do nicely!
Shame I can't afford to get in on your steel cap GB at the moment, big life-related invoices I have to pay soon-ish, I probably will have to sit this one out and count my pennies for Wave R3 in Cherry profile ;D

I reckon the reason why you are havving issues with copper is probably due to its heat soak characteristics. You are probably experiencing some thermal distortion of the workpiece. Copper conducts heat very well but it's got a relatively low specific heat capacity, meaning that while it's excellent at conducting heat away from the heatsource (machining face), it also doesn't take much energy to raise the temperature of the whole piece. Tool steel and even high speed steel tools and bits have reduced performance at higher temperatures. Add that to the thermal distortion and expansion mismatch between the tool and the workpiece, and that means you will get rather inconsistent results without active cooling. I'd imagine giving it a rest between passes or running a coolant through the piece would help with machining (the latter suggestion is obviously more relevant if you're using a CNC mill ;D)
Will the big padded case be included? :p
Here are a photos of the first prototype :) New prototype is coming in next week.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/qUiUCbT.jpg)

Sorry to be slow replying, I missed this at first.
I was using cooling. I suspect I my speed on the lathe was too slow on the second attempt (I think I corrected in the wrong direction), and then I ran out of stock, which ended the experiment.
In general, though, I'm pretty sure the problem was inexperienced operator on janky old machine.
Working on fixing the first. Fixing the second is going to have to wait until I'm not living in a second-floor residential walk-up. (Actually, I'm considering going for a mini-mill that wouldn't collapse the floor, but I want to actually run it before dropping that much money on a tool unrelated to my day job, so am working on that.)
Thanks for the tips!

Okay guys, another update!Looks so good, wish I could afford one :(
The second prototype/sample is almost completed, they have finished the top aluminium half (got space grey this time), they still have to make the base. They have already made a few bases, but I wasn't happy with the color - so I'm changing it to just standard white nylon as it's made from a better supplier and is typically much better quality.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Kr14Iop.jpg)
And news from Machine Industries is that the PCB is all working, just have to fix up a pin error for the LEDs then I'll get those put into production!
All coming together now :)

Okay guys, another update!Looks so good, wish I could afford one :(
The second prototype/sample is almost completed, they have finished the top aluminium half (got space grey this time), they still have to make the base. They have already made a few bases, but I wasn't happy with the color - so I'm changing it to just standard white nylon as it's made from a better supplier and is typically much better quality.

And news from Machine Industries is that the PCB is all working, just have to fix up a pin error for the LEDs then I'll get those put into production!

Now I'm really glad I got a few extra Wave cap in your last GB, they will go perfectly with this. I'm just gonna pretend that it was all planned all along :p
UPDATE:PCB's are now in production - I expect these to come in next week :D
Stainless Steel screws have been ordered - they're going to be slotted screws. I wanted to use something A E S T H E T I C like TORX security screws or pentalobe screws, but I figured that these will need to be assembled/disassembled for soldering switches etc. But you can always replace them with some nice hex/TORX screws yourself if you want to change them up a bit :)
The latest revision of the prototype also has a through hole in the base for pressing the reset button for programming.
hoping the latest prototype comes in this week :)

Robertson screws all the way, because Canada!
UPDATE!
Sample from the new manufacturer is being shipped, this includes 5 parts for me to check out :D Including some different colors for the base.
Unfortunately, this upcoming Friday is a public holiday in Australia :( So, it should be here the following Monday.
Once I'm happy with the sample, production will begin for the remainder of the units!
Bare PCB's have also been completed and are set to be assembled once components arrive, this will be after next week (as it is National Holiday in Asia). Expecting those to arrive the week after next.
Cheers :)
Thanks Jchan! Thought that might excite people :DUPDATE!

HYPED. So excited to get this. Just realized all the components are included which makes me even more hyped.
Cool Man,,, How soon can we expect to get the real thing?
Kicking myself in the ass for not ordering one of these... :-[

Aww :( All good man, hopefully it'll reemerge in the future :)

Hopefully! Looks great can't wait to see all the different caps people throw on them!Likewise! I'm really excited to see how people dress this one up :D
VIDEO. EXCUSE THE VOICE.
This is cool -- the attention to detail is very impressive. It makes me wish more larger-sized cases and PCBs had this level of scrutiny (not that there aren't good products out there, it's just I've struggled to find an amazing 60% case).
Wow, keep the pics and videos coming!
Love it.
Enough teasing, when can we get these in our hands? :p
Thanks for sharing the video with us -- getting me EVEN MORE HYPED for the shipment notification :thumb: Nice work!
Wow the refinements you made really shine through in the video. :thumb: Can't wait for it to show up on my doorstep!!
Really sorry for the long wait with this project, it would have been shipped a lot earlier, but with the change of PCB, the new manufacturer and design changes really set everything back.
All of this was necessary to make sure that you guys will end up a much more polished and refined product!
Good news is that they are all going along well in production! Here is a crappy photo from the manufacturer :P Ready to go off to further processing!
Stacks of fluffy metal pillows. :p
Can't wait, Rama!

It makes me happy that even your PCBs look sharp. Not sure why these took so long to make, I think they had to source some of the components.
I told you that virgin's toe clippings have been scarce lately. Using the regular kind is totally fine, but you held out for the premium kind. I'm just surprised they had enough Heckler's Ennui on hand.
Love the design, we need one of these with an arrow key cluster and maybe an extra 1 or 2 buttons most.

