Title: Paypal Alternatives
Post by: metalliqaz on Mon, 21 January 2013, 17:08:36
Was reading an article (http://news.slashdot.org/story/13/01/21/212237/paypal-preparing-to-address-frozen-funds-policy) about Paypal today and this reminded me of an issue that I've followed for many years now.  Paypal is Evil™.  Unfortunately it is also the de facto standard on Geekhack.  Wouldn't it be nice if we could agree on an alternative?

Possibilities:
Google Marketplace/Wallet
Amazon Payments

And from searching the web...
17 paypal alternatives (http://www.webdistortion.com/2010/07/28/paypal-alternatives-e-commerce/)
5 alternatives to paypal (http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/12/5-alternatives-to-paypal/)
5 paypal alternatives (http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2008/fsb/0802/gallery.paypal_alternatives.fsb/)
3 best international paypal alternatives (http://www.netchunks.com/3-best-international-paypal-alternatives/)
top 10 best paypal alternatives (http://www.techatlast.com/paypal-alternatives)

So does anyone have any recommendations?

I strictly use Amazon Payments when selling. There's really no reason not to. Zero fees + Buyer protection = Win

Without doubt Paypal has its limits and problems but it's de facto the standard pretty much worldwide except the far east, so this is the major plus. Keep in mind that for example here in Italy we don't have the Google Wallet, nobody supports it (except in Milan where they are experimenting it), and even less the Amazon Payments.
it's pretty useless to have something better if it's not an usable standard

You have multiple choices when it comes to alternatives. Google checkout, Alertpay, 2CO, Moneybookers and even opening up a payment processing account with someone like authorize.net and a merchant account. It will depend upon what your needs are but Alertpay seems to be the all around great choice.