Awesome, us gamers with 60% boards thank you, for almost everything I love my 60% but for those few games that need arrows and wasd it's such a pain to have function layer arrows. I have tried using my Realforce 23U but it's just not the same as a proper arrow cluster. The M4-A case design is almost perfect for something like this too.
Been loving your designs generally, keep up the awesome work! We wish you had unlimited time and money to work on these things too ;)
RAMA is so good, even his PCB test rigs are beautiful.
Thanks for the update!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeyeee
Sorry to hear that the mfg didn't pre-load the software. Hope it doesn't take you too long to fix. Exciting to see the progress on these.Yeah kind of annoying, paid for the programming too >___< Oh well, at least the firmware flashes onto the board pretty quickly. Should be a relatively painless process :E
Nice catch, as always Rama -- we are in goood hands.
Hey Rama what is the expected timeline for these? Are they going to arrive at roughly the same time as the Stainless Steel caps? If yes you could combine them and save on some postage fees ;D
How could they just forget to flash the firmware? :-X
Since we have to supply our own Cherry switches, are there different types? I mean in the # of pins to the board. 4 ? 2? I just want to be certain on what I should order. Thank you.You would be best going with PCB mounted switches as there isn't a plate to hold/stabilize the keys.

When I first read it I thought, analog stick awesome that will be cool, but after thinking about it a bit more there might not ever be much need to use something like that in this context, I'm guessing most of us who want it have a controller of some kind. It might be nicer to keep this quite minimal with just an extra button or two, keeping with your designs unless you gonna go wireless then an analog with two extra buttons and the arrow cluster could be interesting :) but that's just my opinion :thumb:

Hey all,
everything is still being packaged, apologies it's taking so long :( A lot going on in my life right now :(
There's a lot of different components involved with this product, and I just want it to be right for when you guys get it.
Time really adds up when all these separate processes are involved, but I think it'll make a big difference for when you get it!
Luck-fully I have my very supportive girlfriend helping out with the packaging!
Did 1/3 of the PCBs today! Here's a video:

Guys... super annoying news. Eugh.
Went to the post office today, packages are too thick :-[ :'( :'( :'(
Will be delayed another day, will have to repackage all of them :'( So sorry everyone again from the delay.
With the way they are packaged now, it would cost an exorbitant amount of money to ship all of them this way. So will be repackaging them tonight and shipping USA orders tomorrow.
I've already lost too much money with this sale :/
Once again, apologies all ierjgeorigjreerger

I'm not sure, they are actually manufacturing the M10 - so they are putting in a lot of work to make it a reality. We've been working closely together to achieve a result I'm happy with :)

Wow, awesome dude! So happy that people are starting to receive them - enjoy it man :D Gotta see some caps/switches on there!
I started to play around with the file for the M4A and saw that the first two layers (0,1) are configured. Question is that both layers use the M1 to select the first layer, can you explain how this works? I see 0-10 layers but only 6 different commands (M1-M6 and T1-T6) to access the layers. Surely if there were 11 layers in total then there should also be the same amount of commands to select all layers? Apologies in advance if I am wrong based on the 15 seconds of thought I gave this, or if this is due to the version number for the software :p

Other info on the sale, ugh hahah I'm not 100% sure myself, pretty sure all the sets will be 1 offs and there will be very few, like 5-10 sets, and atm I'm planning to only post the sale form here, so only people who are actively following happenings with the m4 will be able to buy them. Don't want people buying them who don't have an M4.
I received my grey M4-A in the UK yesterday. I've posted a short build log (http://imgur.com/a/0lGGz).
The final build I came up with is Gateron black, purple/pink LEDs, and Skeletor caps.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/R9D8VaS.jpg)
I discovered a few things about it that I really like so far. The plastic used on the base is slightly transparent, so if you use in-switch LEDs you can see the light underneath the case. It looks very cool on a dark desk.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/8KutITE.jpg)
Also, the cut out for the USB port is very nicely done -- it's neat and the USB connector fits snugly. It feels like it won't break when plugging it in. The switches fit through the case holes extremely well, and again the fit is snug so they don't move about when you're building the thing.
My case, base, and PCB had no visible blemishes, I'm very impressed with the overall quality. This has made me forgo any other group buys for RAMA's upcoming Key Clack GB and the Massdrop M10-A!

WOW!! Legend!!
Thanks so much for the build log, that photos are awesome (gonna share it on my Facebook page). Really really loving the pink LED's with the underglow - that looks sweet :D
Also, the next version of the configurator will have much greater LED control, so you'll be able to set it from the configurator itself :)

Nice, thanks!
I was hoping the configurator would get LED control, I forgot to ask that because just getting them to turn on confused me. I did it by assigning the LED on to one of the switches. The current firmware seems to keep the LED on even after rebooting, so you can patch to enable, then patch to reuse the key for something else.

For right now...yes. Volume - / +, F12 (for screenshots while playing games), and the key on the right toggles the led's. Of course functions will change over time. Also, I guess I can just add layers as I need to.
Put the M4-A together! It's a really beautiful little macropad.

I finally got around to configuring this little guy today.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/OClYIbA.jpg)
It only took me a year... ::)
I gotta say, it's pretty rad. Hoping to find a use for it in Star Citizen. I initially had some trouble getting it to be recognized in the Configurator, but I just needed to load a driver from Atmel. Good to go!
